Things appear good in Las Vegas. The crowds are somewhat smaller, imao,
but things are still going on.

All casinos are open and somewhat busy. Palace Station was actually
quite crowded Sunday evening.

I would say that flying in and out of Las Vegas was only slightly more
of a hassle than it usually is. Line for check in (Southwest) seemed
about the same as before, and did move along quickly. Line for security
was longer than before, but the wait was only 5 min or so.

For me, it probably depends on whether I will be also going to N+I. If
so, I'll most likely fly in that Monday. If not, I'll be able to do the
weekend before for sure.

Yes, I'm glad to see that go on as planned. I just got word that Cal
Dreaming, which was like 2 weeks before DLV this year, has been
cancelled due to the recent events. We may very well pick up a few from
those who wanted to attend.

I'm glad to see this happening. One thing I think you've heard about the
major T* conventions is that they tend to be clones of each other with
the same format, activities, vendors, and even participants. One running
joke was that you could fall asleep at Fall Harvest and wake up at Texas
T and never know the difference. :)

But seriously, I'm glad to see DLV having this input to the T*
community.

Ya know, the Turkey with Bitter Stuffing must be a very popular item,
'cuz when we got there last Saturday, they were all out of it, so we had
to settle for prime rib with fries and cornish game carrots, quite good,
actually. I had the "queen" cut, which was quite large. (Watch Densie
make a smartass response to that one. :)

Actually, I'm sure Leah will pass on what our preferences are. Troy
(manager) seems eager to please.

>A dead cat? Glass of Galliano?

Actually, I think Chat aux Vin was on the menu at the cafe over by the
Delmar.

As for Galiano. {sic} :)

We probably wanna announce this in the general mailing list, which is
due to start up again in January, before we ash-can it. If you think
we need something sooner, we could make an announcement in the
October-November update, which will go out to all 240-some people.
This update will go out this Wednesday.

That's cuz you didn't use the special url that was posted here in the
list. :)

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/reg.html

That one should work now.

>I also couldn't find a link to click on for registration.

You won't ... until February. :)

Actually, we're just now shaking down the registration scripts, but if
somebody wants to make a real registration, it will work, unless for
some reason we have to purge the 2002 registrations. That shouldn't
happen with good code, right? :)

Hard Rock visit:

I'm actually replying to my own item here ...

>4. Hard Rock Casino has apparently become t-unfriendly. I'm planning to

I took a few minutes Sunday to see if I could detect anything hostile or
even different at the Hard Rock. I don't think I was screaming "tranny"
but I did make sure I was at least noticed.

This was Sunday afternoon. The place was busy, but I would not call it
crowded.

I made one complete circle, walking, of the upper level, intentionally
catching the eye and smiling at the person (gg) behind the security
desk. I also caught the eye and smiled at a guy who I believe to be a
security guard. He was wearing a jacket, not the traditional cop type
uniform, and had a radio. He was definitely part of the hotel staff. I
walked right by him and into the ladies room, the one on the east side
by the Pink Taco. One employee of the hotel (housekeeping, apparently)
did appear to give me a look-over as I entered. She was filling one of
the paper towel dispensers. When I left, however, she was mopping the
floor and didn't seem to pay any more attention to me than to the others
in the area.

Since I figured I had been visible to the staff, I returned to the
casino, sat down at a Monopoly machine, and proceeded to lose $10 in a
period of 1/2 hour or so.

Conclusion: Inconclusive, really. I didn't do anything to rub their nose
into the fact I was transgendered, and nobody approached me, except for
the cocktail server, which I declined.
