Mailing list stuff:

It's now the last week in November. Normally I would say it's about time
to wind things down for the holidays. However, we do have a few open
items and we're getting some good dialogue going about the shows and
such, so I would like to keep this list open at least for the next few
weeks, depending on the volume and the need ... and ...

This year I would like to try something a bit different in regards to
shutting down this (organizational) list. I would like to keep it open
(or re-open it in January) until DLV, in case there are items any of us
have that we want to go to the organizers and volunteers, as opposed to
spraying out to hundreds on the general list.

The monthly summary, actually the last of the planned monthly mailings,
will go out next Friday. If anybody has anything they think should be
included on it, other than the usual items, please send them in.

Anyway, I hope everybody had a happy Thanksgiving, and I wish everybody
a very happy holiday season. :)

Slumber party? (Jumbo shrimp? Small crowd? Freezer burn? Inside out?) :)

Seriously, yes, I would be interested.

>I know I should have mentioned this like about 6 months ago.... But I
>am fluff head at times. Maybe we could work this into BLOND DAY!?!?!?

This was mentioned in the planning of DLV 1998, iirc, but never
happened.

It would fit any night, but there are advantages and disadvantages of
some. Friday or Saturday would give you the largest base of people on
which to draw, but there are other activities that would compete for
those people.

Thursday night has the limo tour, which may go into the wee hours, plus
golf is scheduled for Friday morning, even though it will not involve
everybody.

Wednesday, as you mentioned, in conjunction with Blonde NIGHT <bfg>,
might be a good choice. No late-night activities scheduled (yet) and
nothing on Thursday morning (yet).

Tuesday would work too, but as we get closer and closer to the start,
the fewer people would be there.

Let's pencil this in for Wednesday night, as you suggested, with the
option of moving it if you think another night would work better.

>Hugs to all of you... so looking forward to seeing everyone.

Hugs back. Yes, I'm getting excited already. :) 160-some days. :)

Security, shows, side trips:

Hmmmm ... Since both Comdex and N+I are put on by Key3Media, I guess we
can assume this will be the case for N+I this May as well, huh. ...

I was in Las Vegas in October and didn't see any of this. The only two
big garages I remember parking in were Fitzgerald's and Sahara, and
neither had any formality, although at the Sahara there was a turned-
around sign that I read on the way out saying "Please stop for vehicle
inspection ..." or something like that. They tell me (the ubiquitous
"they") that several hotels checked either cars and/or ID for a while
but knocked it off.

One rumor that is going around is that the LV Hilton is now charging
for garage and valet parking. When I do N+I and I'm not in walking
distance, I'll valet park over at the Hilton, or at least I've done
that until now.

>I guess if the security level remains high through April/May 2002 then
>this may affect those at Diva Las Vegas as well.

I can see this spooking some of our people, especially those who are
new or inexperienced.

I think the answer here is to see how things are a month or so before
DLV time, and then send out a nonthreatening notice with suggestions
on where not to go if they don't want to get carded and/or inspected.

This topic has come up a few times on the LV newsfroups, so I'm sure
we will have a very clear handle on what to expect.

I know that at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, they had
both a vehicle inspection when entering the garage (which is a story for
a long rainy Thursday regarding two of our people) and a purse
inspection when entering the museum. No ID check, though.

We want to be sure our people know what to expect, but we don't wanna
alarm them or scare them off.

>What do other people do about Photo Id?

Well, most everybody carries their drivers license, which is the default
legal ID here in the States. Some states (like Nebraska) will issue you
a legal state ID card (looks like a DL, but has "not valid for operating
motor vehicles" on it) in your girlname with your girlmode photo, but
not all states do. I haven't done this (yet) but it may be a good idea
to do so.

I really don't know of any showroom which does not have some public
exposure. Most every one I can think of is adjacent to the casino
area or the hotel common area, requiring a trip through humanity.

The only issue we've ever seemed to have has been at the Riviera in 2000
on Saturday. We're planning to do La Cage on Thursday this coming year,
so I expect the crowd will be far less. Nobody reported anything bad in
2001 except some nervousness going thru the Frontier casino area.

I don't see any way we're gonna get scores of t-girls from vehicles to a
showroom without attracting some attention. Very few of our people wanna
do the single-file 20 paces thing, or 2 at most at a time thing.

>The attached are the show descriptions (for the items listed above)
>from the web site listed in the last mailout:

+'BLUE MAN GROUP: LIVE AT LUXOR' (A) Weird, but also wildly inventive
+and universally funny is this New York-based troupe that picked Las
+Vegas for its fourth and biggest production. When they're not pounding
+on PVC pipe, three silent pranksters in skullcaps and blue greasepaint
+combine highbrow humor and schoolyard play-with-your-food tricks,
+old-fashioned sleight-of-hand and genuine efforts to explain science
+and nature. The minimalist, industrial look and an aggressive,
+percussive score may scare some away, but a new generation of showgoer
+is more likely to appreciate its unique point of view. (3/24/00 M.W.)
+"Blue Man Group: Live at Luxor" is presented at 7 and 10 p.m.
+Wednesdays through Mondays; and 7 p.m. Tuesdays in the Luxor Theater at
+the Luxor. $65-$75. 3900 Las Vegas Blvd. South. 262-4400.

