Only 88 days left, gang!

DLV Golf:
>Hello to all,
>This is Julie Carter (Bullhead /Laughlin area) and I will be trying to
>organize a golfing event during Diva Las Vegas 2000.
>If you are attending Diva this year and you are into golf and will be
>willing to play a round during Monday (more than likely), please read
>on.
>Initially in the next few weeks I'll be contacting a few of courses in
>Vegas and initiate a conversation with the manager about the possibility
>of either a set of tee times for individual show-ups or a mini
>tournament style of times.
>In the mean time I'll look at the feedback from the majority of the
>golfers planning to attend Diva and work out what is the best course,
>day, time and price for all concerned. Along with how many will
>possibly dress for the event or go in boy mode (doesn't matter to me).
>Please bear with me as I do the footwork.
>Please relay to me your preferences about the better:
>Day (Monday or ???)
>Time (early or midday ect.)
>Price range (A maximum dollar amount you would spend)
>Along with these, you might let me know if you plan to bring your clubs,
>if you insist on carts or walk.. things of that nature.
>I'll be looking forward to getting this off the ground.

Networld+Interop:
Well, gang, it appears that I will be attending Networld+Interop again
this year, right before DLV. I don't have final approval just yet, but
nobody else in the department is screaming and yelling and begging to
go. :)
I know some of you will be there as well.
If anybody who will be there early (N+I, local, in early) wants to get
together between Monday and Thursday for a drink, a bite, a chat, or
whatever, please let me know and I'll plan for it. If enough are
interested, we could even have a pre-pre-DLV gathering. (We already
have a pre-DLV get-together scheduled for Thursday evening.)

e-mail address:
>Stupid question here, When I send stuff in, it's dlv2000@geekbabe.com but
>when you send stuff out, it's dlv2k@geekbabe.com, is there a difference?
>Should I be using the other one?
It's a candy mint! It's a breath mint!
It's a candy mint! It's a breath mint!
It's a drain cleaner! It's a dessert topping!
It's dlv2000! It's dlv2k!
STOP! You're both right! :)
Both of them work fine and are in fact the same. Although dlv2k is the
canonical name of the mailing list, for consistency (since before the
list had started) I've been using the dlv2000 form of the address for
web replies, etc.

DLV is for whom:
>>DLV 2000 is what YOU make of it. Its a chance to meet other cross
>>dressers while experience REAL LIFE dressed as a woman. Having said that
>>YOU may choose to attend any all or noe of the events cross dressed or
>>dressed as a male. YOU MUST ATTEND with clothes of some sort on
>Can I have a clarification, and excuse me if I'm aasking stupid questions,
>Who all comes to this, is it mostly CD's, TV's, TS's, or what?
If the crowd is anything like it's been the past couple years, we will
have people from all across the spectrum, from those who are just taking
their first peek out of a barely open closet door, to those who are post-
op and fully transitioned.
I think the important thing is that those coming somehow identify with the
TG community.
I don't like labels, but that's not a subject for this list. What I will
say is that I have yet to hear of anybody not enjoying DLV because they
felt they were not on a particular point of the t* spectrum.
Bottom line, DLV is for anyone in the TG community.

