Org List:

This is the DLV 2004 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg@geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.

Ongoing activity database of proposed and scheduled activities on line:
http://www.geekbabe.com/annie/org04arc/acts.html
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Motion carries:

Here's the results on our current motion:

Aye: 9
Nay: 5
Abstain: 5

Last vote was received Sunday afternoon and polls were closed Tuesday.
No late votes were received. One invalid vote was received, and would
not have influenced the outcome if it were clarified.

Raw votes are included at the end of this mailing.

Therefore, from now on, Mothers Day is off limits for DLV planning
and 2/3 majority is required to un-do (change more than 3 days) any
scheduled DLV timeframe.

Thanks to everybody who voted. I would now like to put the Mothers Day
issue totally behind us and move forward with the planning of DLV 2004.

Mindy's e-mail:

Mindy's e-mail (one address, anyway) is consistently bouncing. Could
those who are local please check with her to be sure she is indeed
getting our mail? If not, can you please get the best mail address for
her. Thanks.

Please also remind her that if she wants the Boardalk to be considered
as one of our suggested hotels, she (or somebody else) must nominate it
by next week on Wednesday.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Speaking of hotels ...:

... going three times! Any more nominations or discussions for or against
any of our nominated hotels for DLV 2004, the deadline is approaching.
Next week's mailing is your last chance to make your feelings known.

Nominated hotels so far are: (In order of nomination)

Sahara (multiple)
Comfort Inn (Gina)
Bellagio (Gina)
San Remo (multiple)
Stratosphere (Densie)

Of course. :)

I really don't see any reason to drop the bowling, except if you
personally want to do the boat trip instead, and in that case I'm sure
somebody else could easily take over the bowling thing.

Neither the bowling nor the boat trip will be such a magnet activity
that one will hurt attendance at the other. Yes, the boat trip is
probably the more general interest thing, but it is more expensive
and requires a longer drive. I'm sure there will be plenty of people
for both.

Personally, I believe that more options (multiple tracks) will increase
overall participation, which is a Good Thing<tm>.

I've had a report that Icon is now closed. Can somebody local please
confirm (or deny) this, as if it's actually closed I want to remove it
from the Big List. Thanks.

Policy document - going twice:

Yes, we have another vote coming up. If there's any more discussion on
the combined behavior/dress/restroom policy, please speak now. Call for
votes will be sent out shortly. Proposed policy is on line at:

http://www.drbbs.com/dmr/cpolicy.html

Please review it before you vote. Expect a CFV toward this weekend if
no more discussion comes in.

I'm personally in favor of it, and I would like to encourage everybody
to consider voting in favor of it. Yes, it's true that I tend to dislike
formality and needless authority, but I think the policy, the way
it's drawn up, does not invoke any sweeping changes or impose any
restrictions on the vast majority of the participants, who have always
dressed and behaved as was expected. The policy clarifies what is (and
what has always been) expected of our people.

Mothers day and voting:

Monica writes:

>It seems that there may be certain individuals who would love to
>incorporate a mothers day agenda, for those who might choose to attend.
>for those that can't or don't want to, So be it.

>Its so ironic that some choose to be girls but not women. and for those
>that have chosen to become women it might be a nice Mothers Day for
>them.

If you're thinking of some special activity to happen on Mothers Day,
it is possible if there is a demand for it, but would have to be an
unofficial option for those staying over, since DLV ends on Saturday.

It would really be up to those who would like to see it happen to make
it happen.
. . . . .

>Maybe I missed something along the way but the last time votes were
>cast there were more who voted to abstain than for or nay.

I view the abstentions as coming from those who might not see the issue
as that important to them personally, but have an interest and want to
go on record as participating in the decision.

I would much rather have an active abstention than to have somebody
just refuse to vote.

>I am not sure who all gets to vote ...

Our committee (the ORG group) is the group that does the work and makes
the decisions. Actually, most of the decisions are easy ones, decided by
a consensus. If there's no obvious consensus, we vote. Everybody gets
one vote.

> ... but It would seem that the planning
>committee should be able to decide the dates and then live with that
>decision.

We did just that. There was some disagreement on the "then live with
that decision" part, but I think it's obvious that the majority was in
favor of the agreed upon dates, and is in favor of living with them.

>I hope I am able to enjoy Diva this coming year and not worry about who
>voted for what and why.

Everybody will be able to enjoy DLV, and I'm sure there will be no hard
feelings. Our people are not the grudge-carrying type at all. It's ok to
agree to disagree, as long as we respect everybody and respect their
opinion as being valid from their point of view.
