Org List:

This is the DLV Organizational List (dlvorg@geekbabe.com) Replies to this
message will be forwarded to the DLV ORG list and not the main DLV list.

A couple other items needed:

Looks like we still have a few items that we need info for the Big
Mailing next week.

1. Limo tour. Aiko/Yvonne. Have you decided on the limo size and price
for this?

2. SO's get-together. Mindy/Diane, is there any charge for this? I
have this noted as SO's, male or female, only.

3. Metamorphosis Fantasy Ball. Leah, I looked over the notes, and I am
a bit confused. Do they get tickets at the door by mentioning DLV, or
do the get them from Bare Essentials? (or both?)

4. English High Tea. Mindy, am I correct that they pay for this at the
door?

Thanks, gang. :)

Cat's comments:

>>The focus of DLV is transgender.......I would vote to certainly allow
>>them to participate in DLV if they like but with some reservations....

>I am very adamant about not excluding anyone who promotes the TG

>I believe the practice of excluding one part of our community from
>participation has been a major reason the community is so fragmented.
>I have no problem with anyone participating in DLV if they identify as

I think exclusion is a Bad Thing<tm> in almost all cases. It looks like
we do have a strong consensus on this point.

>As far as advertising, I think it should be kept where it will focus to
>the community mainly.

I agree, and others do as well.

Walking in Heels with Boys with Drinks, Publicity, Panic:

Tina writes:

>Either you're psychic or I have a slow mail server. You've already

Actually, I don't know if there is really a regulation permitting it,
or rather the lack of a regulation prohibiting it, but it may be the
case that something on the books has been deemed unenforceable.

Since they have said it is not to be done between Luna and Icon, I would
suspect that the regulation on the books defines what areas this may not
be done, or, they may have deemed that enforcing it on the main part of
the strip is impractical.

If you want to do some homework, the Clark County Code (both the
Triangle and most of the Strip are outside Las Vegas city limits) is
available at almost any law library. It may be on the web now, I know
it was not in 1998 when I first tried to research the restroom issue.
Anyway, again, IANAL. :)

>Regarding men in high heels, you did a good job illuminating many of
>the issues. Doesn't it hurt to fence straddle so much, particularly
>when wearing a thong? :-)

>I've seen their site. Their shoes are very tasteful, remind me a lot
>of the mod rocker boots from the 60's.

Hmmmm ... If I remember my 60's British (not English <lol>) Culture
correctly, "Mod" and "Rocker" were opposites, kinda like "Surfer"
and "Greaser" were over here stateside. :) But yes, I know what you
mean. :)

>Their presence would not seem disruptive to me. They are a far cry
>from skag drag. I would be comfortable in letting them come to all
>(yes, that's all) activities, but agree with you that we ask them not
>to promote DLV throught their channels.

>Keep the DLV focus on full dress, but don't try to create litmus tests.

That I agree with. I like the "litmus test" analogy here.

>I don't exclude admirers, and I wouldn't exclude these guys. I've
>always thought that there are advantages to having a few more males
>(males SOs, admires, whatever) in the group as long as they adhere to
>the spirit and philosophy of DLV.

>If they go through the registration process, come out and have a good
>time, and we make some new friends out of the deal, then everybody wins.

If they read the web site, read the mailings, and go thru the usual
registration thing, they have to know what DLV is all about. As I've
said before, groups do tend to self-regulate.

>Candidly, I don't think anybody is going to even notice them and their
>cute shoes when they're with a group of DLV girls. We do tend to hold
>the spotlight. I have a hard time seeing how a couple of extra guys in
>heels could make a newbie trannie feel any more out of place. Coming
>out is hard, but excluding one set of people won't really make it
>easier for anybody else. There will be 75 plus t* girls drawing all
>the attention, and also offering help and support to the newbies.
. . . . .

>>>I saw Kelli from OUT magazine there and she would like to publish our
>>>schedule and make some announcements for DLV in the May Issue. I am
[bobbitt]

>>Personally, I think some general announcements would be great, but I
>>don't want to see them publish details such as times and locations.

