Updated Laundry list:

Thanks to those who jumped right in and volunteered to take up the slack
from Mindy's unfortunate setback. You are a very super group of people,
but you knew that already, I'm sure. :)

In general, things are looking good, and it looks like we will have our
largest and most active turnout ever.

It's now just over 2 months to DLV. Time to start filling in the
details, both activity wise and logistics wise.

I'm starting to put together the final DLV documents, and yes, there are
some items that need to be firmed up shortly.

Following is the latest iteration of yet another laundry list of various
hot items, loose ends, and unanswered questions.

1. We need a volunteer to adopt the English High Tea on Sunday and do
the necessary legwork to make it happen. Refer to Mindy's note sent a
few days ago.

Mindy, you might send in a brief note outlining what a volunteer has to
do to coordinate this, if you would please.

2. Hidden Woman package receiving. I know some of you are in contact
with Leona and company. Could one of you please check on this and
confirm yes or no? Otherwise their competitor is gonna "steal the
thunder" on this one.

3. Shuttle van. I agree with Monique's comments below. I propose that
unless we have two solid volunteers to coordinate this by two weeks from
today (that's Feb 26), we consider this a dead item for DLV 2003 and
announce it as "not happening". See opinion below.

Going three times?

4. Friday afternoon activity for those not doing golf. Ideas?

5. Side trip on Sunday. Although I like the idea of a Rhyolite
expedition, I think that would be a bit long for the day and the
circumstances. To make it back comfortably before the Farewell
Celebration, we would have to leave before most of our people will
rise that day. Instead, how about something where we go up to Mt.
Charleston and go back via the loop in Red Rock Canyon?

Yes, personally I would love to do Rhyolite, but I have a feeling
our turnout would be much better on a shorter trip.

Comments?

6. SO's gathering. Diane, Mindy? Any decision on day/time yet? We have
had some feedback on this, finally.

7. Bowling. Tony, is this still a go? Day/time?

8. Kate. Rendezvous location for Primm Valley Mall on Wednesday? Will
our semi-customary rendezvous point of the rear Sahara surface parking
lot be ok, or do you want someplace else? Also what time?

9. Religious services. {somebody} was gonna look into this. I do have
this on the FAQ, so it's possible that some people think this is
happening. We do have do defecate or abdicate on this one. If somebody
could even point me in the right direction of a listing, this would
probably be ok.

Shuttle, badges, limo, garden:

Monique writes:

Shuttle:

>Unless their is an overwhelming desire to have a shuttle service, and
>at least two DLV organizers are willing to go out and about their way
>to do this, my personal view is that we do not do the shuttle service.

I tend to agree.

I am seeing none of the DLV organizers here jumping up and down waving
their hands in the air and begging to do this one.

Even though we've received a handful of comments from the masses, most
of them positive, I am not hearing an overwhelming mandate from the
Teeming Millions for such a service.

>We've state from the get-go, that transportation to and from hotels to
>the DLV venues are at one's own. IMHO, in the past 2 years I've been at
>DLV, we've not lost that many that wanted to go to a venue due to the
>lack of transportation. Taxis are relatively an inexpensive mode of
>transportation and are readily available. I did alot of my transport to
>and from DLV'02 venues via taxi and I was quite pleased with the quality
>and $'s for the service.

Taxis are indeed an option, and although most of us on the list here are
comfortable just going up to the doorman for one or joining the taxi
line, a significant number of our people are (still) too shy to do so.

>I wish to remind all DLV attendees that wish to drive or rent a car,
>that if you intend to indulge and party, the DUI laws are strict in
>Vegas (as they are here in Vegas as opposed to where I used to live in
>Nashville), so the best insurance is to spend a few extra $'s to take a
>taxi or ride with a designated driver.

Very good point. They are still doing those random sobriety checkpoints
from what I hear. (Ask me about getting stopped in one some years back.)
. . . . .

