This is the DLV 2005 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg@geekbabe.com)

Various plans and items:
For those who noticed, :) there was no Org mailing last week.
. . . . .
Leah's e-mail is bouncing. If anybody is in contact with her, please
have her give us a working e-mail address. Thanks.
. . . . .
A note from Yvonne states that a digital proof of the proposed pin will
be coming Real Soon Now. Film at 11. :) We shiver with antici ...
. . . . .
Images: A reminder. We can't receive or distribute images or any type of
file attachment in this list. If there's something that you think the
DLV audience would like, the best thing to do is to post a link to the
image in the DLV Discussion Forum.
As a corollary, if you ever receive anything which appears to come from
any dlv*@geekbabe.com address which contains any file attachment or
embedded graphic image, it's most certainly a forgery and should be
deleted. Nothing from DLV should ever have a "paper clip" on it.
. . . . .
SO's gathering(s). Let's not let this one drop, please. Lee, Sandi,
others? Please be thinking of any SO-specific activities you might
like to have, and write in a brief note to the group here. I know
we're still 6 months out, but this is one of the items we should
be thinking of.
I think the big thing is to get things like this planned in advance, on
the schedule, and announced in the mailings. This gets the activities
planted in the minds of those who want to do them.
. . . . .
Another item we don't want to let drop is our final Saturday evening
activity lineup.
It appears almost certain that Showgirls Of Magic will not be playing at
the San Remo that weekend. It may move to another venue, but we do need
to be thinking of alternate activities for that evening. We definitely
want to avoid a repeat of the fizzle-out ending we had in 2004.

Bars:
I am raising the gavel and shouting "going once" on the mainstream
and/or upscale bar issue.
Since there's been essentially no commentary in favor of the mainstream
and/or upscale shift issue after bringing it to the table multiple
times, I can only assume that it is no longer the priority it once
appeared to be. Is it?
If this is not the case, please let it be known ... now.
So, if you are a member of the "more mainstream and more upscale"
contingent, and you are willing to do some brainwork and some legwork
in order to see this type of venue used by DLV, please speak up.
. . . . .
There are a lot of things happening bar-wise, and it looks like we will
have many many options for our DLV 2005 bar activities.
There's an ever-growing list of places that either have opened or will
open Real Soon Now. As has been stated, some of them are just the same
old places with new names and (maybe) new paint, but others are new in
theme and in atmosphere. Some of these appear to invite TG business.
Even if only a few of these actually materialize, we're gonna have far
more available bars that we have timeslots for them.
The good thing is that this coming year, we can afford to be choosy,
very choosy, when deciding on our bar venues.
I know our schedule will be in a state of flux for some time, but 3
items in particular have my attention as being major bar activities.
1. Welcome Celebration on Sunday.
2. Maximum turnout get-together, Eating Out Night, Wednesday.
3. Annual Mixer on Friday.
IMAO, these have to be in venues which are comfortable to all, and that
includes no restroom issues.
We also have a daily happy hour on the schedule, and we'll have many
options for this.
. . . . .
I would like to ask those of you who are local, and those who do get
to Las Vegas, to visit some of these new places such as Krave, the
new-Cobalt, new-Icon, new-Tramps, etc., and let us know if you think it
would be suitable for DLV activities, large or small. I understand that
Krave is now open. I also understand that ground has broken for the
Celebrities club downtown.
I'm gonna try like heck to get into Las Vegas for the Scorps/Tesla
concert next month at the Aladdin, and if I can make it I'll most
definitely be checking some of these new places out.
We had a positive report on Zodies a couple weeks ago, and a followup
report below which gives more details and discusses limitations. These
are the kind of things we need.
. . . . .
I can envision a good mix of old favorites, new GLBT venues, and yes,
some mainstream bars/clubs for our DLV 2005 bar activities. If that
third category is to happen, we do need some suggestions and some
legwork ... soon.
Comments? Reports?

Zodies report:

Thanks for the report, Nora.
I see one big positive factor, that being food service, and two negative
factors, size and location.
The size most likely precludes the use of this for any of the major bar
activities for the whole group.
Having food service is a big plus for any bar, with regard to using it
for a DLV activity or for a suggestion to go on one's own. I know that
many of our people are still a bit shy about ordering from a menu at a
restaurant, and a known-friendly place that serves food will certainly
get business.
Zodies may be an option for HH/dinner for Eating Out Night, and also
maybe for a "safe" alternative opposite some kind of a (more) mainstream
bar activity or a local activity opposite NSD II.
It might also be good for a pre or post Rocky Horror thing, since that's
in the same general area, assuming they are still performing in the same
place, that is. (I assume they will allow nuns in there.) :)

Golf plans:
Mindy writes:

Hafa Adai! :)

>still open for discussion is the date (wed or thurs) and the format
>(storke or scramble).. need to get discussion started soon so i can do
>the bookings..
Yes, golfers in particular, and those who may be planning things that
happen opposite or before/after or the night before golf, this is the
time to work these details out.
Hopefully those on the list here who are golfers will provide input,
but we can put a note in the general mailing (probably a combined
Sep-Oct-Nov one coming out on the 15th) and even get the golf list
started early if you want.