>>I would much prefer that those interested contact us thru the web site
>>(which I would encourage them to list) and register.

>I agree completely with this approach. We've already agreed to meet
>with LV Out to discuss letting them do an article on DLV and take some
>pictures at a DLV event. LV Out primarily publishes for the GLBT
>community, so local girls would see the contact info. Seriously
>interested people will go to the Web site.

>From a timing standpoint, a May article in LV Out would have to hit
>the newstands pretty soon since DLV actually starts April 31 and ends
>May 5.

And for anybody who meets me at Gallagher's Steakhouse around 6:00pm on
April 31, it's dinner and drinks on me! :) :) :) (Sorry, couldn't
resist that one.) :)

>A link from their Web site would be more useful.

If it's the same web site I saw a couple months ago, I don't see it
happening. :) :) :)

>Personally, I would be more interested in seeing them publish a
>follow-up article on DLV for their June issue, written by a
>professional journalist along with some professional photographs, that
>might have some long-term value to DLV for future publicity purposes.

What I would like to see would be an announcement prior to DLV with a
pointer to the web site, and then a follow-up article. I think something
like that would be best for all concerned.
. . . . .

Panic Attack:

>Help!! I leave for LV 5 weeks from today, my waxing lady told me
>yesterday she is having major surgery next week and doesn't expect to
be out of rehab in time (thankfully, it's not life-threatening), I broke
a nail down to the quick on Thursday and 5 weeks isn't long enough to
grow a replacement (I hate false tips), I haven't lost any weight, and
I seem to be having a PANIC ATTACK!! So, I bought a new dress over the
Internet this morning and I'm trying to calm down. Coping strategies
are solicited. ;-)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Overlapping activities:

>I know for certian events, DLV is providing an alternative activity,
>for example. Metamorphorsis or Club Tour. There were several activities
>which overlap or occur at the same time, please correct me if I'm wrong:

You are correct.

>For May 1st, at 10:00pm, we have Karaoke at Goodtimes and Slumber party
>at Residence Inn

These two don't have hard schedules, so it's very possible to do both
if you want to. I'm sure some will go directly from HM's to the Residence
Inn (not that far) and some will go by way of Goodtimes.

>For May 2nd, there is a overlap for the Pool party at Mindy's and
>Glamour Boutique Open House

Yes, and again, both run all afternoon, so there's no drop-dead time
for either. You can do one or the other or both quite easily.

>For May 4th, there is a overlap of the Mall crawl and Glamour Boutique
>Make-Up Demo, and as mentioned earlier Metamorphosis and Club tour.

Uh-huh. I see this as more of an either/or thing.

>For May 5th, there might be a slight overlap with the Side trip -
>Valley of Fire which is at tent 1:30pm, and the High Tea at 3:15pm ....
>but then again, the side trip may be short? I don't know.. I've never
>done it, so I don't know how long it would take.

This is definitely an either/or thing. I figure we will get back just
in time to make the Palace Station buffet between 5:30 and 6:00pm.

A second-track activity for those not going to LaFemme on Thursday is
still a possibility, the reception at Boardwalk, and boating may be
a second-track option opposite the Hidden Woman thing on Wednesday.

Draft response:

Here's a draft of my response to Anya. Any comments, please speak
soon. I want to send this out in 24 hours if there are no objections
or further comment items.
. . . . .

First of all, sorry this response is late, as I wanted to get some input
from some of the other organizers before responding.

We appreciate you bringing this up with us and seeking our input.

We remain committed to the principle that DLV is to be non-exclusive,
and that anybody who identifies with the theme of DLV and who agrees to
dress and act as a lady or gentleman is welcome.

We don't have an explicit dress code for DLV, and we've affirmed that
there will be no "litmus test" regarding what is and is not appropriate
to wear to DLV activities.

We do, however, issue guidelines for dress, both for DLV as a whole, and
for specific activities. These suggestions come from what is usual and
customary to wear to various activities, from our experience at previous
DLV activities, and from the likes and wishes from our participants.

We do discourage obvious mixed-mode dressing or partial crossdressing,
particularly at the activities where we will be mixing with the general
public.

