How's the crowd there around midnight? Would this be an option for those
not doing Metamorphosis, even if it's just a gathering place for
launching to the others such as ...

Ok, thanks. I'm sure it will be fine if they offer a few selections. Do
you have any idea of price range? I want to put approximate prices in
the detailed schedule.

Truth or dare can be fun, if you don't take it too seriously. I don't
know if I would want to suggest playing it (unless all Galiano was
removed from the room) but ... :)

Actually, what you see on the web as The Jargon File was once printed
and published as _The_New_Hackers_Dictionary_. Last edition I'm aware
of was in 1997 or so. Web versions are usually more up to date.

When the first one was to go to press, early 90's, IIRC, there was some
controversy as to whether the explicit and correct rendition or the
euphemism of RTFM should be used. :)

I agree that 3:00 is probably too late to start this. However ...

The way I see both the GB and HM open houses is that they are just that,
open house affairs. Rough start and end times are given, and people are
invited to stop by for part of the time, all of the time, or none of the
time.

I would suggest we do move the start time back to, as you say, 1 or
1:30, keeping in mind that very few will show up at 1, and the group
will trickle in and out all afternoon.

Here's a question for the masses, does anybody know what the posted
hours for HW (and for GB) are?

>>>Activity Name : Dinner and Welcome Celebration

>>SOLID. Time? I would suggest 7:30 PM.

>Again, see above (Hidden Women), I would be inclinded to push this back
>30 to 60 minutes, IMHO and from prior experience with SBS socials.

History has shown that much of our group will usually be "fashionably
late" to about everything. I'm sure that if we state 7:30, people will
dribble in from 7:30 on to 9 or so, maybe even after.

A place like HM's is good, since they serve food and drinks
continuously, so there will be no problem is people drop in when
they drop in.

>>>Activity Name : Karaoke

>>SOLID. Karoake usually starts at 9 PM and goes to about 1 AM, but it's

I would suspect that most of the people will wander from HM's over to
Goodtimes when they feel like it, and that almost any time is good to
put down there, since there's no hard and fast point at which one
activity ends and the other begins. Ditto with the pajama party, I'm
sure some will stay at HM's and go directly to the Residence Inn,
which is not that far away.

Sounds like a plan.

Yes, I think it's Good Thing<tm> if you wish to take advance payments,
but I hope you don't think that is required of you. IMAO, it's above and
beyond the call of duty, but if you're willing to do it, all the better.

I do want to see this be available for those who, for act or omission,
choose to pay at DLV. This is one activity where I want to encourage a
good turnout, since I think most everybody who goes will love it.

And again, I want to thank you for taking this one on. Please don't
hesitate to ask for help if you need it.

>>>Activity Name : Limo Tour

>Do we know how many limos we're going to need just yet?

No, when headcounts start coming in I'll status this group regularly
on this and all the other activities.

>>>Saturday, May 4:

>The plans sound good, but is there going to be an organzied dinner?

Not so far.

There's nothing that says somebody can't plan one, though, but I think
Saturday is full enough as is. I suggest something like a hot dog from
the hotel snack bar for Saturday dinner. :)

In thinking about the logistics for Saturday overall, I think that there
will be less of a time problem if we do the later show. Changing from
afternoon to evening will be more time consuming than changing from show
to ball.

I'm leaning strongly toward suggesting the later show.

>Again, question
>about dinner, is there going to be anything organized?

I dunno, depends on if somebody organizes it. :)

>Saturday has a VERY full plate..is this day something that two venues
>for afternoon and evening activities needs to be discussed and
>finalized?

We do/will have (at least) two things for Saturday afternoon. The Mall
Crawl, and the Glamour Boutique makeup demo are currently on the
schedule.

For Saturday evening, I would like to see LaCage be the feature activity,
with no second-track listed on the schedule, but I think we do need to
decide on what to do after show.

I'm leaning toward suggesting that we put Metamorphosis (jeez, it's so
much easier just typing Fantasy Ball than to spell that out each time,
but I'm trying to be consistent with the official name) on the schedule
as an activity, but give a second-track option, even if it's just "meet
at {wherever} and go barhopping" or something like that. I would hate to
have our whole group scatter to the winds after the show on Saturday.

As to whether Metamorphosis is better than RHPS, I'll have to tell you
on Sunday whether I agree with that or not. Come to think of it, I'm
sure it will be much better than the show we saw last year. :)

I seriously doubt we have to do any limiting of DLV as a whole this
year. I just wanted to give everybody a heads up on what appears to be
heavy registration. I do believe our numbers will drop off somewhat as

The only number I would question above would be the capacity for the
Pre-DLV thing at Flex. I would say it's at least 100, from what people
have said about the place, but as I've said before, I don't think we
are gonna have to worry about that activity overflowing.

>Reconfirmation of Registered Persons

Personally I would prefer a simple yes/no, keeping in mind that just
about everything is approximate. We had a "likely to attend" box on last
year's registration and it showed no correlation to those who actually
showed.

>Annie, do you have an updated count you can share with us?

+Latest headcount:

+Thu Mar 14 04:05:00 CST 2002
+Ppant signup: 86
+SO signup: 21
+Total signup: 107

I would take this with a grain of (sand|salt) until we start seeing some
reconfirmation numbers. I'll go as far now as to say I don't think it is
anywhere accurate as far as reflecting what our real-world headcount
will be.

I still expect to see a total headcount between 70 and 100, based on our
growth history, size of the mailing list, and gut feeling.
. . . . .

I am going to suggest that we concentrate exclusively and entirely on
DLV 2002 up to it and through it.

I don't think it's practical to schedule a formal DLV 2003 planning
session during DLV 2002.

I don't mean to put down your idea or initiative, I'm just respectfully
disagreeing, and it's ok to agree to disagree. :)

I'm sure we (meaning all DLV people, informally, with those who happen
to be present at the time) will discuss, speculate, and dream about DLV
2003 during DLV 2002, but I would like to see us remain focused on the
event at hand, and begin planning DLV 2003 after we've thoroughly
digested and reviewed DLV 2002.
. . . . .

This kind of feedback is what lets us know that we are indeed doing
something right.

It shows us that not only we are putting on a fun party, but that we are
indeed influencing peoples' lives for the better. This benefits all of
us individually and the community as a whole.
