Org List:

This is the DLV Organizational List (dlvorg@geekbabe.com) Replies to this
message will be forwarded to the DLV ORG list and not the main DLV list.

Registration reminder:

I was just reviewing the registration data, and I noted that a number of
very familiar names {HINT} are missing, including a few that have been
active on this list and have said over and over they will be there.

Please, everybody, let's make sure our numbers are accurate this year.

If you haven't registered, please drop by the URL:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/reg.html and get yours in.

This is especially important if you will either be giving others a ride
or need a ride yourself. Thanks for your cooperation on this.

Group photos:

Seeing Leah's note below got me thinking about group photos. Of course,
we need to keep tradition and have one at the Annual Mixer in the front
area of Goodtimes, but I think we should schedule at least one more.

I think an obvious time might be right after the La Cage show, as that
will be one of our largest groups in any one place, plus that will be
one of the more dressy occasions.

Comments? Suggestions?

More feedback:

Rhianna writes:

>Not being familiar with that which goes on in Vegas, I'll rely on yours
>and more familiar folks' suggestions.

I do think we have a good consensus on the suggestions. No vocal
objections, anyway.

>I had such a fabulous time last year and this year will be no
>exception.

I'm glad you enjoyed last year. Yes, we're looking forward to this
year. One thing to keep in mind is that each year so far has been
totally different. If anybody is hoping for a rewind and replay of
last year, they will be disappointed. There will be new venues,
new activities, and of course, new people.

>Last year I was amazed and impressed at your ability to
>organize such a function and to please all the people all the time,
>despite that which Abraham Lincoln said was impossible. :)

Thanks, I'll take the compliment, but again note that DLV is quite the
participative organization. The credit has to be shared with a litany
of people who did their part in making DLV happen, from those who
volunteered to "hostess" an activity, to those who helped others get
their feet wet, the list goes on and on.

The real credit for making this thing work has to go collectively to
everybody who came and added his/her face to the whole that is greater
than the sum of its parts. That's what really makes DLV what it is!

Another point is that the way the organization of this thing has
developed, over 90% of the busy work is done before we meet out in Las
Vegas. Those who plan this thing (that's us, gang) have one major job to
do, and that is to sit back and enjoy the vacation. Nobody gets stuck
behind a registration desk, nobody has to go running to the catering
staff to be sure there will be enough rubber chickens. :)

I would sure like to think we're pleasing all of the people, and when I
look back thru the photo pages and see all the smiling faces, I really
know we're doing something right. Most of our feedback is overwhelmingly
positive. Our return rate is always good, and our referral rate is as
well.

However, a few things still bother me. One is the case where we see
somebody at one of the first activities, but never again. :( Another is
a couple cases where somebody has attended, seemed to have a great
time, but responded to the first followup mailing with a very curt
"UNSUBSCRIBE" and would not answer my e-mail asking if there was
something wrong. :( :( Another item is the very high no-show rate we
had last year. :( :( :( I don't like to dwell on stuff like this, but
sometimes I'm concerned that some things could be done better. What
we can do is keep going forward with a positive attitude, and do
what we can for another dynamite DLV.

Sorry to digress on that, I was gonna just type a sentence or two but
got carried away.

>Last year was my first attendance at DLV, prior to which I had never
>heard if it.

>To quote Jackie Gleason, "Baby, you're the greatest."

{blush} :)

Actually, that has to be shared with everybody. "You're" can be plural
in this case. :)

A few items:

Very sorry to hear that. Those of us who have our health, or have
regained it, often times forget how fortunate we are.

Thanks. We'll want to make an announcement of this as time gets a bit
closer.

One thing I see as a possibility. There is kind of a swap meet to be
held in conjunction with the pajama party. Maybe some of the leftover
items can be donated to this.

>2. over the past few months i have been gathering wigs for a group

We can make an announcement of this too, as the time approaches. I'll
look thru what I have and see if I have any I never use. (I'm actually
one who wears them out, so when I'm done with them they are usually
trash.)

What I may do, however, is this. I'm planning on picking up a cheap
blonde wig for the Wednesday Blonde NIGHT, and I know I don't look
good as a blonde, so unless I am overtaken with all that More Fun<tm>
that blondes are supposed to have, I'll donate that one to the cause.

La Cage photos:

Ok, thanks. I'm sure that will be a major hit. :)

>It is one of those "management reserves the right to alter or cancel
>this deal at any time" thingies so hopefully it will still be on when
>we are there.

Yes, of course. :) :(

Hmmmm ... I wonder if we could exchange a bunch of those for maybe one
group photo with the cast and all of the dlv girls? Maybe Mr. Jackson
might be able to arrange this. Comments?