We also ask that our people refrain from dressing or acting in a manner
that is intended to attract attention by flaunting transgenderism.

To get to your specific questions and concerns, I don't see any problem
with you personally telling your friends about DLV, and inviting them
to attend, using the regular DLV registration process, of course. As
long as they are fully aware of what they are attending, and of our
dress guidelines, there should be no problem.

If somebody wants to join us wearing only womens shoes, and it's done
tastefully, perhaps with some restraint in areas where tourists and
families are present, I don't see any objection from any of our people.

As far as promotion, we want to focus the promotion of DLV on the
general T* community as a whole. We're asking you to use some judgement
on this, regarding where and how you announce or promote.

I don't see announcing, meaning posting the website address and a brief
blurb, in any forum which may have readers who may be interested, as any
problem.

As far as active promotion is concerned, meaning repeated announcements,
activity notes, encouragement to sign up, admonitions to book early,
etc., we would like to see this aimed at the transgender community as
a whole, as opposed to special-interest groups.

I hope this answers sufficiently. If there are any other questions or
concerns, please let us know.

MFB update:

Just received this in feedback. Looks about the same except for the date
change and the Westward Ho(le) recommendation. I assume it's gonna be
somewhere in the WH area then ...

+I have included a copy of the last e-mai that I received about
+METAMORPHOSIS, hope this will give you more information about this event. As
+this event is being put on by the same people that do the Fetish & Fantasy
+Halloween Ball and having attended several Balls, I feel that METAMORPHOSIS
+will be a fun time and the rules and policys will be followed.
+
+Las Vegas - Due to construction delays, the grand unveiling of Las
+Vegas most unique night out has been pushed back to May 4th.
+Slated to take place the first Saturday of every month,
+METAMORPHOSIS will be the ultimate in high fashion exhibitionism,
+hence, a strict dress code and admission policy will be enforced.
+
+Dress Code: High fashion fetish, fantasy, glam, leather & lace, lingerie,
+high class gothic, sci-fi erotic, drag, rubber, vinyl, or black tie (tux and
+evening gown). Absolutely no street clothes, gang wear, biker wear,
+anything grungy or junky, or worst of all, any kind of yuppie wear.
+Believe us when we say, if you're not dressed in the requested manner
+you will not be admitted, so please don't waste your money or your time.
+
+Admission Policy: The current venue for METAMORPHOSIS will hold
+500 people. 50 tickets only (10%) will be made available to single males
+at a price of $30. Couples tickets will also be $30 (covers both
+individuals).
+Single females will be $10. No males will be admitted on a couples ticket
+unless accompanied by a female (committed male couples should
+contact us prior to April 13 so we may accomodate you).
+
+NO CAMERAS.... NO NUDITY.... NO SEXUAL CONTACT
+Violators will be immediately ejected and barred from future events.
+
+METAMORPHOSIS will not be advertised and information is only available
+through this list. The club hosting the event is both gorgeous and exciting,
+and we must show the owner that METAMORPHOSIS is a viable concept.
+Help spread the word to your adventurous friends and acquaintences.
+Have them get on our list by emailing fantasyball@lvcm.com with Fetish
+Night in their topic line. Complete information on ticket availability and
+location will be sent on April 13th.
+
+The world premier of METAMORPHOSIS will be off the hook. We'll see
+you all on May 4th...
+
+For those that are on a tight budget or those that want to avoid the
+elevators and long walks to their cars, they may want to consider the
+Westward Ho. As someone that is just starting to venture out, staying here
+has made it much less stressful to take those first steps after the door
+closes behind you. While the rooms are not fancy, they are confortable and
+clean. They currently have rooms for 4/29-5/2 at $40.90, 5/3-4 at $70.90 and
+5/5-6 at $30.90. Checkout their website at www.westwardho.com
+
+Lastly, Annie a very special thank you for all your time and work that put
+in to getting out these news letters for DLV! You are certainly do a great
+job and a great way for many of us the make friends that we would never have
+a chances to to meet otherwise.
