Org List:

This is the DLV 2004 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg@geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.

DLV dates:

In about three weeks we'll have our call for votes for the dates of DLV
2004. The two timeframes we've discussed are:

A. Monday, May 3 thru Saturday, May 8, with a possible extension of one
day either way.

B. Monday, May 17 thru Saturday, May 22, with a possible extension of one
day either way.

We've had comments for and against both timeframes. If there's any
further comments and/or discussion about the dates, please get that in,
as we have only two list cycles until the vote will be taken.

A related issue is that of the Sunday extension. I don't see that it's
necessary to have this question answered by the time our dates are
announced as final (September 1), but it does need to be answered by the
time people actually start making travel plans, which is around the
holidays.

My concern about extending is that if we do so, we be absolutely certain
that we have enough volunteers to coordinate enough quality activities,
not only for that extra day, but for the entire DLV period.

(And no, I don't want to see those who have already volunteered to do
multiple things to volunteer to do more for the sake of extending.)

If everybody on this list (including you) would simply go on record for
coordinating or assisting with one nontrivial activity, we would have
far more activities than we do timeslots.

Last note on this item, High Tea fans will be happy to note (below) that
the Monday-Saturday timeframe may not lock this activity out.

Big Sis, High Tea, etc.:

Jennifer writes:

Thanks, Jennifer.

For those listening in, Nora and Jennifer have agreed to share this
duty. Please join me in thanking them.

Could you please take a look at our vendor list at:

and make an entry for them if they are not already listed.

It looks like there will be an opportunity for the High Tea even if
we don't extend to Sunday. See Leah's note below.

Monique is the one who handles the check-in. If she's listening in and
needs an extra hand ...

Tea, tipping, and 'tography:

Leah writes:

If you don't mind checking this, I'm sure this would be appreciated, as
this would allow it to be placed most any afternoon on the schedule. We
do typically have a shortage of daytime activities, and there has been a
demand for more dress-up daytime things in the past.

>That photographer's name sounds familiar to me..... I may have come

I don't think she has a web page. I asked her if she had any samples
on line and she said something to the effect that she would like to
have some at some time.

It's my impression that she is an amateur who wants to build up her
skills in this area.

The back room at Goodtimes might be an option for this. They don't
usually use this on Friday and I don't see them objecting to something
like this.

I don't know about the open houses. Those can be such a madhouse.

I'm sure you're thinking of a different person. The Suzy who wants to
do this stated she was not a pro and did not have samples on line.

>As for Leona, I am sure that even if she decides not to re-open a full
>scale operation here that she will certainly be back again in a suite

That's good. I guess we can assume she will have a suite at the Sahara
or comparable hotel. I'll get this on the proposed activity list.

Yes, to be nonpreferential, I'll also put a GB Open House on the list
too. :)

We used to have a tipping section in the LFM until a couple years ago,
but that was sacrificed, along with various other things, to keep the
volume of it down. We could put it, or a rewritten version back in.
The original did not include anything on drag shows.

Maybe we need to put the unwritten rules into writing, since I'm very
sure quite a few of our newer people are unfamiliar with the etiquette
of the drag shows.

Ethnic theme activity:

>Mark me down in the yeah column!

Ok, but which "yeah" column? :)

We have two of them.

First is the "yeah, I want it to happen" column, and second is the
"yeah, I volunteer to coordinate (or help with) column." (>>HINT<<) :)
:) :)

>Thanks Aiko for the suggestion. I can't wait to design (or shop for) my

>From this and other comments, it looks like this idea does have some

All it takes now is for one or more to adopt it and make it happen.

Big Sister Coordinator:

Nora Writes:

Thanks again, Nora. For those listening in, both Jennifer and Nora will
be jointly handling the Big Sister program for DLV 2004.

Actually, what I'm planning to do is forward all Big Sister related
material to both of you, and let you decide how to divide up the job
and handle the various aspects of the program. :)

All of the DLV photos are amateur shots, taken with widely varying
equipment, lighting, skill, and degree of sobriety. :)

Usually, however, we've assembled a collection of photos that most
people are happy with.

We've also had some difficulty in the later years getting people
assembled, posed, and sitting/standing still for the larger group shots.

>I agree that finding a place to set up a backdrop and lighting would be

Leah has some ideas on this above (or below) which may work.

Yes, see notes above (or below) on this.
. . . . .

>Theme nights are always fun. I thought we already had one, Red shoe

We did. Red Shoe Night in 2003 and Blonde Hair Night in 2002.

>theme. I have no poodle skirts. What does a "European American" wear as

Uh, you could go for the Eurotrash look. :) :) :) {ducking and running}

Seriously, I think the intent was to have this be the primary theme of a
social get-together, as opposed to just an optional add-on to something
else.

>We could almost call "Slut night" a theme. There are lots of options.

Oh yes, definitely a theme activity. :) I think the people who have
the ethnic theme night in mind want it to be separate from the Trash
N Flash party, and not concurrent with it on the schedule.

>I seems to me that there were abot 15 at the Tea. Not all of them were

It looks like this may be possible on a day other than Sunday, according
to Leah's note in this mailing.

Theme, Church and High Tea

Tootsye writes:

I thought we did take some photos of all the blondes that evening, but
for some strange reason I can't think of anything that happened that
night. :)

It looks like this one is safe. See Leah's note, since it tells about
one that's ongoing each day.

>This event satisfys my desire to dress a little more elegantly than is

MCC (or other services) could be an option for those coming early or
staying late, even if they are not part of the "official" (if there
is such a thing) DLV schedule.

>To me, the final Sundays of Diva 02 and 03 have been sort of my

>To me the time of Monday through Sunday is just right!

>There are so many wonderful people to meet and visit with and some many
>interesting things to do with them, that it just can't be shorter!

Not to sound like a stuck CD, but again, I'm not opposed to extending,
I just want to be sure we have an adequate slate of activities without
overloading our volunteers.

We do need to draw the line somewhere, and I do suggest that we don't
consider any more of an extension than one day for 2004, and that being
if and only if we have the volunteer commitment to plan and implement
activities.

There seem to be two different philosophies of ending DLV. One is the
big bang, ending on an uptick on Saturday night, and the other is as
you say, ending with a gentle wind-down on Sunday.

Well, my experience in Pahrump is limited. I've had maybe 15 minutes
exposure to it total. I don't know, and we've had two quite contrasting
opinions here.

>The best way is to dress and conduct oneself according to the
>situation, and there should be no problems.

Whether or not we stop in Pahrump, this is a very good point to
remember.

If people want to go mainstream, that means mainstream dress and
mainstream behavior ... what is usual and customary for other women of
the same age, size, and height, and ladylike comportment and deportment.

>I am sure the Pahrump Nugget or Terribles would be more than happy to
>serve us.

What might be a good idea for this one is to hold off on any decision
on where to eat until trip time, and give the people the choice in
real time, whether to grab breakfast before leaving Las Vegas or
to stop in Pahrump on the way.

>I can't foresee any problems at the Walmart either.

Yeah, but that's an awful long way to drive to go to Walmart. :) :)
