Welcome:

Welcome to those who just registered or joined the list. We're looking
foward to having you with us this April. Please let us know if you
have any questions or concerns.

Less than two months to go, gang! :)

There's a lot happening, and you can expect the pace to quicken even
more between now and DLV. Please be sure to read the "Things To Come"
item below!

There was no general mailing last week. Between now and about April 1
you can expect these mailings every 1-2 weeks.

All DLV correspondence appears to be caught up. If you sent in anything
that needs a response and didn't get one, please remind us, as e-mail is
not a perfect medium.
. . .

Registration difficulties:

One very important note -- If you register and don't receive anything
from us via e-mail very shortly, something is wrong and we need to know
about it. Please let us know if this should happen to you.

In the event something doesn't work as expected, if you don't understand
something, if you get an error message, or even if you're confused about
the process, please let us know.

In a worst case, we can register you by mail. Let us know if you have
any difficulty with registration.
. . .

Latest numbers:

96 as of this morning. Who will be number 100? :)

That's a very good count as of this time, particularly considering that
general registration does not open for another week and a half.

One validation outstanding. Please get that in. :)
. . .

The summary working schedule appears below and will appear in all
general mailings between now and DLV. Please keep in mind that the
schedule is still under development and changes will be certain to
occur between now and DLV.

In particular, the shows that appear on the schedule now reflect the
current consensus of the organizers, but are still under discussion.
When these are final, it will be announced in this list. As always,
input is welcome.

The schedules that will be posted in these mailings are only the working
summary schedules. The complete detailed schedule, with such things as
locations, where to meet, driving directions, etc., will be sent in the
Large Final Mailing to those with validated registrations. See "Things
To Come" below.
. . .

DLV 2006 registration for those on this mailing list is now open.

Questions and answers:

>If your not having events in the hotel, how do you get to them? Drive?

Yes. :)

Seriously, most of our people either drive or ride with somebody who has
a vehicle. We'll be coordinating ride share again and we expect that
again this year there will be far more available seats than there will
be people who need them.

Other transportation options are available and will be discussed in the
Large Final Mailing.
. . .

>Will there be somebody there doing make-overs of make-up lessons? I'm
>new to all this.

There are a number of options, one being Glamour Boutique (see item
below). For other options and discussion on this, look at our "Starting
From Scratch" item in the DLV Discussion Forum:

Latest dress and activity items:

For DLV 2006, the weekly (most weeks, anyway) activity highlights and
dress items will be moved to the DLV Discussion Forum and the links
will be posted here in the general mailings.

Things to come:

Here's a summary of important milestones you'll want to keep in mind as
you plan your trip to DLV.
. . .

General registration:

This opens March 1. This really won't affect those on the list, but it's
when we open the general registration link on the web site.
. . .

Activity sign-up:

This is scheduled to begin Sunday, March 26. Those who have validated
registrations as of March 26 will receive an e-mail with a link to the
activity sign-up screen. This is a one-stop-shop for all DLV 2006
optional activities.

Some of these, such as the Limo Tour, and Night Of The Soiled Doves will
be sign-up required, first signed, first served, with late sign-ups
going on a waiting list.

Others, such as side trips and such, will be sign-up requested so we can
get an idea of how many to expect.

The answer to any "how do I sign up for ...?" question is you do it on
line beginning March 26.
. . .

Large Final Mailing:

On or around April 12 we will send out what we call our Large Final
Mailing to everybody who has registered and completed the activity
sign-up process.

At DLV we limit the number of dead trees that we hand you when you
check in. Most of the information that you'll need will be coming to
you in the Large Final Mailing.

The Large Final Mailing will include:

* Your personalized final activity selections and itinerary.
* Final detailed schedule of DLV activities.
* Very detailed directions to DLV activity locations.
* Link to a map of DLV activity locations.
* Link to visual directions (photos) of many DLV activity venues.
* Dress notes and dress suggestions for each major activity.
* Organizer contact phone numbers and Big Sister Hotline number.
* Photography information.
* Various vendor/merchant discounts and promotions.

Also included are various hints and notes such as check-in instructions,
how to find the group at our locations, what to do if you have trouble
finding the group, etc.
. . .

Checking In:

When you get to DLV, the check-in procedure is very simple and this year
we will be making check-in available at all major activities and many of
the smaller ones, particularly those toward the beginning of the week.

In particular, check-in will be available at the daily Lunch With (or
without) Ginger.
. . .

Uneasy, uncertain, or just a bit shy:

This is to be expected and is quite normal. Every since 1997 we've had
some of our people say that yes, they were a bit nervous and uneasy when
venturing out in public or when meeting the group for the first time.

If you're uneasy or uncertain, we can help you take those first big
steps.

* If you would feel better meeting one of our people one-on-one before
going to a large group gathering, just let us know and we will make that
happen.

* If you can't get the nerve to leave your hotel room (this has
happened), phone our Big Sister Hotline (number will go out in the
Large Final Mailing) and we'll get somebody to meet you and escort
you.

* If you're new and don't know anybody, our volunteer Big Sisters will
be glad to introduce you around to the others.

If you have any particular concerns, please let us know.

Big Sisters:

Attention Newcomers!

At DLV, we pride ourselves in offering a friendly, outgoing, and
supportive environment. For many years our Big Sister Program has served
those who want or need some personal guidance and assistance.

Our volunteer Big Sisters are DLV veterans who have agreed to spend some
time during and/or before DLV with those who may be new, uncertain, or
who may just have some particular needs or concerns.

Not sure if DLV is for you? Write in and ask for a Big Sister to
correspond with you.

Need some fashion advice? Makeup help? Yes, Big Sisters are there.

Just a bit uneasy coming to your first DLV activity? Just ask a
Big Sister to accompany you.

To get in contact with a Big Sister, just e-mail: bigsister@geekbabe.com

Alternatively, after you register you can request a Big Sister by
following the link you received to update your registration. Just click
on the "Big Sister" button.
. . . . . .

Attention Returnees!

We want to have as large a pool of potential Big Sisters as possible so
that Nora, our Big Sister Coordinator, can do a "Best Match" as opposed
to a "First Match" or "Only Match".

If you appreciate what DLV has done for you, and want to give some of
this back, please consider volunteering to be a Big Sister. You can do
this either by e-mailing bigsister@geekbabe.com or by filling out the
Big Sister Volunteer form by following the link that you received in
e-mail shortly after you registered.

Glamour Boutique Open House:

Glamour Boutique has been an enthusiastic DLV supporter ever since they
opened their Las Vegas store.

On Thursday afternoon of DLV week, Glamour Boutique will be hosting an
Open House for DLV attendees.

This will include solid and liquid refreshments as well as various
announced and unannounced promotional specials for DLV people.

You can visit Glamour Boutique on the web at:

http://www.glamourboutiquewest.com/gb2vegas.htm

Once again, thanks to Amy and the Glamour Boutique staff for their
continuing support. :)

Attention Long Island residents:

It was just posted on a couple of the LV boards that Southwest Airlines
has a promotional buy-one-get-one-free deal on round trips to Las Vegas
from Islip (ISP) which covers the DLV dates.

No further details are known as of this time. Please contact Southwest
Airlines directly.

The one restriction that was noted is that you must have a Long Island
address. It's unknown if this includes Queens and/or Kings Counties.

Further details will be posted on the DLV Discussion Forum when they
become available.
