Tina's activity thoughts:

>>Second track activity for Thursday evening. a. Do we want one? and b.
[bobbitt]

>a). Yes. Some people just won't do shows, so having a gathering place
>is a good thing.

>b). Although the Boardwalk details have been slow in coming (which,
>IMHO, is why they don't have a guaranteed spot on the schedule yet),
>and often seem to change or to lack specifics, I do want to give them a
>chance to do something for us. It needs to be a low risk event that
>won't cause significant trouble or disappointment if it craters. If it
>goes well, we can steer more action their way next year.

If I may speak very freely here, I think it behooves the people at
Boardwalk to offer our people some black-and-white competitive rates,
without any further hesitation. That will get our people there.

Otherwise they are gonna book Sahara, IP, and others. A promise of
double points is not going to drive our people there. Good room rates
will.

Once our people are there, I think they (Boardwalk) will find that our
people will play there more, and wander to MC/MGM/NYNY less than their
other guests. If they pass the word that our people are invited to play
machines and tables en femme, I can see a number of our people primarily
staying there for most of their gaming action.

Many of our people are still quite shy about appearing in public in
everyday situations, such as gaming. If they know they will be safe at
Boardwalk, they will play there and stay there rather than venture out
to the uncertain territory at other casinos.

>How close is Boardwalk to MGM?

Easy walk in flats or tennies, just across the Strip and down. Probably
a bit much for those not accustomed to regularly walking distances in
heels.

>We're doing the LaFemme show at MGM at 8:30 with the limo tour
>following that, so if we do cocktails and gambling at Boardwalk,
>cocktails would need to start very early at 7 PM (OK by me), so that
>show attendees could depart by 8 PM (or a little earlier) to taxi over
>to MGM (assumes taxi stand at Boardwalk, and that you already have your
>ticket in hand for LaFemme). Those not attending the show could stay
>and drink a little more and do some gambling (careful about that
>combination!). Personally, I might like to drift back to the Boardwalk
>after the show (assumes I'm not doing limo, though that looks like
>fun!) and do some gambling, if any DLV girls are still there.

>>After-show items for Saturday. Again, we've had a suggestion of
>>Icon/etc.

>Yes.

>>RHPS. Do we wanna leave this one on the schedule, for better or worse,

>No.

Ok, so noted. :) :) :)

>RHPS always bores me to tears, so I wouldn't be attending this one,
>regardless of cast quality (although I still shudder when I think about
>last year).

I admit last year's show sucked! Second worst I have ever seen. Worst
was when an argument between cast people escalated into shoving and
punches. :( Come to think of it, that was a better show than we saw
last year. :) :(

>Annie's point about RHPS being a place to dress up slutty for is a
>good one, but I (sometimes!) dress that way on Saturday anyway and can
>go into any GLBT club in any city and be welcome.

>It's all about confidence. So, I would like to see a late night club
>on the schedule (in addition to RHPS, if needed) and we should
>encourage that event as the one to "dress trashy" for. Personally, I
>look forward to the transition from "town and gown" at Frank's show
>earlier in the evening to "club trash" later in the evening.

We might make RHPS our second-track option for Saturday night, assuming
we have people interested. I do think we should do what we can to keep
our people together that evening.

>Afternoon activities for Wednesday and Friday, including a Hidden
>Woman Open House and a possible Pool Party (swimming, not billiards).
[snip]

>Yes, assuming that the Hidden Woman Open House includes the hands-on
>wig styling lessons we discussed earlier. I recommend Wednesday, like
>1 - 4 PM. On Friday afternoon, I think a lot of people will be
>sleeping after the limo tour on Thursday night. Also, there's golf
>Friday morning and dinner is early on Friday (5 PM at Carlucci's
>according to your schedule), so it looks a little crowded that
>afternoon.

>>Let's hear some chatter from the infield! :) :)

>Hubba, hubba. Batter, batter, batter. Hey baby, can I have a pair of
>those? <insert emoticon here that indicates wolf whistle followed by an
>evil leer>

>Or maybe you meant a different kind of chatter? :-)

:)

>>RHPS:

>>I like RHPS, but I'm not gonna die if we don't go there this year. It
>>does provide our people an out-and-about venue where slutty and kinky
>>dress is not only accepted, but encouraged, for those who want to go out
>>in those types of outfits.

><innocently> slutty and kinky? Who....me??

Uh-huh!

>>>That lesbian strip club is right across the street from Jerry's
>>>Nugget......perfect after a late snack.

>>You do mean a snack at Jerry's, right? :) <LOL>

>I'd love to see us stop in there at some point. Generally lesbians
>either love us or hate us, but are usually too polite to say so
>(exception is NYC, where they'll burn your dress with their
>cigarettes).

>I have generally had good luck being accepted at lesbian clubs, which
>are often very marginal in the finance department, so they love the
>extra business.

>We just need to remind all of our DLV ladies (particularly new girls)
>that lesbians generally jealously guard their private space, and that
>they have zero interest in going home with you.

It's been my experience that this generalization has some merit, but
does have exceptions. Some of them are indeed hung up on this bigoted
WAB/WBW mentality, but others are openmided and enjoy some variety.

