Schedule:
We now have just three full weeks left in the month of July. Let's
continue the discussion regarding the two proposed DLV periods, those
being:
1. Tuesday, April 22 thru Sunday, April 27.
2. Thursday, May 1 thru Tuesday, May 6.
Let's plan on a call for votes on the week of July 22.
In other news, Laura has sent in a draft of her article for _Ladylike_
and I'm waiting for her confirmation on a few minor items that I and a
friend noticed. We'll be posting this for your comments in the next
mailing.
She's also in the process of preparing one for _Girl_Talk_ as well.

Yes, this is a definite possibility. Please keep us updated on how this
goes, as things may possibly change between now and DLV.
Probably too soon to make any plans, but if we do the Tue-Sun thing,
that might be a good after-pre-DLV activity.

Thanks, Michelle.
For those of you who aren't familiar with "The Other Michelle" (and
those were her words at the top, not mine) she has been with us since
1999, iirc. Michelle has recently joined the DLVORG group, and she is
the local contact person for the Las Vegas Club Girl Talk thing at
Sasha's.
For those who don't recognize the name, Michelle can be seen on the
right in the photo:
http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv99/outnabout/d991208.jpg
The person on the left is, of course, Densie.
Another photo of Michelle, and I think she may not have seen it yet, is
on the DLV 2002 Pride Parade page at:
http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv2002/d02a10122.jpg
This is not the best photo, but you can see Michelle just off the left
front fender of the vehicle. The flash on That Damn Camera<tm> doesn't
carry that well and I shot those photos from a ledge on the stairway on
the parking structure opposite Fitzgerald's downtown.

Hmmmm .... I have mixed feelings about that practice. I would think it's
better for them to simply invite and welcome GLBT people to their regular
services as is the custom around here.

Yes, if you could do that, please. I have a couple copies of _OUT_ around
here, but those are well out of date.

I don't remember my food being cold, and I don't remember anybody else
complaining, but ... I would assume that after a few complaints about cold
food they would get the hint. Anyway, let's keep this in mind and also
see if others noticed this as well. If I can think of an excuse to get
into LV before DLV 2003 I'll eat there for one meal and see if I notice
the same thing. (Hey, I was blonde that night, I'm sure a lot of things
went over my head. :)

Here's what I'm hearing wrt more social time, and this kinda spans two
years. I heard feelings of disappointment regarding social time not
happening or not being available or practical on Saturday evening, which
was the last evening for a good number of our people, both in 2001 and
in 2002.
In 2001 we just didn't have any social time planned that evening, and
the crowd kinda scattered to the winds after the KK show, except for
those who did Rocky Horror.
In 2002 we had it planned, kinda, do the show at Sasha's, wander on to
other places in the neighborhood. When it came down to it, parking was a
bitch in that neighborhood, Sasha's was zooey and understaffed. I know
you, I, and some others ended up at Milano's eating and shooting the
shi^H^H^Hbreeze, but I think many people were discouraged by crowds and
just called it a night.
We did have a good turnout for the Sunday evening thing, but for a
number of our people, the last quality social time was the Friday Annual
Mixer.
Let's face it, one of the most popular activities at DLV (and at every
other t* gathering) is chatting with and getting to know the others.
>I do think that the daily brunch idea will help spread out social time
>to include the "day owls" more.
I still question if a daily brunch will really work, since several people
report not arising until around noon and not getting ready until early or
mid afternoon. Comments?
>What is the opposite of a night owl anyway?
Thumbing thru Websters:
+Night owl (n) 1. Any of various nocturnal birds, particularly those of
+the order Strigiformes. 2. A person who keeps late hours at night.
+OHG: nacht uwila. Opposite: Party pooper.

>consideration here.
I'm beginning to wonder if the out-of-the-way-ness doesn't actually help
us, rather than hurt us, when considering our popular social activities.
Goodtimes and Flex are off the beaten path enough so they are not
regularly jammed, thus giving us a warm welcome by the $taff and letting
us have the places more or less to ourselves. Since they are remote to
most peoples' hotels and homes, our people have a tendency to stick
around, and not wander elsewhere on a whim.

I wouldn't call anything I did in these bars late-night per se, but
kinda scattered throughout the timeline.
In 1998 and 1999, I learned that if I wanted to find Margeth, I would
just look at the casino bar at the IP and almost always she would be
there. I would occasionally join her and some of the others for a drink
there and there were no problems. Bar staff was friendly and there was
no trouble from the civilians. I remember in 1998 one of the people who
had a local relative just told her to meet us at that bar.
As for the Sahara casino bar (ok, I give up, what is the name of that
bar anyway?) I didn't really hang out there, but I would stop there on
occasion with others. Again, bar staff was friendly and no hassles. It
seems like I would always see some of our people there when I passed
by throughout 2000-2002.
I do recall, however, in 1998 we needed a place to go to for our door
prize thing, and I suggested that back bar in the Stardust, the one
kinda between registration and the tower elevators. (This was before DLV
had such a set time/place schedule.) Even though nobody present at the
time was screaming tranny, I got a resounding "NO WAY" from the masses,
who clearly stated they preferred something like Goodtimes.

Even though those casino bars are known to us to be reasonably safe, I
think they are a bit too visible for some of the newer people, those who
comment that they are uneasy walking thru a casino or hotel lobby. I
think that to use one of these for a default after-hours or mid-day
meeting place would have the effect of excluding a significant number of
our people.
Another factor is the layout of these bars. They are sit-at-the-bar type
places, mostly in one row. The one at the IP does have more corners, but
for the most part, conversation is possible only with immediate
neighbors.
>Given that our numbers are growing, it wouldn't be unreasonable to see
>25 girls show up for late night cocktails next year on some weeknight

>although their single slow bartender might have trouble keeping up.
>The question is: how would an IP or Sahara lounge react to having 25 t*
>girls move in at 2 AM for an hour or 2 of drinks? How would they react
>if we did it 6 nights in a row?
I think they would react by selling us drinks.
A few thoughts about bars ... ... It seems to me that the only type of
bar in which t* people tend to get into trouble are those bars haunted
by avowedly-het males looking for somebody to wake up with the next
morning. A gross generalization I will admit, but when I think back over
the years of those I've known who have been confronted, hassled, asked
to leave, etc., it's more often than not at a bar marketed or known as a
het pick-up joint. I know exceptions occur, but the pattern appears to
be there.
With few exceptions, those doing the hassling are avowedly-het males.
The main casino bars such as the ones at the Sahara, Riviera, and the IP
are not really pick-up joints. (Yeah, yeah, I know hookers do sometimes
hang out at these.) These bars have been known to be safe.
Bottom line on this digression, don't go in groups to bars where horny
het males go with the hopes of getting their ashes hauled.
We had people go to the trendy bars at the Rio and MGM in 2001, and to
Ra at Luxor in 2002 without trouble.

Only thing that has to be done in regards to the limo tour is for
somebody to adopt it and make it happen. The person or persons doing
that will have the most say of what day and what time it will occur.

There have been requests for more daytime activities as you know. All
that it will take (broken record/stuck CD mode) is for people here to
adopt them and make them happen. Many of them would not require much
busy work, meaning all that has to be done is make plans and agree upon
times/places.