Badges:

>Jenna,

>Let's work together on this. I'm glad you are doing the badges. How to
>hand them out needs to work thru myself, you, and Tootsie, as well as
>Aiko and others that are collecting $'s for the Jubliee outing, the
>Limo tour, etc. I would suggest that Jenna, Tootsie, Aiko and myself
>coordinate how we do all of this over the next couple of weeks.

I think it would be great if everybody involved could work together
to provide a one-stop-shop for check-in and activity payment. Please
keep the Org group in the loop regarding any details.
. . . . .

Limos:

Non-smoking Limo and/or Non-Alcohol Limo:

>Girls, I have no problem with this, however, I need to know how many
>that want to do the limo tour want to have a non-smoking/non-alcohol
>limo. Annie, perhaps we can ask this question during the venue sign-up.
>But I would like to know.

I posted a request for feedback in the announcement list. Nothing has
come in WRT this yet.

Over the past few weeks one of my back-burner projects has been the
sign-up screen for activities. I added a smoke/no preference box and a
beverage selection checklist. If we decide to not have such a selection,
this is easy to comment out.

I did not add an alcohol/no preference box as of this time. However, it
is very quick to do so.

If anybody wants to test/proofread/preview the sign-up screen, you may
do so at the following URL:

http://www.geekbabe.com/cgi-bin/dlv/dlvconf.cgi?12345-67890

This will pull up my activity selections in a test mode.

Please note that this is a work in progress and that some things that
need sign-up may not be in there and some items in there might not
happen. Also, prices and details may not be correct. We will solidify
the details around the first of March.

>As as as side note, during the limo tour in DLV'05 limo, we had smokers
>in the limo and we did not smoke during the limo ride. We waited to
>smoke until we we were at a stopping point, outside of the limo to
>smoke.

>Feedback?

Yes, of course. I can see the need to possibly have smoking/non limos
but I question the need to have alcohol/non limos.

A few questions here ...

1. Do the smokers have a desire to smoke while riding instead of
waiting until a break? Bigger question: Are we losing any people
on this activity because they cannot smoke while riding?

2. Do nondrinkers really prefer a limo in which no alcohol is served? I
can understand the smoking issue, but is there really a need for this?
Again, are we losing any people on this activity because the others in
the limo are drinking?
. . . . .

SBS Garden Party:

>Mindy, you and I need to start discussing about what we need and what
>we're going to do for the Southern Belle Society Garden Party at your
>place, ASAP.

>Let's chat by phone. Email me at leggitv@aol.com and I'll call you so
>we can discuss this venue.

See notes below (or above?)
. . . . .

>More to follow, but these are the priorities as I see it.

>Oh, and BTW, Annie, please let me know how to get on the DLV'03 Golf
>List. I'm quite interested in particapiting this year.

Done.

CGT moves to HM:

Michelle (Amanda Michelle) writes:

>After mulling things over and not wanting to upset the applecart, I

>better venue. Conversation can take place in the back and dancing is
>available for those who are interested in that.

>Thanks, (and in the interest of avoiding too many Michelles lol)
>Amanda Michelle

I don't see any major problems having it on the slate at HM's as an
option for those who will not do the show on Thursday.

Do we want to announce a Happy Hour and Dinner at HM's to precede this,
primarily intended for the non-show crowd? (Yes, I know it will be
repetitive for those who attend the HH and dinner on Tuesday, but it is
not TEOTWAWKI.)

Do we want to have a secondary limo pick-up location at HM's for those
who will not be attending Jubilee? (Monique?) I know there is demand for
this, as stated in the DLV Discussion List. HM's will be a much easier
pick-up place than Flex, IMAO.

Thanks BL! Everybody, both golfers and non-golfers appreciates this!

Wow, a trophy! :)

SBS Social:

Monique writes:

>First off, Mindy, so sorry to hear this about your vacation schedule.

Thanks, Monique. :)

>As for Golf, I had planned to participate but not take this venue over.
>I'd be happy to help out, but as a non-local, I would have no idea how
>to take this venue on without some 'inside local' help (once again,
>Cat?...suggestions?).

Billie Lee has volunteered to take this one over, but she may enjoy some
help on it.
