Important Thursday evening changes:

This is being sent out early due to the breaking news that affects
the show on Thursday and the Limo Tour.

One very important unforseen issue has occurred.

Please read the note on the V show carefully, and if there are any
objections or second thoughts on the change, make them known NOW, as
we're planning a general announcement to go out in a special mailing
tomorrow.

Any objections or extenuating circumstances, please speak now or
forever hold ...

"V" show complications:

To make a long story short, the "V" show has lost their lease,
literally. They ("V") and Lord Of The Dance have been given their
walking papers as of the end of April.

If "V" is to re-open in Las Vegas, it will not happen until it is too
late to make a decision for DLV 2004.

David Saxe Productions has agreed to make us an equitable deal on the
new show Ovation, which is playing at the Desert Passage Theater over at
the Aladdin. This is a newer contemporary Las Vegas variety show which
was co-founded by David Saxe and the people who produce Legends In
Concert.

Since time is short, and since DS has agreed to make us a deal to in
essence transfer the reservations over to Ovation, I'm suggesting that
we go with the deal, allowing those who wish to bail to do so, of
course.

Unless somebody says "STOP", the following notice will go out as a
special mailing tomorrow. This will let both those who have already
made plans to attend and those who would like to attend to have
time to make a decision, if they need to, and act upon it.

+This is a special mailing regarding an unforseen change which affects
+DLV's Thursday evening plans. Please read carefully and e-mail
+dlv@geekbabe.com if you have any questions or concerns.

+Aiko writes:

+Well, the coordination was going much too smoothly for everyone, so the
+Venetian has put a challenge in front of us. V is being produced only
+until April 30th, when it closes (at the Venetian). It will resurface,
+but when and where won't be announced until it's too late to make a
+decision in time for DLV.

+So, a replacement show has been selected, called Ovation. It is in the
+Aladdin Hotel. The Ovation Theater holds about 320 people and the show
+is in the same variety category as "V". The show starts at 7:00pm
+instead of 6:00pm.

+The Limo Tour will be pushed back one hour, and the pick-up point will
+be changed to main entrance of the Aladdin Hotel.

+There are three options for Ovation. First, there is available a
+Premium package, which includes a dinner prior to the show. The dinner
+package starts at 5:30pm and costs $85., with front row seats included.
+(There is no discount available for this option.)

+Second option, VIP seating is available. Third option, General
+Admission is available.

+For those who have pre-paid for V, the good news is that the VIP and
+General Admission seats for Ovation are $10 less per seat than V.
+Those who pre-paid for the VIP section of V, will get a "rebate" of $10
+when I hand you your ticket. For those who pre-paid for General
+Admission, you will now get a VIP seat.

+For those who wish to pay for seats at DLV, we will still buy best
+available seating at the time of purchase, but at retail of $60 for VIP
+and $50 for General Admission. As before, to be with the DLV group,
+this must be prepaid by Tuesday of DLV week. Those not arriving by
+Wednesday should e-mail dlv@geekbabe.com for prepayment instructions.

+For those who have already prepaid for V and do not wish to change to
+Ovation, please e-mail dlv@geekbabe.com for refund instructions.

+Unfortunately, the closing of V at the Venetian was unforseen, and is
+still unannounced in the media. Luckily, we are still able to see a
+first-rate production show, with only a few minor changes in the
+schedule.

A few notes on this change ...

1. Unless ticket-holders opt otherwise, prepaid tickets for V will be
converted to equivalent tickets for Ovation. Ticket-holders who do not
want to attend the Ovation show can obtain a refund on prepaid tickets.

2. Other ticket purchase options remain in effect except the tickets
will be for Ovation instead of V.

3. All schedules will be adjusted to show 7:00pm as the show time,
replacing the previously-announced time.

4. Maps and driving directions will be appropriately adjusted.

This will also affect the start time of the limo tour, and, of
course, the starting location of the Limo Tour. Tootsye and Jamie, do
you see any issues or problems here. Please let us know ASAP if you
forsee any problems.

Although this will not lock people out of attending both Ovation and
the Pity Party, there will be overlap, and a warning will be added to
the sign-up screen.

Latest laundry:

Everybody, I think it would be a good idea of having a fallback plan
for Saturday evening in the event the Michael Cagle show does not
materialize. Even though Michael has assured us in good faith that
he will find a place, I think we do need to have a backup plan ready
to roll out just in case.

My only idea for a backup plan would be something along the line of
happy hour and dinner at the San Remo, followed by a farewell type of
thing, either at the San Remo bar or elsewhere.

Comments? Ideas?
. . . . .

Nora? Jenni? Do we want to announce a deadline or cutoff date for Big
Sister requests?

Diane? Do we want to announce same for roommate matching?
. . .

Mindy? High tea? Any details yet? I am showing 26 currently signed up
for it. Time is getting tight. We need to have location and price for
the LFM, which goes out a week from Monday.
. . .

