General registration started last Saturday. Headcount including SO's is
now up to 61.

Mailing list is again over 400!

How many volunteers do we have for the Crowd Control Committee? :)

Wow, looks like we're gonna have (at least) 4 Michelles this year!

Shuttle van, Flex, Badge Names:

Same here. I'll most likely have a rental car, and I do prefer it that
way. I've tried doing LV without a car, and it just does not work, IMAO.

Volunteers? Going twice!

Agreed. (Well, they don't have the fish tank, but ... :) I do like the
place.

I had put in Flex for a Thursday Happy Hour hoping for a no-move evening
of HH->dindin->CGT at one place for the non-showgoers. Showgoers will
most likely not make HH there.

>And CGT is not currently happening at Flex.

Is it, or isn't it? I keep hearing mixed answers on this. Michelle?

>So, they may not see a
>great influx of DLV girls on Thursday due to timing. So, I don't think
>it would be over-exposure to have them on Tuesday for a main event.

Agreed.

If CGT is not gonna happen, do we want to start thinking of an alternate
plan for the non-showgoers, such as Happy Hour and Dinner at maybe a
more centralized place, closer to Bally's where the limo tour will
depart? Maybe Bally's buffet/lounge?
. . . . .

>>>did you just put the first names on the badge or both if listed?

Well, on the editor I'm using to compose this (emacs under Solaris) your
é shows properly, but I can't really tell if it's a peecee high bit
character or a unicode one. Let's see how it shows on the web version.

Update: The digestifier passes it fine as is, but my mailer (elm with
default reader) will not display it, and shows "?".

Yes, we do need to have some incentives this year as well. :)

Hmmmm ... I was curious to see if you tried using that character on your
DLV registration, and if it came thru in the database. I don't seem to
find your registration. <HINT> :)

Speaking of which, there are some VERY familiar names that are curiously
absent from the registration list. <HINT> :)

others? :)

Gina?

We don't have to make any decisions on this now, it's something we need
to think about before activity selection time.

Let me rephrase that. Hotels do not appear to want to offer truly
competitive room rates to groups. They appear to want to jack up the
room prices to make up what they will not get from the machines and
the tables.

As an example, compare the "special group rates" listed at
http://www.interop.net/ for the LV Hilton, Mirage, and Treasure Island
to the rates that any idiot can get by phoning the hotel desk. (Hmmmm
for some reason I notice the Sahara is absent from the N+I suggested
hotels this year ... ditto Stardust ... both typically get a good load
of traffic from Convention Center events.)

I have heard that the traditional gouging for rooms during Comdex did
not take place this last year, with many places having more or less
normal rates over that period.
