DLV 2006 updates:

Welcome to all who recently joined or recently registered. We're
looking forward to having you with us this coming April. If you have
any questions or concerns, please let us know.

One very important thing to note, and there seems to be some confusion
and misunderstanding still, please be sure that you know what DLV is and
is not before you register. Please view the web site (link below) and
read the FAQ. DLV is completely different from things like Southern
Comfort, Fall Harvest, FanFair, etc.
. . . . .

Latest numbers:

We're now up to a validated headcount of 87, from all over the US
(including one from Hawaii), Canada, the UK, and New Zealand. Again,
we'll have a truly international group.

Three validations outstanding. Please get those in. Your cooperation
is appreciated.
. . . . .

Recent reports that room rates remain low at the Sahara (for now) with
good availability. One report that one travel agent is showing
"standard" rooms at the IP sold out over the DLV period, with "deluxe"
rooms and suites still available.

Another report of very good rates at Terrible's, which is about a mile
east of the Strip.
. . . . .

Lots of good conversation lately regarding dress on the DLV Discussion
Forum at http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlvdisc/

Questions and answers:

Various items that have come in over the past week ...

>Hi I am curious as to the cost and if there any "Travel packages"
>available?

There's no charge per se to attend DLV. Some of the activities have
charges, and those will be posted at activity sign-up time, which will
start in the end of March.

Of course you're responsible for your food, lodging, transportation and
incidental expenses.

As for travel packages, DLV doesn't have any in particular, but there
are countless ones out there. Any travel agent can find them for you.

Every travel site claims that they can save you scads of $$$ if you book
hotel and air through them together. However, I haven't yet seen any
that can combine a bottom-dollar airfare with an already-low hotel rate
for even more savings ... except ...

Southwest Vacations. It's very hit and miss, and there are some minor
disadvantages, but I have seen them offer some real and bookable
air-hotel combinations that were better than anybody else could come
close to.

A couple caveats:

Packages usually are priced for double occupancy, meaning you have to
buy 2 packages to get that rate. That's great if your SO is coming.

Also, for Southwest, the packages are paper tickets, meaning you can't
check-in on line and get that coveted "A" pass early.

>I have never attended any such conventions, but I am interested.

You used the "C-word". :)

Please be sure that you know exactly what DLV is before you register.
We're totally different from the conventions that you've heard about.

You might want to review the FAQ list on our web site:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/faq/
. . . . .

>hi question..... which hotel do most of the people stay at and which
>hotel has the host the most events..... regards thank-you Molly

Our suggested hotels are the Imperial Palace, Monte Carlo, and Sahara.

Very few of our activities are held in these hotels.

The hotel that usually gets the largest group of our people is the
Sahara. From the registrations that have come in so far, it looks like
our second largest contingent will be at the Monte Carlo.
. . . . .

>How do I make a group reservation? There will be 7 of us. Is there
>any kind of a price break or group discount?

We really don't have a process for group registrations. Please have
everybody register individually. This helps us keep things accurate and
assures that everybody will be in the loop as to what is happening with
DLV.

There's no registration fee, so there's obviously no group discount.
Again, please read the web site (http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/) to be
very sure you know what DLV is.
