Discussion about dates:
Not much really came in following last week's call for discussion.
Several one-liners stating they liked the proposed dates, and a handful
who mentioned they liked avoiding Mothers Day. Not even enough traffic
to justify a summary mailing to the DLV list yet.
None of the responses objected to the dates.
Only negative response we've had so far is from one who noted that it
may interfere with finals.

More schedule thoughts:

>I love the opportunity to plan schedules.
Great, you have an opportunity right now. :)
>I've been told that I often
>over-analyze things to death. Hard to believe for a blonde. :-)
Well, now is the time to analyze things, while there is still time to
tweak things.
>One theme of this schedule is the idea to get out and around in LV.
>We are just as good as anyone else, and we shouldn't hide so much just
>because we MIGHT run into an ill-mannered clod rude enough to say
>something.
And ... that's what we've been trying to do since 1997. We've always
encouraged our people to get out and about. And for the most part it has
happened. We have had individuals choose to not go out in the daytime,
or go in boymode during the day, but we've always had people all over
the town, both day and night.
>Covering the period of Wednesday, May 2, thru Monday, May 7:
>Wednesday: Aft Wig shopping Serge's Wigs
> 6:00pm Dinner Someplace casual
> 8:00pm Pre-DLV party Keys
>I've bought wigs each of the last 2 years at Serge's. Not cheap, but
>they do a great job of fitting and advising on color and style. so worth
>it. But, they generally take 2 days to clean and style a wig, so you
>have to shop early if you want to wear it before DLV is over. In 2000,
>their main stylist took the weekend off for Mother's Day, so the wait
>was even worse.
Question: How many are going to want to go wig shopping? Is this
something people will intentionally come early for? (And you think
YOU analyze things to death. :)
>Note the relatively late dinner time. Proceed directly to Keys from
>dinner. Keys has excellent piano bar and singers.
>Thursday: Aft Gambling Store TBD
> Eve Show maybe early dinner show
> Night Dancing Gipsy/Angles
>Gets some dancing in early in the week before things get so crowded.
>Friday: Morn Golf
> Late Morn Makeovers Mary Kay, etc.
> Aft Photo Session Private photography studio
> Late aft Dinner TBD
> Eve Welcome Party Goodtimes
> Midnight Blackjack/Craps Riviera or Tropicana
>Note how the makeovers could lead right into the photo sessions.
Very true. This would require coordination of several things, and
would not allow for slippage.
>Saturday: Aft Jewelry Shopping Jewelry store(s)
> Eve Folies Bergere Tropicana
> Midnite RHPS Paradise 6
> After 2 AM Barhopping Las Vegas Lounge
Uh, does this mean you'll join us for RHPS this year? :)
>Sunday: Aft Dam tour
> Eve FI Show Kenny Kerr Show
> Midnight Neon light tour Tour downtown and strip in
> rented limousines.
> After Drinks Las Vegas Lounge
>Limousines generally cost about $100 per hour (plus tip to driver) with
>a 3 or 4 hour minimum. The stretch versions can hold 8 to 10 people, so
>cost isn't too bad when split 8 to 10 ways.
Actually the rates are about $40-50 per hour plus tip for a stretch
limo and driver. One driver who recently posted on the newsfroup said
his company is still $35 per hour for a car that holds 7 riders.
>We can take turns standing
>up through the sunroof and blowing kisses to the people on the Strip.
>We could leave our cars at LV Lounge (plenty of free parking at
>Commercial Center), taxi to Kenny Kerr show, have limo pick us up after
>Kenny, do the tour, and have the limo drop us back at LV Lounge.
>Depending on timing and minimum hour requirement, limo could even take
>us to Kenny.
I think Kenny Kerr may be dark on Sunday.
Anyway, I think the limo thing would be lots of fun. We thought of having
a limo pick us up and take us to a show in 1998, but it never happened.
>Monday: Aft Golf, side trip, etc.
> Late aft Din-din
> Eve Bibi get-together
>Having a non-FI show on Saturday helps get us out of the closet a little
>bit on the biggest night of the week. Having the FI show and limo tour
>on Sunday is intended to help persuade people to stay over through
>Sunday.
I think we definitely need a big gun on Sunday to encourage the people
to extend their stay. I could also see a legacy show with a limo thing
working as well.
>You'll also notice that I didn't put a lot of detail in regarding
>dinners. Group dining is not my thing, so I'll leave that input for
>those girls with more informed opinions.
I've really avoided planning dinners for groups, since they're often a
total no-winner. I've done the things I've done for DLV by simply having
people meet at a place I know to be tolerable with a high probability of
having something everybody will like, and a high probability of a short
wait. Therefore, the past year when I had to lead the squad to chow, I
picked Sahara Buffet, Milano's, and Palace Station Buffet. Not haute
cuisine by any means, but I heard no complaints (yet). I would hate to
be the one planning a catered or limited-choice dinner for a group of
t's. There is always griping about the hotel-catered rubber chicken or
leather sirloin dinners at the t* conventions.

Time and schedule:
>Its been some time since I had had any input into the time and schedule

Good, I'm glad we're getting lots of discussion on this so early.

