Only 99 days left, gang!

Special mid-week mailing:

Due to the volume of mail, I'm sending this out mid-week.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Campers:

>Any idea of what there is on camper/rv hookups in Vegas?

Some of the casinos have RV areas, but most of those on the actual Strip
have done away with this. IIRC, Circus-Circus still has their RV lot
open. Boulder Station has a RV Park, and, again IIRC, California downtown
has it as well.

I do know there are private RV parks which are not associated with any
casino.

I have no idea what fees there are for these.

>anybody ever come to Diva in an RV?

Not that I can remember. We've had people consider it, but nobody's
actually done it that I can remember.

Call For Volunteers:

Thanks to those who have volunteered!

I would like to ask two things regarding volunteers:

a. That those who have volunteered so far make a choice as to what they
would like to do, and ..

b. That those who would like to volunteer to help do so and think about
in which areas they would like to help.

We are still in need of a few people to help out with the following:

1. EVENT COORDINATORS: We need a few people to "adopt" certain planned
activities and do the necessary legwork to make them happen. Things like
shows, group dinner, side trips, etc.

No, you don't have to live in the area, or even know the area well, you
just have to be willing to do such things as find out information, take
a headcount, make a reservation, etc.

2. DRIVERS: Some of our people will have their own cars, but quite a
few will not, and will prefer not to use public transportation for
obvious reasons.

I'll most likely have a van for the duration, but we will need other
people to help get everybody from point A to point B, especially on the
weekend.

We already have a confirmed volunteer to drive a second van (see below)
but it won't hurt to have a couple more people available if needed.

3. BIG SISTERS: We need a few people to volunteer to help out (possibly
at very short notice) those who for one reason or another are having
some kind of difficulty. It could be a case of first-time jitters, or
assistance with makeup, advice on what to wear, etc.

I realize many of you do not yet know if you will be able to attend,
but it's fine to provisionally volunteer.

Please take a few minutes to think about activities or other things
that are a priority for you on the upcoming trip, and those that you
think others would like as well. (If you're lost for ideas, look at
the schedule below at the items marked with "NEED VOLUNTEER".) Then
write a brief note to this list saying "I would like to help out by
doing {whatever} ...".

Yes, it's ok to volunteer to "help out any way you can". You will be
taken up on your offer. :)

Feedback:

>>>Thanks again for your unbelievable fountain of energy for planning and
>>>actualizing this event!

>>You're very welcome. It really doesn't take that much energy, honestly,
>>what I do is jump up and down and get everybody in the same place at
>>the same time. It kinda self-sustains after that. :)

>No, Annie, You do much more than that. You might not always think of it,
>but you give people the opportunity to feel positive about things that
>for most of their life has been negative. As I told you, last May was
>the happiest weekend of my life! I just thank God there are people like
>you who care enough to do this kind of thing.

Thanks. Wow, I really don't know what to say here except that it's
feedback like this that assures me we're doing something right.

I honestly hate taking all the credit for the whole thing. I think most
of the good feelings and such come from the people that attend. We've
always had a very good group of good-natured and fun-loving people.

Liberace:

>Hey Annie, are we ever going to really do the Liberace Museum?

Well, we did this in 1997, and discussed it ever since, but over the past
couple years it just did not happen.

Let's put it on the list of possibilities. This may be a good low-key
activity for some afternoon.

Dinner and hotel notes:

>Dinner: Las Vegas lounge will be serving dinner, the chief is moving from Keys
>to LV Lounge, very TG friendly. I can help out with that.

Thanks for volunteering. :)

I was impressed with the LV Lounge, even though I saw it when it had
first opened and they did not have the kitchen operating yet. I also
liked the Keys, but I haven't eaten there since 1998.

What you might do is choose a tentative day (Thursday, Friday, or
Sunday) for a group dinner there. (Saturday is probably too much of
a time-bind for something like that.) Then we'll put it on the
growing schedule.

>Hotel Note: Circus Circus properties are not TG Friendly.

I've heard that too, but I've heard two versions of the story that
apparently started that perception. Last year we had somebody stay at
C**2 and somebody stay at Excalibur (another Circus property) with no
problems. We've had DLV people visit and play at most of the Circus
properties with no incidents reported at all.

Rides, golf, etc.:

>I'll be attending Diva this my second year and
>spending five days and four nights this time. Two
>nights last year was fun but this year... well I can
>hardly wait.

Great, looking forward to having you with us again.

>I'll be driving my van up this time and will be
>available for transporting girls to and from the
>airport and around town if you need me. Just let me
>know.

We will definitely take advantage of this. Please let us know exactly
which days you will be at DLV before show time. I think the greatest
demand will be for transportation to the various events on Friday thru
Sunday, and maybe some to and from the airport.

>I've also invitied some others to attend from Arizona.
>Three for certain and I guess five or so at the most.

Hey, the more the merrier. :)

>I'll be trying to organize a golf outing this year so
>if anyone contacts you for golf, send them my way and
>we'll see what developes.

Margeth was interested in a golf outing, and one of the local ladies
sent in a list of the open courses in the area. This is on line at:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv2000/golf.gif

We have this tentatively on the slate for Monday morning or afternoon
but if you have another time in mind, send it in so we can update the
schedule. (We get to remove another "NEED VOLUNTEER" note. Thanks. :)

>Email me if you need any help in anything. You have
>done more than your share, and we all appreciate it
>I'm in the helping mode, so call on me.

We do appreciate you volunteering to do the golf thing and helping with
transportation. If there's anything else, we'll let you know. Thanks.