Air fares:
>Say, can you help me out with a few things, some of you have got to know
>things about airline prices. I called my travel agent, and they come
>up with roundtrip to and from Vegas for $454 at the best, I know you
>keep saying $200-@300. What's going on?
You didn't say where you're flying from, but I'm gonna guess from your
e-mail that you're in the Chicago area. Looking quickly at Travelocity,
(www.travelocity.com) they are showing roundtrip fares of $198, $238,
and $294, several airlines, price mostly depending on day of week and
time of day from ORD/MDW<->LAS. Checking quickly, seats are available at
these prices for the DLV period. That price you gave above looks like
the full coach price. (And that's the one they probably wanna sell you,
since it means more commission, etc.)
Southwest (see below) is showing $99 each way MDW<->LAS.
>How about priceline.com? Ever used it?
Nope, and I have yet to hear from anybody first person who really got a
good deal from them. (If anybody has, please speak up.) Bad news on
priceline.com is that you cannot choose the time of day of the flight,
and there are absolutely no changes, even by paying a penalty and rebook
fee. If you must change plans, you forfeit that ticket.
I would recommend www.travelocity.com instead, as they do allow you to
comparison shop between airlines and various full and promotional fares.
However, priceline.com now does car rentals, so I may try them for a van
for DLV. Last year I got a very good deal, which the majors will not
come close to this year. It may be worth it for that.
>Also, what's the best airline to fly to Vegas. I've never been before.
Best meaning cheapest, or best meaning comfort and customer service? The
cheapest varies almost daily with promotions and such.
America West and Southwest have a lion's share of the east-of-rockies to
Las Vegas market. Both are competitive and, imao, have cattle-car
accommodations. Both seem to drop prices until they fill every seat.
America West seems to score low on customer service (listen to news
reports), Southwest seems to always score high. Only downside to
Southwest is that it's open seating, stand on line and fight for
your seat.
All major carriers will get you there safely, and mostly on time. You
may have to look around a bit to find the best fare, schedule, and
customer service.
Southwest Airlines has special fares on their web site which change
frequently and expire quickly. Last week they were showing the
following to/from LV:
>Southwest Airlines Click 'n Save Internet Specials at
>http://www.southwest.com/hotfares
>Las Vegas:
> $99 each way to/from Chicago Midway
> $99 each way to/from Houston Hobby
> $99 each way to/from Kansas City
> $99 each way to/from Long Island/Islip
> $99 each way to/from Nashville
> $34 each way to/from Phoenix
> $47 each way to/from Sacramento
However, I was somewhat disappointed and embarrassed by forwarding this
notice about SW to somebody who tried to make a reservation from ISP
to LAS. She found absolutely no return flights at this fare, period.
Caveat Emptor, and YMMV, as always. :(
The TA at work (who could not verify or book the special Internet fares)
suggested flying from LGA or JFK instead, where there are plenty of $199
and $235 RT fares via Sun Country and some others.
The only major USA airport that I know of where people who wanted to
attend DLV could not find RT airfare in the $200-300 range was Buffalo.

More restroom:
>Ann Landers has written in her column on several occasions that you
>should use the restroom for the gender in which you are dressed. In
>other words, when dressed as a lady, use the ladies room.
I would agree with you that. In some jurisdictions (NYC and Minnesota,
specifically) I've been told that the courts state that people should
use the restroom of the gender they are presenting at the time. In fact,
at Fall Harvest 1998, a note in the registration packet told people to
specifically NOT use public mens' rooms while en femme.
>(Ann Landers also advises genetic females to not get upset about this.
>We owe her some real thanks on this one.)
I agree. This is the first I've heard of that source of that advice.
>I used the ladies restroom last year at DLV99 at all functions I
>attended, including whatever that casino was where we saw Frank Marino,
>without any problem.
That was the Riviera, reputed to be one of the most GLBT-friendly of all
Strip properties. (Shoot, they sponsor a big FI show, they are gonna get
trannies and amateur FI's in the audience!)
Nobody reported any restroom difficulty at all last year, anywhere.
>Generally, in casinos, you can find 2nd floor (or higher) restrooms
>above the casino level or in the attached high-rise hotel (e.g., floors
>containing banquet rooms, meeting rooms, ballrooms, etc.).
>As advice, I would say that your biggest fear is inside your own head,
>rather than anything real. Follow Annie's advice of getting in and out
>without making a big fuss (not talking helps!!), and you won't have any
>problems.
I think the >WORST< thing our people could do is go as a group to the
ladies room. That happened in 1998 while we were waiting for the Kenny
Kerr show to start, but fortunately nothing happened.
>Besides, you'll definitely make a bigger spectacle as a
>lady in the men's room, guaranteed. :-)
Last year when I sat down with my attorney to discuss this issue, his
first remarks were to that effect.
>Now, relax and have fun.
Actually, that's the best advice so far! :)

Advance specials:
>Annie, Which hotels offer 90 days Advance specials?
Not really sure which, if any do. 90 day (and 60 day) specials are
usually on such things as combined air-hotel packages, aggregated
tickets, and such.
30, 21, and 14 days are significant airfare spikes.
>Where do you think most functions will occur(Strip or downtown) so one
>can be more centrally located?
The activities will be all over, but I would suggest you book a Strip
hotel, such as Stardust or IP (two we are suggesting) if you want to be
closer to activities, as most of them will be near-strip or off-strip,
as opposed to downtown.
So far we don't have anybody staying downtown (that I know of) but we
do have people staying on the Strip, and in a couple off-strip places.