>2. I think the schedule needs some work.
>Seems to me that DLV ends up with lots of bar meetings where in affect
>we're hidden away. Yet the concept is to be out in the open and mix with
>everyone else. Isn't it?
Yes, it seems like for the past three years the group has kinda
gravitated to places like Keys and LV Lounge after everything else is
done. This seems to happen whether it's on the schedule or not, and
sometimes it seems the majority of the group is drawn to a place that
is not on the schedule that nite.
My gut feeling is if we tried to steer the group (as diverse as it is,
meaning experience level and confidence) to, say, something like the
lounge at the Sahara instead of LV Lounge, is that a handful would go
to the Sahara (those who have been out a while, and those who are new
but gutsy), another handful would go to to Keys and/or LV Lounge (those
who are uneasy doing the Sahara thing but still wanna socialize that
night) and still others would simply blow it off and crash for the
night (those who really did not care to socialize or those who were
uneasy with a public place or a nonscheduled thing.)
>Maybe some of the get togethers can be in casino bar such as Mirage,
>Treasure Island, Excalibar, Luxor, MGM or wherever. Now I realise
>straight away that some of the less confident will have a problem with
>this but maybe this will provide some variety. And by all means it does
>not stop everyone going back to those places they've been to in the
>past.
In the past, I know we've had small groups hang out at such places as
the casino bar at the IP and the lounge at the LV Hilton with no
problems.
However, I do remember one year (1998?) on one night when we did not
have a planned after-hours meeting place, I suggested to the group that
we try the Terrace Bar at the Stardust (the quiet out-of-the-way one
back between the registration desk and the conference center) and the
group was definitely uneasy, even though everybody was casual and not
exactly screaming "tranny" at the time.
I think this is a topic for further discussion ...
>What about some of the more up-market shows such as EFX. I know they're
>expensive and won't be for everyone but lets see what the interest might
>be.
Only problem I have with this is it might discourage those who are on a
limited budget. One way around this might be to schedule a low-cost
alternative activity at the same time. (OBTW, price for EFX has dropped
quite a bit in the past couple years.)
>I know I keep harping back to it but I enjoyed the golf because its
>something that I have found difficult to arrange by myself. Are there
>any other things that are difficult for people to arrange that we can
>organise during DLV?
Golf seems to be a special case, since it's best done in multiples of
four bodies. Only other thing I remember that's been difficult to get
going are side trips that last more than a few hours, and as you were
saying ...
>What about a day trip to Grand Canyon / Flying to the canyon, then
>touring and then fly back again. Again expensive but maybe a something a
>group of people could commit to. Certainly I'd be uncomfortable doing it
>en femme alone but not with a group.
There are all kinds of air tours to the Grand Canyon, both fixed-wing and
rotary. Yes, they are not cheap. Some of them land at the Canyon for a
ground tour and meal.
There are now some restrictions as to where/when planes can fly down into
the canyon, however.
>For some reason I've never been on any of the sight seeing tours and its
>something I'd be happy to do. This year it clashed with the golf
Seems like the touristy things that don't take more than a few hours are
working, but those which require a commitment of most of a day just don't
get the enthusiasm needed to make them happen. For two years, Densie has
been trying to get people to go on a side trip to Rhyolite (real ruins of
a ghost town, not a cheesy one) but that would kill most of a day.
>and I
>don't really want to get changed to male clothes for the Dam tour, the
>reason I haven't been on that.
One option might be to have those who don't wanna do brother is to have
them take the paid tour, either the introductory one or the hard hat one.
That could be done at the same time as the DLV one. Let's see if the two
groups run into each other. :)
>Do we need to better cater for the SO's that come? Seems like last years
>dinner was flop
I don't understand this at all. We had several signed up, but nobody
showed.
>but may be we should think about it again as a joint but
>separate dinner (Eg Same restaurant, same time, two tables, one for us
>and one for them [SO's) :-)]
Uh, ummmm ....
>Someone suggested a casino night with enough people to take over a
>Blackjack table or whatever? Sounds like something that might be worth
>pursuing although that could end being VERY expensive!
Well, a dollar BJ table on a week night is not THAT expensive, and those
who find a buck a pop too much could go do nickel slots. Sahara has $1
BJ all the time, but the dealers they put on those tables are the ones
who can run a VERY fast game. One dealer I saw there was even assuming
hit or stand and kinda playing for the players unless they showed him
otherwise.
>3. Promotion
>I think the early adoption of specific dates and setting of a schedule
>is excellent and will assist in the promotion of DLV. As with last year
>I'm more than happy to pass on the relevant information to the different
>lists I'm associated with.
>It does seem to me that in order to attract people you need to make the
>decision as easy as possible and to that end I think the following
>should be considered:
>a) Nominated Conference Hotel. This takes the doubt out of any new
>comers mind about the suitability of a particular hotel, being there by
>themselves and makes transport or having a central pick-up point much
>easier.
Yes, it would be nice if we could get most of our people in one place.
Vicki has volunteered to check for rates and group deals around the
first of the year.
>Seems that several groups arranged excellent rates so maybe we
>can something about that as well.
Both of these were actually available to the general public, if they
knew where to go and what to ask for. If there's a similar deal at the
IP this next year, I see that as a way to promote a common hotel.
>b) Estimated cost schedule. While I and many other have been to LV some
>haven't and a list of estimated costs, based on each event may help
>those on limited budgets
I had a skeletal one for 2000.
Any volunteers to do one for 2001?
>c) Formal registration form...
Hmmmm ... {grabbing can of worms, walking toward can opener ...}
My question is: Which would result in maximum participation, a fill-out
form or a request to sign up via e-mail?
>d) Apart from Goodtimes welcome one or two core events that everyone can
>and could go to. Eg One of the shows, A sightseeing excursion etc. These
>should be used to lead the DLV promotion and be the prime activity for
>the given day.
We do have to have some big gun activities, which can be used to entice
people to make the move to actually sign up and go.
Question: Is it the activities which attract the people, or is it just
the opportunity to be with others and spend a few days en femme?
>e) Still thinking up more ideas....but that the most I can give up
>today!
>Hugs
