Next weekend in Las Vegas:

Semi-unexpectedly, I'm finding that I will be in Las Vegas in about a
week on business. I'm gonna fly in early and spend the weekend as well,
meaning I will be in town the weekend of the 20-21 of October. (That's
next weekend. :)

I know we were planning an informal get-together last month when I had
to cancel a stop in Las Vegas due to the tragic events.

Let's carry on where we left off. Let's meet at Keys (1000 E. Sahara) at
about 8:00pm on Saturday evening. Is that date/time good for everybody?
Unless I hear any objections or better suggestions, I'm gonna spam out
a note to the regular list the first part of this week.

Does this work for those who were planning on the get-together last
month?

On-line registration:

I've got the new, improved on-line DLV registration functions about
ready to test. If anybody wants something to do that will help out,
please try the URL below, enter some bogus (or real) registrations,
cancel them, un-cancel them, edit the information, pretend to lose the
confirmation number, etc. and see how this is working.

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/reg.html

If anybody *really* wants to be first to register, go ahead and do so,
indicating that it is indeed a real registration in the space provided.
Just as long as the database does not have to be purged and restarted,
you will be all set. :)

Please look out for errors, both technical and grammatical.

This year, registrations will be confirmed automatically by e-mail, so
be aware that any e-mail address you put in there will receive a
confirming message.

Anyway, please report anything that does not work as expected.

I figure we will open the registration to those on the list around the
first of December, but wait until around February to open to those who
are not on the list. After closer examination of the no-show numbers, it
seems that the early registrations who were NOT already on the list were
the most likely to no-show.

Anyway, feedback on the registration screen will be appreciated.

Flights and such:

>>Be patriotic ... FLY! :)

>I might suggest that those who are nervous about taking an airline, or
>who, like me, have other reasons for not taking commercial flights,
>consider taking a charter flight. If enough people go, the price may
>be competitive, and you have the advantage of deciding in advance who
>you are going to fly with. In most cases, you are free to take your
>firearms and your own booze along.

>>>Only problem, we may not be able to locate the drunk to pose for
>>>pictures again, unless you have his e-mail address or cell phone
>>>number.

>>I'm sure Densie is still in contact with him. :)

>I'm not playing matchmaker for you, ANSI. If you want to ask him out,
>you'll have to do it yourself...and don't wear your glasses!

Uh ... He can't afford me. :) :)

>>My gut feeling is that if FH had gone on as scheduled, it probably
>>would have had 60-80% of the previously anticipated crowd, and might
>>have taken a bath financially.

>Fortunately, that's not a problem with DLV. We can do it with three
>people or three hundred, and nobody is going to take a bath
>(umm...unless they smell bad).

You're forgetting about Margeth at Keys. :)

Seriously, you are correct. DLV will work with a handfull (as we had in
1997) or a crowd like we had in 2001.

Bad experience at LV Lounge:

This was received in feedback, regarding the LV Lounge. I'm wondering if
anybody else has noticed a change to a "confrontive" climate lately. If
so, we definitely wanna yellow-light the place on the list. If this is
an isolated incident, probably not.

I'll be asking around a bit when I'm there next week.

>I'm writing to inform you of a bad experience I had at the Las Vegas
>Lounge.

>As you may know, the establishment has had several different owners in
>the last decade, and it's not exactly in the choicest part of town.
>Neverless, I've enjoyed the many times I've been there, until last
>night.

>They're still very TG-friendly, but unfortunately, the new bartender
>(who's a TG herself), is, well, less than refined, particularly in her
>attitude towards men who, well, dress like men.

>The other night I was sitting at the bar, minding my own business, when
>a girl walked in and sat down next to me (there were plenty of seats).
>We talked for about 25 seconds, then she became incredibly offended
>when she completely misunderstood something I'd said.

>Her reason went out the window, she threw my apology (unnecessary, but
>I offered it anyway) back in my face, and refused to discuss the issue
>any further. Instead, she proceeded to begin chewing me out!

>I'm no doormat, so I politely stopped her and said, "if you're
>unwilling to accept my apology or discuss what you think I may have
>said, then I'm not about to take your abuse. Good night."

>I moved over a couple of chairs and continued drinking my beer.

>About two minutes later, she got the bartender's attention, and
>proceeded to tell her a whopping lie.

>Now please understand the bartender and I were on very good terms up
>until then. Earlier in the evening there were a few unsavory people in
>the bar, and when I got up to leave, she'd asked me to stay until more
>people arrived.

>Unfortunately, her reasoning went out the window as well - she believed
>the other person's story, and asked me to leave.

>To top it off, there was an individual who for approximately two hours
>prior to this incident continued bothering most of the customers,
>challenging them to fights (five times for me), and occasionally
>praising Osama bin Laden, Koresch, and McVeigh in very loud tones. The
>bartender did nothing to stop any of this, so I was quite surprised
>when she asked me to leave.

>When I asked to please tell me why she was asking me to leave, she
>refused, and instead mentioned something about giving me free drinks,
>my being ungrateful (???), etc.

>So, I left. On the way out a gentleman who was standing near the
>jukebox told me, "I wouldn't take it so hard - that s*** has been
>happening a lot around here, lately."

>I would like to add that I've been frequenting bars all around the
>world (literally) for more than 20 years, and have never once been
>asked to leave for any reason whatsoever. If anything, I tend to be a
>peacemaker.

>Quite frankly, Annie, in light of these frequent events, I would
>strongly recommend against anyone visiting Las Vegas Lounge, regardless
>of their persuasion.

>If you'd like the names of some other TG-friendly establishments here
>in Vegas, I would be happy to provide them for you.