Leah? Hidden Woman? Not to be pushy, but it's about time to defecate or
abdicate on this one. :) Again, we need to know one way or the other in
time for the LFM.
. . .

Has anybody informed Las Vegas Lounge that we will be invading their
facility on Tuesday the 4th? I know we have some regulars/occasionals on
the list here, so I'm asking any and all to please give them a heads
up.
. . .

Tootsye? Diane? We need to confirm the actual time that MCC services
start. Their web site says 10:00, or at least it did about a week ago.
The notes here say 10:30. Who knows for sure?

Thanks, gang! :)

ST Experience and lunch:

Michelle (NV) writes:

>As the hostess for the ST experience thing, i would naturally assume
>that the girls and so's attending would eat luch right there since
>Quarks bar is a significant part of the experience and they have great
>food! Let me know what you think.

This is really your decision, but some tentative plans have already
been made and we (the group here) needs to make a few decisions.

First, the history ...

Prior to you adopting the ST thing, it was decided to have lunch at the
Bellagio buffet on Wednesday, an activity which has normally followed
the air tours. When the air tours were scrapped, it was decided to keep
the Bellagio lunch on the calendar, and it was noted that this could
conveniently follow the ST thing.

If we're going to make a change, we're going to have to do this now, so
we can un-announce and re-announce things in time and make all of the
adjustments on schedules and such.

I would suggest that we have no more than two scheduled lunch activities
on any particular day, so we don't dilute the crowd any more than we
have to. We have Lunch With/out Ginger all weekdays, as you know. My
hunch is that if we announced a Quarks lunch, the Bellagio lunch would
have close to zero attendees if we left it on that day.

So, to you Michelle, and this is really up to you, do you want to
announce a lunch over at Quarks immediately following ST?

To everybody else, if Michelle does this, do we want to move the
Bellagio lunch to another day?

We do need to act on this now if we are going to do it.

Sign-up problems:

>Perhaps Sabrina got as frustrated as i did with all the conflicts that
>arent stated first and you can get 15 different conflicts in a row by
>choosing thre wrong things

Sabrina's case is that she failed to respond properly to the initial
validation request. Not even close. She did not even get close to the
activity selection process. I sent her a personal note. I don't know
of anything else we can do when people do not respond.

Now in your case ...

I'm sorry you had difficulty and frustration with the activity sign-up
process.

The activity sign-up process is not perfect, but with 100-some people
signing up, it would be impractical to do it manually.

I have added warnings to the screen about the various conflicting
activities. I kind of assumed that those signing up would have looked
over the schedule and would have decided on one option for each
timeslot.

What I am going to do this year at DLV is to seek out those who had
technical or ergonimic problems with the web registration or the web
activity sign-up and try to figure out what went on. It appears that
2-3% had some kind of problems, which is not excessive, but still is
significant.

Hard Rock headcount:

Deb writes:

>Do you any count as to the number of people that plan to attend the Hard
>Rock cafe dinner? I plan on seeing Peter there sometime this week to
>view the arrangements and would like a reasonable number for the people
>who will ne making the dinner.

As of this minute and second we have 62 signed up for it. With the
no-show factors we've seen over the past few years this would equate to
about 44.8 people actually showing up.

My guess is that the count will be very close to 50 at DLV time.

You can always get the current headcount on this or any other DLV
activity at the url:

http://www.geekbabe.com/annie/org04arc/dlvmaster.txt

Again, thanks for taking the HR thing on. I'm sure this one will be
quite successful. :)

Capacities and such:

Anya writes:

Probably so. 50 was my estimate regarding how many they can comfortably
absorb on a normal weekday without any formal "party room" reservation
or anything.

I also think of HM as being the most flexible of our dinner places with
regard to an accurate count (or rather lack of same) in advance.

>>Hard Rock filled on Tuesday afternoon. Deb? Ginger? is 50 the correct
>>capacity limit on this?

>Same as above, the HR should be able to feed whoever comes along. Hard
>Rock is not a very big place however, and there is no guarantee everyone
>can sit together.

It's my impression that we will have a somewhat hard limit on this.
We'll be off to the side in our reserved area. This will be their
equivalent of a "party room" reservation.

>>Surprisingly, the trip to Rhyolite filled quickly.

>Don't know if i can make rhyolite yet, but i am open to driving my own
>car.

I don't forsee anybody being turned away, but I do/did want a limit on
it, since I think with above 25 it would just be too many to handle with
such a trip.

>>Carluccio's will most likely fill this week sometime. Most of the
>>others still have some slack.

>Can't forsee a problem here, but being Carluccio's gives us a room,
>it's best to have a good count.

Yes, we'll be able to give them a good count, and, like last year, I
expect we will fill the back room and have a few spill out into the
bar area as well.
