Org List:
This is the DLV 2004 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg@geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.
Ongoing activity database of proposed and scheduled activities on line:
http://www.geekbabe.com/annie/org04arc/acts.html
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
DLV timeframe:
Shortly after the mailing next week we will have a call for votes for
the DLV 2004 timeframe. The two nominated options are:
A. Monday, May 3 thru Saturday, May 8, with a possible extension of one
day either way.
B. Monday, May 17 thru Saturday, May 22, with a possible extension of one
day either way.
If there's any more discussion of the timeframe, this is the time to get
it in.
For those of you who are new, this is how this works. Everybody on this
list is eligible to vote, and submits their vote by replying to the
special "call for votes" mailing.
Polls remain open until 24 hours elapse with no further votes being
received. At that point the vote is final and polls are closed. Results
will be reported both as totals and as raw votes with semi-obfuscated
Message-ID: lines.
Results will then be announced to the general list in the July-August
mailing, allowing a one-month call for comments, and considered final
at the end of August if there are no significant objections.
So, if there's any more disussion about the timeframe, there is one last
list cycle to get it in prior to the vote.

Volunteering for High Tea:

Thanks, Jennifer. Now if other will follow your lead we'll have it made.

It's kinda been traditional to do a show before the limo tour, but
there's nothing that says High Tea could not be there in place of the
show.

Ok, we don't yet have High Tea on the schedule, so I'll get it on there
with a weekday or weekend designation.

True, and it could fit as an optional activity on either end of DLV.
There's another idea in this mailing for a weekday afternoon High Tea.

The more I think about this one, the more I think it's best to make
the decision in real time depending on how many show up, what their
comfort level is, etc.

It's interesting, even for those who are not hardcore trekkies. Let's
see how many catch the obvious blooper toward the end. :)

They didn't refuse to take your money, did they?
Seriously, Belz is a great place to shop, and I've heard very few
complaints about any of the Belz shops at all.
One thing they tell me (the ubiquitous "they") is that there will be a
Maidenform shop at the new outlet mall near downtown, so maybe your
favorite employees will have transferred there. :)

>Limo tour / Alternatives.

True. When the timeframe is tentatively decided upon later this month,
then we can start plugging the proposed/committed activities in and
see what works best. We'll still have the better part of the year to
mix, match, and shuffle things around as we need.
>In my opinion a house party (irrespective of theme) and the limo tour

I do admit to being a bit skeptical myself, but I do want to hear what
they have to say and what they have to offer.

Actually, this guy (MHRIP) was not a pointy-haired type. He just wanted
to know how much of a dent I was going to put into his budget whenever I
walked thru the door. :) :) :)

Maybe that means they have restrooms open 24 * 7. :) :) :)

If anybody has any ideas on where to get a better group shot, please
speak up. Remember that in all practicality it has to be someplace
where the majority of our people already are -- and that kinda limits
the choices -- unless somebody can think up some kind of incentive to
get people to one particular place at a particular time just to pose.
OTOH, maybe the large group photos are something that worked during
the "mid years" of DLV, but may be impractical now that we've grown
even more.

Some rambling thoughts....
>>A. Monday, May 3 thru Saturday, May 8, with a possible extension of one

>>B. Monday, May 17 thru Saturday, May 22, with a possible extension of one
>>day either way.
>Days of the week. Monday start? I guess I'm wondering why start on a
>Monday when most people will probably be coming in on the Saturday or
>Sunday anyway and staying for the week...unless of course they they
>just come for the final weekend stuff????
I was the one who suggested the Monday start, to keep the 6 day length
and to end with a big bang on Saturday.
>ANNIE: What was the stats for the stay duration etc this year? How many
>arrived when and for how long?
Of the survey respondents, 29 arrived Monday or earlier, 13 arrived on
Tuesday, 8 arrived Wednesday, 6 arrived Thursday, only 2 reported
arriving Friday, no respondents reported arriving Saturday or Sunday.
As for departure, 25 departed the following Monday or later, 16 departed
on Sunday, 5 departed Saturday, 7 departed Friday, one on Thursday and 2
on Wednesday.
Average length of stay was 4.948 days.
Vast majority of respondents (50) said the length was just right.
>Maybe the answer is Sunday to Saturday and do the Hi Tea on the opening
>Sunday????? Just a thought.
Definitely an option. Slow start instead of a slow wind-down. I think
this is more of a possibility should the group vote for the earlier
timefreme.
>It might mean we have to look at some more activities for Monday and
>Tuesday daytime on the other hand the number there are probably going
>to be lower than later in the week.
<brokenrecord>
Yes, we definitely need more activities, particularly daytime ones, if
we are going to extend. As of this time I don't see volunteers beating
down the door volunteering to plan more activities.
</brokenrecord>
>As for the dates, to be honest neither are that good for me next year.

>(I'm from NZ if you didn't know already).
I kinda figured that one out in 1999. :)
You do type with an accent, but most Merkins probably assume you either
come from the UK or Australia. :)
>The earlier week would be better IMHO simply due to the slightly cooler
>weather but equally we have a bit of an issue with Mothers Day on the

>this.
>End of rambling thoughts....
Thanks, Michelle.
