Org List:
This is the DLV Organizational List (dlvorg@geekbabe.com) Replies to this
message will be forwarded to the DLV ORG list and not the main DLV list.

This mailing:
This issue contains everything received prior to noon on Thursday. More
items have come in, and they will go out most likely tomorrow morning.
Next week we will transition into the ORG03 list. Nobody should notice
anything different here. We will be adding a number of new volunteers
at that time, so if anybody needs to take care of anything before that,
now is the time to do it.

The tribe has spoken:
19 votes were received.
Vote totals are:
Option 1: 2 (do nothing)
Option 2: 14 (verbiage added to standard documents)
Option 3: 3 (letter to participants, plus #2)
Personally, I'm glad this one is over. It's been, for me, anyway, the
worst downer I've ever felt with regard to DLV.
We need to draft some text to be included at appropriate places within
our collection of material. If anybody would like to submit a sample of
how to say what needs to be said briefly and without rubbing peoples'
noses into it, please do so.
Enough for that, let's move forward!
Below are the vote texts, each with the left-hand side of the message-id:

DVD project:
This was recieved in response to the yearly Call For Volunteers.
Vicki writes:
>I would like to volunteer to produce a DVD of this year's DLV event.
>The DLV 2002 DVD can be used to promote next year's event or give
>newbes an idea of the fun and friendship they can have at a DLV event.
>The DVD can include still photographs, video and music. The disk could
>be played on any DVD player and on any computer with the capability to
>read DVD's.
>Why am I offering to do this? I think it would be great to have the DLV
>event documented on a DVD. Oh don't get me wrong I love the Web site
>and find it very informative and user friendly, but the DVD will offer
>an additional way to learn about DLV. Also I am just learning to
>produce DVD's, I just did a family one that turned out great, and this
>would be an ideal project for me to hone my skills on.
>I know this must be an odd volunteer idea but I think it would be
>beneficial for all concerned, the T-Girl community, DLV, and yes, me. I
>don't do this for a living, its not a business, I just think it would
>be fun to produce this DVD.
>Sooo what do you think?
I really don't have any objection to anybody taking this on as their
own project, but I'm wondering what this would do that a web page,
with the same multimedia, would not do.
How would this be distributed?
Music? I'm wondering if this would be royalty-free or public-domain
stuff or just casually used mainstream stuff? I don't want to have
ASCAP/BMI sending us a nastygram. (And phuh-leez, I hope she doesn't
even THINK of background music of Lou Reed's ".. Wild Side" or
Aerosmith's "Dude Looks Like A Lady", "Lola" or other trite overused
ones like that. :)

Preliminary survey report:
Here is the initial report on the DLV 2002 survey. I was gonna do a
bunch of sexy graphs and stuff, but decided to hold off until I asked
the group here what in particular is desired.
I'm planning to post this to the main list this Sunday.
. . . . .
Survey consisted of 39 responses, or almost half of the registered
people who attended.
1. History. 23 respondents were first-timers, 7 had attended once in the
past, and 9 attended two times or more prior to DLV 2002.
2. Travel. Average travel distance was about 2300 miles. Median was
around 1000 miles.
Six respondents were local. Two were over 5000 miles. 21 traveled by
commercial air, 14 by land vehicle, and 4 by private air.
3. Age. Lowest reported age was one entry in the 30-35 range. Average age
was just under 50.
4. Public exposure. Only one stated that DLV was her first exposure.
Five indicated less than one year, however. 14 repondents indicated 2-5
years, the most common response for this question. 3 stated 20 years or
more.
5. Self-identity was reported as follows:
CD: 19
TG: 5
TV: 4
Other: 4
No-op: 2
Pre-op: 2
DQ: 2
SO: 1
6. 16 state they currently belong to a support group. 12 state they have
been a member in the past. 11 state they have never been a member.
7. Conventions and other events. Number of person-years reported for the
following:
Cal Dream: 6
Southern Comf: 6
Esprit: 4
Fall Harv: 4
FanFair: 3
Texas T: 3
Pinkfest: 2
Be-all: 1
Colo Gold: 1
Observing the "scatter" in the above indicated that none of the
respondents "did the circuit" of T* conventions.
8. Hotels, satisfaction.
Four respondents stayed at the IP. Three reported the highest level of
satisfaction, one was definitely not satisfied.
17 respondents stayed at the Sahara. 8 reported the highest level of
satisfaction, 5 mostly satisfied, and 4 neutral. I was apparently in
error reporting earlier that one respondent rated it less than neutral
in a previous mailing.
1 respondent stayed at the Boardwalk, highest in satisfaction.
One entry here was discarded, stating satisfaction for the Sahara and
comfort level for the Boardwalk.
9. Hotels, comfort.
All 4 reported the highest level of comfort at the IP.
8 of 17 reported the highest level of comfort at Sahara, 6 mostly

recommend Sahara to others, 2 were neutral, and one would not. The one

they found them helpful.
3 respondents reported restroom incidents.
18. Overall ratings.
25 indicated DLV exceeded their expectations.
14 respondents indicated DLV met their expectations.
Nobody reported that DLV failed to meet their expectations. :)
32 stated they would definitely return! :)
5 stated they would probably return.
2 stated they would maybe return.
No respondents stated they would probably not or definitely not return! :)
. . . . .
As I had suspected, most everything was highly rated. I think all of us
deserve congratulations for this. Even the lower-rated activities were
clearly on the positive side of the scale.
I saw no big surprises. One thing that kinda stumped me was that the
comfort rating for such out-in-public things as the Palace Station
buffet and the Mall Crawl were so high. Thinking some more, it's obvious
that those who would be uncomfortable in such settings are not going to
do them.
Comments, gang?

Kenny surfaces again:
>BTW.... Kenny Kerr is performing at Sasha'a in a couple of week for
>their grand opening. At least he is still in town so maybe he will get
>another show together soon or at least do something semi-regularly at
>Sasha's. :)
Please keep an eye on this for us. Having Kenny as a semi-regular would
be a big boost for Sasha's, although admittedly it's a step down for
anybody who has headlined in several of the major showrooms for over 20
years.
I'm sure we won't know where Kenny lands for several months, but we do
need to keep watching.

Smoking again:
>>Sorry if anyone's offended, but one thing you need to rememebr is that
>>for quite a few of us in this culture, smoking is a turn on. You could
>>call this a fetish, I guess you could. It's part of the image.
>Smoking is a turnon?
To some, yes it is. (Not me, however {_GAG_}!)
>I've seen and heard some pretty weird stuff in the T community, I've
>seen people get turned on by urinating on each other, etc.,
"Water sports" (and I don't mean boating and skiing) are more common
than many people think.
>but that {smoking} is one of the strangest things I have heard anyone
>say.
Doing a quick search on Altavista for "smoking fetish" gives 17,000+
results. I know there's at least one newsfroup for it. At one time there
was a magazine called _Lit_ that catered to that kink. How do I know? I
remember it was often on the same rack as _Transvestia_, not to show my
age. :)
I think there's some crossover between the smoking community and the t*
community, but not as much as the B&D or AB communities.
