Only 30 days left, gang!
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Movin right along:
One month to go, gang.
I would suggest that if you haven't made your hotel/air/car/whatever
reservations yet, you do so quickly. Several of the hotels are filling
up, and you will find at the 21 day and 14 day marks, air fare will
go up sharply.
Checking with Travelocity, round trip fares are still available in the
$200-300-ish range from most every major airport in the US. (See note
about new airline below.)
Rooms are available, and rates are still good, more or less, but some
of the popular places are showing sold out for various dates over the
DLV period.
Check with an independent travel agent or one of the online reservation
services (or rather, several of them :) such as travelocity.com,
lvrs.com, aanhotels.com, for the best prices and availability.
Don't procrastinate, gang! :)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Saturday Night Clubbing:
>> I would also like to remind everybody that there are other clubs in
>> the immediate area of Gypsy, such as Angles/Lace next door, and
>> Freezone just down the block.
>Quite right. After we've given the people at Gypsy a chance to see how
>adorable we look on Saturday after Frank Marino, we should certainly at
>least step next door to Angles/Lace to show off. Speaking strictly for
>myself, I plan to hit all the clubs on multiple nights during DLV.
>Everybody in Texas has seen most of my new clothes, but nobody in LV has
>seen this years' outfits. Although I didn't lose any of the weight that
>I had planned (the best laid plans.....), I still intend to party
>non-stop this year. They will have to pour me onto the airplane to go
>home. :-)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Dinner on Thursday:
>>Let's do this informally. Let's meet at the Sahara Hotel buffet at
>>5:30pm Thursday evening. No headcount, no signup, just showup. :) This
>>is very reasonably priced, and will have something anybody can enjoy.
[munch]
>That's fine and dandy, Annie, but tell me, how are we supposed to meet
>and how am I supposed to know who you all are? I've never met any of
>you before, remember?
Well, I was gonna post this in one of the mailings with all the
directions and stuff, but since you asked ...
The Sahara buffet is one escalator flight up from the main casino and
lobby floor. I'll be in the waiting area at the top of the escalator,
outside the buffet area, just before 5:30pm. For those who will not
recognize me on sight, I'm about 5'6 tall, dark brown hair, and I'll be
wearing a t-shirt with the DLV logo on it.
Pic of logo at: http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv2000/dlv2k1b.gif
I'll also be carrying a sign with "DLV" in big letters on it. We'll meet
at the waiting area around 5:30pm and go thru the buffet line at 5:45.
For those who are fashionably late, we'll try to get a table with extra
seats close to the southwest corner of the dining area, which is the
area you will see when you enter the buffet waiting area. I'll fold the
DLV (Galakewicz :) sign into a table tent and place it on the table.
Just go thru the line, come over, and introduce yourself. We won't bite.
:)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
FI shows and such:
>I read your messages from start to end and I am still astounded by the
>apparent necessity that your group go to FI shows. No offense, but why?
Why? Because our people like them, and they are on the must-do-list of
many people who come to DLV. Look at the number of people who are
looking forward to Frank Marino and gang in La Cage.
>There are far too many other terrific shows in Vegas -
I will agree that there are many other teriffic shows of all types in
Las Vegas.
>you can catch FI
>showsin just about any city in the US.
Yes, and you can catch stage shows of all types in most any city as
well.
It's very rare, if at all, that a show with a local cast, even when
backing up a well-known touring headliner, will have the energy and
pizazz of one of the long-running shows such as Boylesque or La Cage.
Same goes for non-FI shows in Las Vegas. They are highly professional,
and have that "certain something" that just is not there with local
productions or touring casts.
>Back when I was involved in a Tri-Ess group in Atlanta, our first
>outings were FI shows. After several of these, all of which are
>basically the same, the member tired of them, and we began to seek other
>entertainment, as well as going to restaurants all over Atlanta.
I readily admit the ubiquitous almost-lip-sync to "Turn the Beat
Around" or "Feel Like a Woman" gets very old very fast!
However, this ain't what La Cage and Boylesque are all about. I think
it's very safe to say that you can be totally OD'd on the bar and club
shows, and really enjoy Boylesque and/or La Cage.
>I understand you have new girls who have never been out, but Las Vegas
>is, without a doubt, the place to be if you are a TG and want to dress
>en femme. No one pays you much mind, you can come and go as you please,
>and as long as you are a lady, no one cares.
And I agree 100% there!
>We are headed to LV this
>weekend - staying at Harrah's, and believe me, there will be no problem
>anywhere, as long as you act normal, believe in yourself and are a lady.
And I agree 100% with that was well.
>What do you think?
Well, when the demand (from our people) to see the FI shows goes away,
I guess we'll quit going to them. However, I don't see that happening
in the near future.
FI shows are indeed part of our culture. I know some people have the
attitude of "we aren't really like them and they aren't really like
us..." but that's fantasy, imao, that is. Performers like Kenny Kerr
and Frank Marino have done quite a bit for us, as far as exposure and
acceptance. (Well, you asked. :)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Shopping:
>Shopping en femme is really straightforward. You go to the mall, etc.
>Get out of the car, walk in, cruise up and down the shops looking in the
>windows, see something you like, go in, look at it closely, touch it
>(unless its live), feel it, check the colour, buy it, see something
>else, and something else, buy them and end up walking out with lots of
>bags of clothes, shoes, lingerie, medical supplies (for sore feet,
>strained wrists, etc ... the typical post shopping binge injuries) and
>whatever else takes your fancy.
Yep, that's the way it's done. :)
>Seriously though I really don't think we need to either have classes or
>anything other than real life practice.
I agree with you there. The only way to learn it is to get in there
and do it.
>That said, I usually avoid changing rooms unless I'm buying something
>expensive and really need to make sure it fits.
I dunno, I say this depends on circumstance. Some booths are very
private while others are little more than a corner behind a torn
curtain. I would play that one by ear. :)
>If you're looking of a evening dress there's a factory shop at the Beltz
>Mall called "Chez Magnifique" that looked after me really well. It was
>where I bought a couple of really, really nice evening dresses at a
>really GREAT, GREAT price. Tried everything in the store on. Actually I
>had no choice, as the really, really, nice lady kept handing them in to
>the changing room.
Hmmmm, I've been to Belz countless times and don't remember that one.
However, as we've been saying, what the sales people want is for you to
find something you like, so you will buy it, and that you will be
satisfied with the goods and the service, so you will go back and
buy more.
>I've also been round that mall at three or four times
>en-femme with no hassles or problems. If you're nervous I'd suggest
>earlier in the day, dress casual, and relax.
I agree that Belz is very non-intimidating place to shop. Key word
you say is "relax"!

