More questions:

>>>Hi Annie, can I ask a few questions, please? If you don't mind.

>>Ok, and I (and the others) may actually have answers to a few of them. :)

>>>How do people find out about Diva? Mostly on the Web? Magazines?

>>Each year, the turnout was very close to 1/3 the number of people on the
[munch]

>I hope you don't mind, but I've got a few more questions, just
>trying to figure out the dynamics of Diva?

No problem. :)

>About returnee's. Do you know what percentage of people come back
>the next year?

I don't know for sure what the exact numbers are, but my guess would be
we've had a 50-75% return rate the past two years. As I said, this is
a guess, since we don't have a formal registration process.

>Now, do you know any reasons why people don't return, or maybe don't
>come in the firstplace?

Well, I know most all the reasons/excuses given why people don't make
it to DLV in general, so I would assume they would be the same for
those (not) returning.

And, while we're on this subject, I have yet to hear of a single case of
somebody not returning due to dissatisfaction or boredom. :)

Most commonly cited reason for not attending is $$$$$, or rather lack
of same. If we include such things as not being able to afford last
minute air fare, this is above all other reasons by far. I do know
one multi-year attendee who could not make it this year due to lack
of $$$$$.

Second most common one is lack of time/vacation and such. Some cite
family commitments. However, nobody has ever specifically said they
could not attend due to Mothers Day.

Nervousness, uneasiness, etc., is not uncommon as a reason to not
attend. I have a feeling almost all our flat out no-show no-write
no-phone no-nothing, who said they would be there but who just do
not appear, are in this category.

>Now, did you ever considered a feed back form, with answers as to how
>they liked and did not like Diva?

Not anything formal. I've always asked for feedback in the mailing
list each year, asking people to state what they did and did not like.

More schedule and activity stuff:

>> ...leaning toward a Wednesday, May 2 thru Monday, May 7 timeframe for
>> DLV 2001 in the monthly summary that will go out in just over one week.

>Sounds good for the dates.

>> Uh ... DLV with out a FI show???

>Easy, girl. I'm just saying let's talk about it. :-)

>Now, let me give you another jolt. A DLV without RHPS!!!

Uh, uh, them's fightin werds. Over my dead body! <vbfg>

>> Schedule idea:
>> <<snip>>

>Looking at your sample schedule, and I recognize that it was a very
>preliminary strawman, I am concerned that the schedule activities look
>just like the activities we had for the last 2 years.

>Maybe that is a good place to start the debate: do we like DLV just as
>it is (don't change a thing), or do we need more variety year-to-year?

Yes, it is kinda like the past few years.

How about this, those of you who want something different, take it apart,
add things, move things, and send in your version. We can get more
discussion and debate going if there are some different ideas out there.

I would think the optimum would be a good mix of what is known to work
and our people like to do again, and some new and different things.

>A couple of other miscellaneous schedule comments:

>Keys has been dead (no entertainment) on Sunday nights for DLV 99 and
>DLV 2000, as it was on my last non-DLV trip to LV. But, Keys is a lot
>of fun with good entertainment on Thursdays and Fridays (for example),
>so I would suggest scheduling it earlier in the week.

That's quite possible. It would make a good Wed. or Thur. evening thing.

>Also, I went (dressed) to a great Sunday brunch there in 99, so that
>might be something to put on the dining schedule (unfortunately,
>probably interferes with the dam tour, so it could be an alternate
>activity).

For me, it interfered with my ZZZZZZZ time. :)

Yes, not everybody will wanna do the dam tour, assuming it's on Sunday
afternoon again. This could be an alternative.

>Does anybody know if Keys serves dinner? (A question to re-ask next
>spring.)

Well, they used to, or rather they have off and on since they opened.
They had a full menu in 1997, and the kitchen stayed open well into the
wee hours. In 1998, they had a semi-full menu, but their kitchen hours
were cut considerably. This past year, those who ate there reported
a very limited menu and slow food service.

They tell me (the ubiquitous "they") that the person running the
kitchen at Keys defected over to the Las Vegas Lounge early in 2000.
This obviously did not work out, since LVL had zippo for food this
year.

IMAO, LV Lounge would be a definite hit if they had the food portion
operating as was intended.

Candy Girl TG Convention:

>Here is the URL for the "other" TG convention in LV:

>They have updated their Web site with a 2001 schedule.

