Only 109 days left, gang!
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Making the trip:

>It is time to make the trip! I am trying to put the pieces together to
>do so this year and things are looking better all the time. I am
>planning full-time later this year, so I will be Kathy all the time.

Great! Looking forward to having you with us.

>I have been lurking on this list for two years...finally the girl
>makes the commitment to try it!

... and I think you're gonna like it.

>About the wig shop....is it a good value...i.e., pricing?

As for Vegas Girl Wigs, yes, their prices are competitive, iirc. Just
a bit higher than mailorder, but you get full service and they are
known to be t-friendly.

Serge's seems to have a wider selection, but the prices are higher in
the main store, and about the same as VG or maybe slightly lower in
their outlet store (next door).

... and another comment from the mailbag:

>Serge's Outlet shop has good section of wigs and much lower prices than
>their regular store in the same area. Been to both but not in drag.

Headcount:

>Say, can you give me some kind of idea on how many are coming?

and ...

>and also, when can you give us a headcount?

I realize some of you are chomping at the bit for numbers. I'll do the
best I can here. Please keep in mind that anything I say before the end
of February or so will be pure speculation, and that is what these
numbers are.

My guess (and that's what it is at this time, a guess) for headcount
will be a total of somewhere between 40 and 60 people, again, not
everybody at the same time, and not everybody at any one event.

I'm using the following to come up with these numbers:

1. Unless something tragic happens, we won't have a lower headcount
than last year. Feedback is good, word is spreading. Last year's
total headcount was 33.

2. Historically, headcount has approximately doubled each year.

3. Headcount has always been very close to 1/3 the number of people
on the mailing list.

That's about as close as I can get at this time, gang. As the date
approaches and as more people firm up their plans, we can get some
more accurate numbers.

Mailbag:

>I happened on this web site by accident and am interested in all the
>currant information on DLV2000.

>Is there a particular hotel? Do you make reservations? If so what
>are the room rates.

Everybody's responsible for making their own hotel reservations.

It looks like we won't have an "official" hotel this year, but we are
recommending three for those who do not have their favorite. Low price
but still nice would be Palace Station garden rooms, just off the Strip.
A bit higher in price, but still reasonable would be Imperial Palace,
and Stardust.

>Are activities planned or do we just get together and plan our own
>time?

We have a lot of planned activities. Everything is optional, and you may
suggest additional ones and alternatives if you like. Take a look at the
list below, including the unplanned additional suggestions. If there's
something you have in mind that is not there, send it in to the list.

>I have never been involved in a group activity such as this and
>really do not know all the questions to ask.

It's really a lot of fun, and it's a very good group. Just keep in
touch and ask if you need anything else.

>I do go out occasionly when I can. I would love to participate.

Great, looking forward to having you with us.

Transportation, etc.:

>I could help a bit on transportation, but my pickup holds only
>one other person.

The important thing is that you're willing to help out if necessary.
It is appreciated. :)

>Thanks again for your unbelievable fountain of energy for planning and
>actualizing this event!

You're very welcome. It really doesn't take that much energy, honestly,
what I do is jump up and down and get everybody in the same place at
the same time. It kinda self-sustains after that. :)

>If as many of us as it seems will be attending, from the comments in
>your messages, this will probably have a different flavor than last
>year!

I can taste it already. <vbfg> :)

This year is gonna be a goodie.

Yes, we will grow I'm sure. Each year has been a different flavor. Sure,
it's changed, but we've always had a great time, and everybody's had the
opportunity to relax and enjoy life, be themselves, and each other's
company.

Wow, seems like only yesterday when we could get everybody to the show
in two cars with seats left over. Looks like it's gonna be multiple
vans plus cars this year.

Candy Girl:

>Annie, Have you ever heard of a convention like yours called "Candy
>Girl"? It's supposed to be in Vegas. Do you know anything about it?

Uh, nope, do you (or anybody listening) have any (other) info about it?

As I've said many times before, I would be >VERY< surprised if we are
the only ones doing something like this. Maybe some of the local ladies
have heard of this.

Back in 1998, there was another event kinda like ours (but think
leather, not feather <bfg>) at the Tropicana two weeks after DLV.

If there is such a thing, they are doing a good job of keeping it to
themselves. I regularly do web searches using various keywords and
phrases such as "vegas near transgender" and the like, and I haven't
seen anything.

An Altavista search of "candy;girl +vegas" a few minutes ago came up
with TONS of lists of 60's songs (Four Seasons and Elvis) but nothing
about anything like DLV.

Mailbag:

> Fabulous! Thank you, Annie. This one looks like a winner, simply
> because of the non-commercial attitude (and the short airplane ride
> from Phoenix).

I think you'll like it. The past three have been loads of fun. I know
there are others from the Phoenix area who are planning to attend as
well.

> You are a doll for letting me know about it. Are you going
> to be there?

Well, since I'm one of those responsible for instigating it, I guess
I should at least show up. :)