Internet Access:
>I stayed at the Sahara in Nov 1999. Interesting to see that they have

That's the word I got, but it's still supposed to be Real Soon Now.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Golf:

I haven't heard anything on this for a while. Julie?

Phone number:
>Hi All, I was wondering, with everything going on, is there a phone

Yes, there will be a phone and a pager, as well as directions to some
of the functions where you can simply meet up with the gang.
These will be given out shortly before the event.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Saturday afternoon:
>Strip Tour (lots of other time for shopping)
>I vote for Casino Tour, you can go shopping anytime.
So far, Strip tour: 2, Shopping: 0
Any others?

Alterations and Tailoring:
>I might buy something while there, but I don't sew. Can any of the
>Local LV girls recommend a T* friendly dress or tailor shop where a girl
>can get some emergency alterations done during DLV?
I'm not local, but you might phone either DuBarry Fashions (on Decatur)
or Rose of Sharon at Sahara and Paradise. I'm sure they will have these
services, or know who does.
Any other suggestions?

T Group calendars:
>FYI, DLV 2000 is listed on the International Federation for Gender
>Education (IFGE) calendar. Don't I have a vague memory of there being
>some kind of hassle in listing DLV with IFGE in years past? Or, do I
>just have a vague memory in general? :-)
It's like this, this year IFGE was the only one of the "biggies" who
did not snub our announcements. Around December, I searched out all the
T* activity calendars I could find and sent in a notice using their
posted methods. IFGE is the only one I know of which posted it, and we
do get lotsa referrals.
It spontaneously appeared on the tg2tg calendar, and I've been watching
for referrals, but have seen none so far.
>Anyway, I was glad to see DLV listed, particularly since it occurs on
>the same weekend as the Tiffany Club of New England's Spring Fling
>event.
Yes. It was either '98 or '99 where one group did not list us, because
we conflicted with another event in Atlanta(?), IIRC.
>It is just another sign of how much publicity DLV is getting
>around the country. Maybe someday it will be bigger than Wigstock. :-)
Well, I dunno. Some people tell me that they want this one to stay, say,
smaller than Southern Comfort, which has become quite large.

Mailbag:
>I would be interested in the May kay open house
Great, there have been a couple more positive responses too.
(Ronnie, are u listening? :)
>AND is there any chance of getting a T shirt for DLV 2000? Jennylou
I won't be doing the DLV 2000 shirts until shortly before DLV 2001.
Keep a lookout on the list for next year. Sorry.

SO's Luncheon:
[somewhat edited]
>My SO is willing to organize the SO luncheon if there is interest.
>Saturday at 12:30 P.M. at Planet hollywood in Ceasar's Palace is what
>she suggests. A head count would be great.
>It is reasonably priced and it is fun to look at the movie props.
Ok, let's get that on the schedule. In another week or so we will be
calling for initial headcounts and stuff, so we'll put that out then.