>Although some of their site links don't work, they do have an
>interesting animated photo collage at:

>When you visit their site, you'll see that their schedule is much
>smaller and simpler than ours, and that their attendance numbers (based
>on their pictures) looks much smaller. Perhaps they would like to
>cross-promote with us. Have you ever had any direct contact with their
>organizers?

Never.

I think they are sponsored by the same people who run the tg2tg.org
site. Last year they did have us on their events calendar and they were
nice enough to include a link to us, so I see no problem with giving
them a link to their site from ours.

Since the two events are four months apart, I think linking between the
two can only cause the two events to reinforce each other. Somebody
who stumbles on one and cannot make it may be able to make the other,
and one who goes to one and has a good time may wanna go to the other
one as well.

As I've said many times, I'm sure several other groups are doing more
or less what we are, even though we are the ones who apparently have
the most Internet exposure.

AFAIK nobody who came this year was referred by that site.

I'll put on my do-it-list to contact them as soon as we get the schedule
in stone.

>Meanwhile, it looks like the Las Vegas Show Queen Pageant for TS girls
>is still DOA. As far as I know, the 99 pageant never happened, and
>there is nothing posted for 2000. I've sent a note to the production
>company asking for an update. See their URL for what might have been:

Well, my feeling is they didn't/don't have the cash flow to make this
happen. It looked impressive when I first saw it, I admit. Too bad. :(

Drag Shows in LV:

>I'm just in a very chatty mood today. :-)

Yes, you are. :)

>I think that drag shows are very different animals than FI shows at
>casino theaters. (Maybe that topic will get some debate started.)

True, the professional shows such as La Cage and Boylesque are totally
different from the amateur bar shows.

>I'm very schizophrenic about drag shows. Sometimes I love them, and
>sometimes I can't stand them. I think I spoke up against including them
>on the 2000 schedule (since they are available in so many other cities),
>but the longer 2001 schedule might offer a chance to re-think the issue.

Well, the way I see it, the bar shows vary quite a bit in quality and
variety. About a year ago I was about ready to scream if Yet Another
"Feel Like A Woman" in almost-sync came on stage!

>Drag can be very monotonous, boring, repetitious...well, you get the
>idea. Usually, its production values are near non-existent.

Some of them do show energy and originality, but yes, many of them are
cookie-cutter clones of each other, with maybe a different outfit and
hairstyle.

>Still, I
>like drag better than FI shows because those are real T* girls who are
>dancing their fannies off for very little $. They are real people, and
>I can identify with them to some extent. And, since many drag
>performers are very pretty, I can also be a touch envious. :-)

>Mostly, I can see and touch and talk to them, while the girls in the FI
>shows are usually "off-limits". I liked the girls this year at the Las
>Vegas Lounge.

I remember one of them doing handsprings and cartwheels on the floor.
Those are the ones we want to see. Unfortunately for each of those,
there are several out of step and off-sync performances to one of about
20 standard songs.

>I'm always surprised that Vegas doesn't have more drag
>shows. Or do we just not know about them?

I've heard of occasional shows at the Spotlight (just up from Keys, near
Commercial Center) and another place whose name I can't remember.

>Do any of the local LV girls
>know about drag shows anyplace besides FreeZone (may they rot in hell)
>or LV Lounge?

Ladies? (Gentlemen?)

>I saw pictures in a recent issue of Girl Talk magazine of a club night
>in LV called Makeup, but there was no mention of what club it was at.
>Anyone heard of it?

Uh, nope, not at all. Ladies? (Gentlemen?)

Schedule conflict:

>well, I hate to be the one who says something, but this would mean that
>I would either not be able to take a spring semester course (as they end
>around May 12th) or not be able to attend.

>(and I want to attend sooo bad (pout)).

And we WANT you to attend sooooo bad {pout}. :)

>I have followed the thread on this a bit and thought that there were
>only a few that had a problem with the Mother's Day thing. Of course
>after this year, sending $60.00 worth of flowers to her and then
>getting not even a phone call on Father's day I could give a rat's ***
>about that.

>Anyhow, this doesn't mean we change it back, just thought I'd throw my
>two cents in as I usualy am in such a rush I don't get a chance to.

Thanks and so noted. This may come down to a call for votes after the
notice for discussion goes out to the main list.

One thing I certainly don't wanna see is a decision that will absolutely
lock out a long-time attendee from returning.
