We've got some good conversation started regarding the big show on the
big night. Let's keep that up, gang. :)

I've taken the liberty of adding a couple items to the schedule, just
to get them on the slate. First is the Glamour Boutique Open House which
I discussed with John and Anthony last month. Let's tentatively put this
on Thursday afternoon with the option to move it to Friday or Wednesday
if we need to. We probably want to avoid Friday, since those golfing
would miss it, and Thursday would give them a larger group than would
Wednesday.

We still need something for Wednesday afternoon. Suggestions? This may
be a good time for air tours, skydiving, rock climbing, computer
shopping, touch football, etc.

I'm also scheduling a group buffet dinner for Sunday evening at the Palace
Station, following the side trip, before the Farewell thing. This is
really a low-maintenance item.

And I don't have any easy answers to the logistics. I think you did a

And, please don't get the wrong idea from those who complained, your
efforts are truly appreciated. :)

I would say that if nobody steps forward by February, it shows that the
priority for such a show is not as high as we (you and I) think, and that
we then need to plan some kind of alternate activity for Saturday.

+'LA FEMME'
+(B+) Las Vegas finally imported this arty, influential nudie show from
+the famous Crazy Horse cabaret in Paris, after years of knockoffs and
+lesser topless revues on the Strip. As such, you have to experience the
+subtlety, wit, creative lighting and distinctly European flair to
+appreciate the distinctions. The devil is in the details, and this is a
+fun place to sell your soul. "La Femme" will be presented at 8 and
+10:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Mondays in the La Femme Theatre at the
+MGM Grand. $49, guests must be 21 or older. 3799 Las Vegas Blvd.
+South. 891-7777.

>Are DLV girls up for something a little edgy? Comments?

Yes, I would, certainly, and I'm sure others would as well. $49 is really
quite reasonable for a LV production show of that type. I think La Cage
is $30-ish for the good seats.

I just pulled up the page you referred to for Storm and Skintight.
(That Vanna Lace is a Real Doll<tm>, eh? :)

Out of the three you mentioned, I think I would rather see La Femme.

I will agree that Vegas Girl has a great service, and actually a very
good selection. I've never been to Serge, but most of our people who
have been rate them highly.

>and they (Vegas Girl) are very good about cleaning and styling

Yes, they are always prompt, and they do a very good job too. For wigs,
I would definitely send people to Vegas Girl before any of the t*
specialty shops. GB (and HW) just could not afford to devote the shelf
space to such a selection, let alone having people on staff full time
for styling and such.

Saturday show:

I don't think we're married to having the FI show on Thursday and the
legacy/artsy/whatever show on Saturday, no. It was just planned that
way on the proposed schedules.

Comments?

>You know already that it's
>easy to get tickets for Frank Marino, you just walk up to the booth

They *want* you to book and buy together, but history has shown that
yes, our people can buy tickets separately and sit with the group *IFF*
they are present, meaning ON TIME when the group joins the line waiting
to be seated.

>Then you could have the bigger, and harder to reserve show on

If anything I'm leaning toward preferring something like La Femme. I did
make some comments, somewhat in jest, both in Las Vegas and Chicago last
week concerning Blue Man Group, but I hopefully will not have to go
through with my threat. :)

Only concern that I have with doing La Cage on Saturday is that most of
our people have seen it, at least once. I've seen it four times, and
would not really mind seeing it again, but not everybody wants to make
it into a once a year thing.

Well, seriously, things like that are what make DLV different from the
mainline t* conventions. Classic example of "out of the box" thinking,
to use the cliche du jour. History has shown us that yes, our people do
like things other than talent shows and rubber chicken banquets.

It's geekbabe speak for Circus Circus. Comes from the FORTRAN notation
for exponentiation, which is **. Means Circus squared. :) You see that
on the newsfroups, sometimes it appears as C^2 for the BASIC people.
For some reason, NY**2 never caught on.

>I thought the one at IP is pretty disgusting, but some people liked it.

As far as buffets, the grossest one with the worst selection I've seen
has to be Westward Ho(le). The thing I remember about C**2 buffet was
mediocre food, but tons of kids running all over doing such things as
putting hot fudge on meatloaf and spilling it on the floor.

At the IP, I don't think the smaller buffet (in the coffee shop) is too
bad, but I've been warned to stay away from the larger one.

>My favorite this year was the Sahara Sunday Champagne Brunch, but I
>think it was mostly the champagne that I enjoyed.

Sahara has to be one of the best considering both price and quality.
It's cheap, usually good, and the line is most often tolerable.

As far as the Champagne Brunch thing, lotsa places do it, and I think
it's a ploy to jack up the prices for the touristas who are about to
depart for El-Lay. On Sunday morning ... more like noon when I actually
get up ... the *last* thing I want is champagne (well, maybe next to
last). I seldom have any, even though I do pay the couple extra bucks.

Oh well, I suppose it's a good anesthetic for those who walked too much
the day before. <semi grin>

John and Anthony of Glamour Boutique talked about an open house some
afternoon. Looks like Thursday afternoon will probably work the best.
I'm sure they're gonna get our people in and out all week, though.

>I'm not sure, but I beleive that they can schedule make-up (cosmetics)

Yes, they do makeovers, both instructional type and transformation type.
They have some local people there, but they will be occasionally be
bringing in Jamie Austin from the Mass. store on occasion. One of those
occasions will (hopefully) be the DLV week.

Anyway, thanks for the report. Everybody who has been there seems to be
giving this place thumbs up.

Well, it is getting sent to everybody on the list. It appears above. :)

Seriously, those two addresses are both correct. ivgate is the name of
the machine that serves the mailing lists for geekbabe.com and several
others. The "correct" address is dlvorg@geekbabe.com but the address
it is sent from is actually ivgate.

Don't worry, you have to try hard to send something to the list without
getting it approved via the moderation software. The main dlv address,
dlv@geekbabe.com, has been on web pages and newsgroups for years, and
gets several spam mailings per day typically. None of those ever get
sent to the list. :)