+'EFX ALIVE!' (B+) The fourth version of this giant-sized revue shed
+some of its clutter when it was retrofitted for pop-rocker Rick
+Springfield, who brings two new songs to the party. The show is now
+free to have fun with its miniproductions about Merlin, P.T. Barnum,
+Harry Houdini and H.G. Wells, and Springfield is versatile enough to
+grow into a demanding job. But the more relaxed feel comes through a
+tone of comic self-awareness, sometimes at the expense of the big set
+pieces that are supposed to wow you. (2/9/01 M.W.) Shows are at 7:30
+and 10:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays and 7:30 p.m. Wednesday
+and Thursday in the EFX Theatre at the MGM Grand. $55 and $75, includes
+a full-color program, tax and facilities charge. $40, children ages
+5-12. 3799 Las Vegas Blvd. South. 891-7777.

+'LA FEMME' (B+) Las Vegas finally imported this arty, influential nudie
+show from the famous Crazy Horse cabaret in Paris, after years of
+knockoffs and lesser topless revues on the Strip. As such, you have to
+experience the subtlety, wit, creative lighting and distinctly European
+flair to appreciate the distinctions. The devil is in the details, and
+this is a fun place to sell your soul. "La Femme" will be presented at
+8 and 10:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Mondays in the La Femme Theatre at
+the MGM Grand. $49, guests must be 21 or older. 3799 Las Vegas Blvd.
+South. 891-7777.

+'MICHAEL FLATLEY'S LORD OF THE DANCE' (C-) Flatley, the Fred Astaire of
+Irish step-dancing, created a franchise with his name above the title
+of three companies, but his feet aren't on the stage in Las Vegas.
+Instead a young, attractive cast gamely stomps through a vague tale of
+Celtic mythology that comes off like a mixture of populist PBS fare and
+"WWF Smackdown!" Things blow up good like at a Kiss concert and the bad
+guy snarls and wears a mask. The contagious energy of the performers
+rises above the silliness, but not above the slightly artificial
+atmosphere that comes via the recorded music and footfalls. (6/30/00
+M.W.) "Michael Flatley's Lord of the Dance" will be presented at 7 and
+9:30 p.m. today; 3 and 8 p.m. Saturday. The regular show schedule will
+resume Tuesday. The show will be presented at 7 and 9:30 p.m. Tuesdays
+and Wednesdays; 9 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays; and 3 and 8 p.m.
+Saturdays; and 7 p.m. Sundays in the Broadway Theater at New York-New
+York. $59 Tuesdays through Thursdays; $68 Fridays and Saturday nights;
+$50 for the 3 p.m. matinee on Saturdays; and $59 on Sundays. 3790 Las
+Vegas Blvd. South. 740-6815.

+'SKINTIGHT' (C) Of all the topless shows on the Strip, this is the only
+"equal opportunity" one to include male dancers and a dynamic frontman,
+Darryl Ross, who is willing to strip as he sings. Dance numbers walk
+the line between sexy and silly, but the segments featuring "Miss Nude
+World" Vanna Lace send the show into the grotesque camp of a John
+Waters movie. (11/9/01 M.W.) "Skintight" is presented at 10:30 p.m.
+Mondays through Wednesdays; 10 p.m. and midnight Fridays; 10:30 p.m.
+Saturdays; and 7:30 and 10:30 p.m. Sundays in the main showroom at
+Harrah's Las Vegas. $39.95. No one under 18 will be admitted. 3475 Las
+Vegas Blvd. South. 369-5111.

+'STORM' (C+) It may be the most expensive cruise-ship revue ever
+staged. The Latin-themed production, by Ricky Martin's management,
+takes pop standards from Gloria Estefan's "Conga" to Sting's "Desert
+Rose" and piles on the clutter. The more-is-more approach works in
+short bursts, thanks to a sexy cast and a lively band playing from the
+sidewalls of the theater. It might have played in the old floor show
+days, but doesn't compare well to conceptually focused efforts by
+Cirque du Soleil or the Blue Man Group. (11/9/01 M.W.) "Storm" is
+presented at 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Mondays, with an additional
+10:30 p.m. show Saturdays in the Storm Theatre at Mandalay Bay. Tickets
+are $55-$65. 3950 Las Vegas Blvd. South. 632-7580.

Thanks for the report on these, Michelle. I've seen BMG, LOD, and EFX
but not the others. All are good, imao. EFX probably has more general
audience appeal than the other two, but of those three, I enjoyed BMG
the best.

I agree with the A and B+ for BMG and EFX, but I'm very surprised at the
C- for LOD. I would think that would rate a solid B or even B+, at least
when I saw it.

My choice of which of the other three to see would be LaFemme, but I
would not mind seeing either of the others.

The near end of Death Valley is not that far, either through Pahrump or
Baker. (Can you imagine a vanload of trannies invading the Bun Boy? :)
However, to do a good tour of DV really requires a full day.

My suggestion for a side trip is something that's fairly close and that
will only take a few hours. Red Rock Canyon and Valley Of Fire come to
mind immediately. I've seen both and would not mind returning.

Something like Death Valley might be an option for the Saturday or Sunday
(or even Monday) before DLV if people wanna come early.

I hear you on that and I agree some t* specialty places do gouge, but my
impression is that this place is the exception to the rule. When I was
there, prices on bras and other unmentionables were in line with just
about anywhere. Breast forms were very reasonable, less than most
(non-t) specialty shops.

I don't think GB is trying to compete with any of the mainline stores.
There's no way they can come close to matching price and selection.
GB's stock is mostly what is not available at more common places.

However, I know this place does not take advantage of the community.
When I was there, I had a conversation with John (owner) regarding a
particular known ripoff artist (no names mentioned, but his initials are
Michael Salem <bfg>) and John specifically said he sees them as an
example of what not to do.
