High tea and dates:

Thanks for the info. High tea planners, please take note, since if
nobody officially offers high tea when you want to plan it, this may be
an option.

Well, I was a math minor in undergrad, but I think what you're thinking
of will not require any really spooky math. :)

I think if we're gonna consider anything like this, it has to be in the
future, and not apply (perhaps retroactively) to any issues we now have
on the floor.
I see a couple possible ideas along this line, such as giving each ORG
member one vote for each year they have attended, or one vote for each
nontrivial activity they have sponsored, etc.
One principle this reinforces is that those who do the work are the ones
who make the decisions. I'm very strong in my feelings about that being
the way it is.
I always want to see us open to comments and suggestions from the
Teeming Millions, but afaic, those who have stepped forward to volunteer
to work on the project should be the ones calling the shots.
What I want to see for the immediate issues is to get them settled with
the minimum amount of bitching and the minimum amount of hurt feelings.
The best way I know to do this which is fair to all, is to use the
process we've always used when we could not decide by consensus, and
that is to vote.
>You may not find this viable but I really hate to see the long term
>supporters not being able to attend simply due to the dates which could
>be either side of the convention apparantly.
I think it's a possibility for the future, but again, I don't want to
be changing any rules in the middle of the game, so to speak.
>I am also thinking that
>perhaps some of the votes for the earlier time period were simply cast

I'm sure this is true in some cases. DLV has been creeping forward on
the calendar a few days each year, and yes, having it in the middle of
May may seem like a longer time away for some.
>If there is another vote can we maybe ask that only those affected one
>way or the other cast a vote? In other words, don't vote for the sake
>of voting if the time period really doesn't matter to you.
"ABSTAIN" is always an option. Those who really don't care are free to
vote this way if they wish.
However, the motion we have on the floor right now affects everybody
that will be planning DLV, as it is a motion to extend the timeframe. If
the motion carries, it will involve some rescheduling of some activites
and more of a demand for the number and scope of activities.
>I may have missed a few things hurrying through the mail so if all of
>this is finalized then just disregard it.
Nothing is final until it's final. :)
>I just feel for Diva, as well as other groups I have belonged to, that

>know me, I would not be one of the five by the way.
>Just my humble opinion but if anyone thinks there is any value to it
>then perhaps we can reconsider the dates.
Right now the motion is to extend and not to reconsider. When this
motion carries or fails, if anybody is still not happy with the dates,
he or she can enter a motion to reschedule ... rinse, repeat. :)
>Glad to be back and lookng forward to this year's party.
I'm looking forward to it too. I think we can have a win-win thing here
if we all work together and perhaps bend a little of necessary.

Thanks. I will get this on our big list of merchant and vendors
immediately. It's on line at:
http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/vendors/
I'll also include your note in our next general mailing. This normally
comes out at the beginning of each month, but the next one may be
delayed a few days due to a possible extension of our schedule for next
year.
We have very good relationships with many firms in the area, and we
do wish to support those who support our community.

I'm very familiar with Bare Essentials. We've had our people shop there
almost since day one.
>Our specialty is Corsets, Girdles, and Waist Cinchers. We also carry
>Club Wear, Gothic Romantic Clothing, shoes and boots.
And much of this would be of interest to many of our people.
>We would love to work something out, offer a door prize for your show
>and even offer any of the Diva's a special discount on the purchases
>made during the shopping days.
There are many options. We've done some things with other merchants,
such as:
1. Designate a particular afternoon as DLV Open House and offer a token
discount to get our people to drop by. Door prizes would work well here.
2. Offer a blanket discount to our people during DLV (currently May 3-8
2004 but an extension is under consideration) and we'll announce this in
the "discounts and promotions" section of our final mailing to the
attendees.
3. We do have one shopping excursion scheduled already (new outlet mall)
but we could possibly do another, where we could hit such things in your
area, such as you, BE, and perhaps FISM on one trip.
>I would even volunteer to do a performance at the show if you ever have
>GG's do that. I will be performing at Dressed to Thrill (the Versatile
>Fashions Convention) which is also coming in mid May and will do all I
>can to help support and promote your efforts including announcing your
>event to my own Events Group.
We don't have our own show. We're a vacation, not a convention, and
quite different from most of the other t* community events. Some of our
people have performed, however, at the shows at Flex and Las Vegas
Lounge.
What you could possibly do to help is display a small (11x17) poster
about our event in your shop. Other merchants in the area have done this
as well, and it does help us. These will be sent out just after the
first of the year. Please let me know if you're willing to do this.
