Only 12 days left, gang!

Down to the wire:

Most air fare bargains have now dried up, but Southwest is still
offering their $99 (or $109 in some cases) each way fare until May 3.
Spot-checking at their web site (iflyswa.com) I find this fare is good
and seats are available from Omaha, Chicago, and Nashville, but seats
are not available from Islip and a couple Texas locations. YMMV, but
this may be worth looking into if you are a last-minute DLV'er.

Filling in the holes:

Saturday afternoon. Concensus and enthusiasm seems to prefer a Strip
tour over shopping, but I think we can hit a happy medium here.

Let's do a driving/walking tour of the mid and north Strip properties,
starting first at the Mirage, and then progressing down toward the
Stardust/Riviera area. For those who said they wanted shopping, the
Caesars Forum Shops, the Fashion Show Mall, and the shops at Mirage,
Treasure Island, Venetian, Stardust, Riviera, etc. are in walking
distance of the stops we will be making. Time will not be as tight
as it was last year (evening show at 9:30), so this can be a bit
more leisurely than the trip last year.

For Monday afternoon, let's plan a side trip to the Valley Of Fire,
just north of Las Vegas. We'll carpool, and this will take a couple
hours. This is some very spectacular scenery! For those who went on
the Red Rock Canyon side trip last year, that was the warm-up band
for Valley Of Fire. The trip back skirts along the shore of Lake
Mead, and offers some very good views.

Thanks, I'm not familiar with this one, though. Anybody?

>Annie, if this is the place I'm thinking of, it's not in the main mall

I think a salesperson who is eager to make a sale is a far lesser evil
than one who is judgemental and standoffish. :)

>I most certainly agree. I LOVE that place!!! However it's hard to

True, however, Belz Mall does seem to be a favorite of our group. :)

Uh, it wasn't YOU who was makin the moves, ... :)

>(no Delmar please!)

I agree, you need a classier place, like the Western or Bonanza Inn. :)
Glass Pool Inn? Klondike? :)

For those listening in, I'm sure the tale will be retold this year.

>Where's the golf outing Is it still on?

Yes, Monday morning at the Las Vegas Golf Club.

For those who were not there, Margeth got a free cold bath from a rather
new waiter in 1998. (Like a whole tray of drinks.) :)

>> >Have you been to the Las Vegas Lounge? We went there a couple of times.
>>
>> Yes, some of the local ladies dragged me there in December. :)

>Where? where?

Las Vegas Lounge, 900 E Karen Av. Be there or be L7.

>can I come? huh spike huh spike can I come?

Well, my name definitely ain't Spike, but yes, you can join us there.
In your case, take a taxi directly from the airport. More or less a
straight shot down Paradise. Most drivers should know the place.

>drab for me? Not on your life I hope

Good! :)

>> >1. I need a new wig. Mine is really bad.

Uh, ok, I give up, ya lost me on that one. ...

>One last thought (coined from a very wise sage) Let's all

Yeah, don't dream it, be it! :)

Boymode or Girlmode:

>>I don't know. I'm suggesting casual in either mode for dress. If you're

>Annie, I hear you, but her's my concerns. I don't think I'm ready for

Best ones would most likely be the Thursday Pre-DLV thing or the Friday
welcome get-together. Both will be somewhat secluded. I would also
recommend those for a first time out.

>I know this is stupid, but I'm afraid that
>somebody will over-dress and call all kinds of attention to the whole
>group at something like the Sahara. Is there anything you can say
>or do about this.

I think I've said quite a bit. I've said over and over that casual is
the "uniform of the day" during the daylight hours in Las Vegas. The
people we attract to this thing are the type who will be considerate of
others, and will not intentionally attract unwanted attention. Another
thing I've noted a couple times is that with rare exception, the others
in Las Vegas will be so wound up in what they are doing that they will
not be scrutinizing the others. In the Sahara buffet, our table(s) will
blend into the blur of hundreds of touristas eating dinner.

Sahara Buffet:

>>>If the Thur dinner is at the Sahara buffet would I be correct in
>>>assuming that most of the girls will be in drab?

>Annie, is the food decent there?

Yes, eaten there several times.

I chose this one for Thursday 'cause it's easy to find, inexpensive, and
has enough variety so almost everybody will find something enjoyable.

>I've heard some positively awful things about
>Vegas buffets.

Actually, I would not disagree with you on that. I would regard two of
them in the immediate area to be toxic at best {meow}, those being the
buffets at Circus-Circus and Westward Ho. I recommend you avoid those
two at all costs. If in the area and very hungry, try the Riviera or
Stardust, although with the remodeling, the prices at the Stardust have
been hiked. This had the side-effect of shortening the lines, tho. :)

I think the key is to not expect too much from the buffets. It ain't
gonna be haute cuisine! At most buffets in the hotels, it will be decent
quality and decent variety. Most all of them have a large salad spread,
so it's not all heavy pig-out fare.

After the Strip thing on Saturday, I'll probably be wandering over to
the Palace Station buffet for their prime rib night. I'll probably drag
others there too. IMAO, it's one of the better buffet bargains.