Just like people who normally stick to a diet of fish will enjoy an
occasional hot dog, or are at least curious enough about how one
tastes to sample one occasionally. :)

One thing that will make one personna non grata is to try to score by
playing by the unwritten rules that are followed in the het singles
scene or even the local cruise scene. :)

>If you smile at them and they smile back, and you have some nice chat,
>then they might dance with you. All girls love to dance. Just
>remember that their expectations and reasons for being there are
>different than yours.

Very true.

IMAO, some of the anti-male and anti-t* backlash of the 80's and 90's
is fading.

>>As for afternoons, all we have solid is Glamour Boutique Open House on
[cut-paste]
>>We've tentatively planned a Hidden Woman Open House but have not set

>OK, now I see that we are talking about 2 separate open houses at
>separate stores.

Yes, Glamour Boutique and Hidden Woman are two separate shops, similar
theme and product line, and within a stones throw of each other on
Sahara.

>Which one is offering hands-on wig styling lessons?

None of them yet. Leona at HW has been the one promoting wig services.
I'm sending a note to her. See copy below.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Publicity and _OUT_:

>>Publicity, Las Vegas _OUT_. See below. Do we want it? Comments?

>Do you have a URL for Las Vegas Out?

Uh, not really, maybe some of the local people do. Quick web search
produces an overload of similar publications with that name.

>OK by me, both photos and interviews. We should just limit their
>attendance to one single event, so that they don't become a bother.

I tend to agree.

>They need to show credentials (press ID card, whatever) to prove that
>they truly represent Out, or we ask the club manager to kick them out.

Strongly agree.

>We should also ask them to bring along a couple of issues of Out with
>article bylines and/or photo credits for the people talking to us.
>That way girls can look at their work to see if they want to be in
>their mag. Also helps prove that they're really legit. Tuesday night
>or Wednesday night is probably the best choice for this.

I think you are right on there. The first couple nights will have enough
of a crowd for them to see what is going on, but not a mob scene like
Friday or Saturday.

Here's another idea. If you're gonna be there Monday during the day,
maybe you and I and possibly other organizers could visit their office,
introduce ourselves, see what they have in mind, and get some sample
copies of their publication. (So much for a relaxing Monday. :)

>(I kinda wonder how they can have the same name as the national pub)

IANAL, but having one course in Communications Law many years ago, I
would speculate that the name is so generic and so commonly used that it
is not able to be registered as a trademark. We did cover things like
this in class.

>Also, we kick them out if they don't ask someone before taking their
>picture. I'll be happy to volunteer for "press monitor bitch" to
>shadow them during the process.

Nominated, seconded, elected (drafted)! Been there, done that, ask me
about it when we're in the bar sometime.

>Also, I'm sure that we can count on some of our ex-Marines to lend a
>hand, if needed. (Yeah, I know, you've told me that there's no such
>thing as an ex-Marine.)

I don't think we will have to call out the troops to deal with a rogue
reporter. While in the 70's, the people in the GLBT media could be catty
and aloof, those I've dealt with in the past decade or so have been
professional and ethical.

>As a serious aside, that's one of the reasons I have always felt so
>secure at DLV. LV is generally a safe town anyway, and we've never had
>a security incident at DLV, beyond an occasional cat-call from some
>yahoo. And we always have people who can step up and take care of it,
>if there ever were a problem.

Remember, gg's get cat-calls from some yahoo as well. (I seem to get
them from some Altavista, however. :) Las Vegas is one of the safest
venues for visitors. Back when the mob (admitted that they) ran the
town, people who harassed or otherwise violated the visitors were dealt
with swiftly, without the benefit of a public trial. Today, Metro Police
and the casino people are very quick to step in when a visitor (player)
is hassled. Just look what happened when that drunken lout got mouthy
with one of our people at the Sahara last year.

Note to Leona, Hidden Woman:

Copy to this list, to keep everybody in the loop ...

+Hi Leona,

+We're in the process of finalizing our Diva Las Vegas 2002 schedule of
+activities, and I would like to touch base with you regarding a few
+things.

+1. We spoke of a Hidden Woman open house for our people. Would you be
+willing to have this on Wednesday, May 1, in the afternoon? Nothing
+fancy, just an invitation to stop by and be welcome. Token discount or
+special would be nice, but not necessary.

+2. We have some people who would like to have some small-group
+instruction on wig styling. Would you be willing and able to do this,
+either in conjunction with an open house, or else at another time? Our
+people are willing to pay a modest fee for this.

+3. Makeovers, both transformation and instructional, will most likely
+be in demand. Could you please give us prices on this, and what the
+hours are and what arrangements have to be made, like appointment in
+advance, etc. I anticipate the demand for this will be heaviest on
+Friday and Saturday afternoon, May 3-4.

+One last item, Leona, I want to be sure you are receiving our weekly
+mailings. They come out usually each Sunday and have the prefix of
+"DLV" in the subject. If you are not receiving these, please let me
+know and I can arrange for a manual send with a specific note in
+the subject if necessary.

+Thanks again, looking forward to meeting you later this spring.

+annie :)

their efforts over the past several years is indeed appreciated.

I'm taking it that this is a motion to (temporarily at least) scratch
RHPS from our activity list. Do we hear a second?
