First of all, thanks for volunteering. :) If we share the load of
doing the busywork, no one person gets burned out with it.
What I would suggest is that you decide on one event or activity that
you would like to "adopt" and volunteer specifically for that one.
As far as what has to be done, I envision something like this ...
For a dinner, select a place, hopefully someplace that is not too pricey
and that most people enjoy. Then get a headcount (almost impossible to
do until the day of the event or if lucky, the day before), make a
reservation, etc. (If you don't know the area and the restaurants, one
of us who does can make some suggestions.)
For a show, it may or may not be more complicated. Some shows have
open (Maitre'd) seating, where groups paying separately can easily be
seated together. Others have computer-reserved seating, where groups
must reserve at once and in many cases pay at once.
Last year, for Kenny Kerr, I just stopped in to the Plaza box office a
few days before. That showroom did not insist that groups pay all at
once in advance, but they asked for an approximate headcount then, and
asked me to phone in an accurate headcount Friday. At showtime,
everybody just stepped up to the window and paid individually.
For La Cage, they insisted that reservations be paid in advance, but
groups could be seated together even if paid separately. I simply told
everybody to make a reservation on their own and meet at the box office
at a certain time so we could be seated together.
Most of the legacy shows and the FI shows seem to have some kind of
flexible seating, so volunteers for this will most likely not have
to handle any $$$$$.
When plans firm up, we'll announce that you will be the coordinator for
{dinner/show/whatever} and those who want in on it should be sure you
have them counted.
There hasn't been too much discussion about shows yet this year, but
that's only a matter of time. Feedback from last year showed that the
group wanted to see one legacy LV show (Splash, Follies, etc.) as well
as a FI show.

We don't have an official hotel, but we're suggesting three.
Palace Station, garden rooms, for those on a budget.
Imperial Palace, has both motel and hotel tower rooms.
Stardust, has nice to very nice rooms.
The "fun" will be happening all over the city, so there's really no hotel
in the area that is bad.

Amusing hotel note:
Some of you who attended DLV99 will find this newsfroup conversation
amusing. (An offer you *should* refuse.)

On a serious note, for those unfamiliar with Las Vegas, there are hotels
and motels there that will make your home town's sleazy motels look like
the Ritz by comparison. Although travel agents and room brokers will not
touch these places, every so often a traveler, in search of a bargain,
will book one of these.
99% of the rooms at the well-known places, both plain and fancy, will be
clean and comfortable, and rooms are always available well within almost
anyone's budget. There's no reason to even mess with the unknown places.

Good question. There may not be any in our group per se, but I'm sure a
few will be hanging out in the various clubs in LV.

Nope. Very tongue in cheek. Almost along my lines. :)

Thanks. Let's see if these generate any inquiries.

Thanks, Michelle. You did make a good point about keeping up with the
pace, if you try to do *everything*, it's very easy to burn out and get
*very* tired. I remember that I was badly in need of some down time by
Monday last year.
(Note in daybook: More pics of Michelle for the web this year. :)
