DLV 2002 *WILL* go on:

A bit slow this week, which I kinda expected due to the happenings.

I'll be sending out a note in the September-October mailing to the
effect that DLV 2002 will go on, for better or for worse, with a small
group or a large crowd.

It's far too early to try to speculate on next May's air fares, travel
conditions, hotel rates, etc., but I want to keep going forward with
our plans.

As everybody knows, all kinds of events (both t* and otherwise) in the
immediate to near future have been postponed or cancelled. Reasons cited
have been low response, economic conditions, and uncertainty due to the
terrorist attacks.

We're fortunate that the model of DLV does not require a certain number
of people to break even, nor does it require certain key people to be
present in order to happen.

It's unknown how the recent events and the events to happen will affect
our turnout next April and May.

I do think it's important to say that DLV will go on, for those who can
make it, with a handful of people or a mob. Heck, we had a great time
at DLV 1997 when we could transport the whole group in two cars with
seats left over.

Comments?

News from Las Vegas said business has been extremely slow all over since
the attack, but has shown an encouraging rebound this weekend. Air
prices are at an all-time low. McCarran is operating at about 90% the
flights it was pre-attack, and check-in times are returning to almost
tolerable.

Blonde for the evening:

Tina writes:

>>>Slightly more serious, do you think that we could organize a DLV Go
>>>Blonde Night, where every single girl goes blonde for at least that one
>>>night only? Isn't it a requirement that every tranny try blonde at
>>>least twice in her life?

>>>Responses?

>>Well, I would do it ... for one nite that is. Suggestion: don't make it
>>right before Networld+Interop for obvious reasons.

>They have this marvelous new invention called wigs to facilitate quick
>changes.

Yes, and you remember what happened to me the last time I tried on a
blonde wig. :)

>>Which evening are you thinking of for this?

>Any evening would work, since it isn't a replacement for any event,
>just an attitude and philosophy to be worked into whatever we are doing
>that night. There is a slight logistics consideration: while you could
>buy a blonde wig at one of our LV vendors (Serge, Vegas Girl, etc.),
>you might not get it cut and styled (bang length, etc.) in time, so you
>might want to consider getting a blonde wig before going to LV.

>Of course, it is not a mandatory thing, just an activity to be highly
>encouraged as a fun thing that doesn't cost much.

>Maybe Wednesday would be a good day and night?

We have tentatively planned our Keys thing for Wednesday, and I'm sure
they would not mind a blonde invasion that night and ...

DAY???

Day?

You mean I gotta ..... in public ... ?? :)

Mixed-mode dress:

I'm copying the question and my response to this list in case any of
you others have any comments. There was a question somewhat along the
same line just a couple weeks ago.

Comments?

(Somewhat edited and formatted.)

>Hi, I live in Vegas! (about three years, now). Interestingly enough,
>I first "came out" two years ago, for Halloween. The guy checking my
>ID at C2K kept flipping it over, saying "no way!" When I said "way," I

>radio DJ I'd hooked up with in the parking lot vouched for me (saved me
>cover, too).

>Last week, I "came out" again. Funny thing, though - no one seemed to

>A pair of pewter, 4" double-strap sandals doesn't seem to stir a lot of

>would you at all object if I tagged along dressed only in heels, or

First of all, let's get you on the mailing list. This will keep you
informed of what's going on and the plans being made for next spring.

We are starting to get a few queries along this line, so I might be
adding a question about this to the FAQ.

We don't have any explicit "dress code" for our activities, but we do
have general guidelines and specific suggestions for each activity.

In general, we expect all of our people to dress in good taste and act
as a lady or gentleman (or both at times).

In regards to mixed-mode dress, I would say that it might be appropriate
for some activities, but not for others.

I would say that for some activities, such as maybe some late evenings
at some of the t-friendly clubs, tasteful mixed-mode dress might be
appropriate. At Rocky Horror Picture Show, it would fit right in, even
if not so tasteful. :)

For the daytime activities, however, and for the evening ones that are
very much in public, we would strongly recommend something that's very
close to either complete boymode or complete girlmode. As you've found
out, there's quite a bit of latitude in both. I mean, who really looks
at shoes. :)

For all activities, we suggest that our people consider the following
when selecting an outfit:

1. Personal style, likes and dislikes, etc.

2. Age, height, weight, body type, fitness level.

3. The time, place, and circumstance of each activity.

Another thing all of us have to consider is that many of the people in
our group wish to attract as little attention as possible when in an
openly public place. We ask everybody with us to consider this when
selecting their outfits.

Bottom line, I see a number of options for you. What I might suggest is
you come to one of the early activities in either complete boymode or
complete girlmode and kinda get to know the group. Look over the
schedule of activities and discuss with some of the organizers which
ones might be ok for mixed mode, and then plan the rest of the time
according to your wishes.

Anyway, think about it and if you have any other questions or concerns,
please let me know.
