Only 87 days left, gang!

Restroom regulations:

I phoned my attorney regarding this. His cursory scan of the codes came
up with nothing. He is currently querying colleagues who are more
familiar with Nevada law. If this doesn't get anything, his next step
will be an exhaustive search using Westlaw. I'll report back when
anything surfaces.

His first response upon me asking was along the line of "I would
think it would create far more trouble if someone {tg, m-f} walked
into a mens room."

As I said, I am unaware of anybody ever being hassled for using the
restroom of their presented gender in LV.

Mailbag:

> Is the Liberace museum actually worth it?

Actually yes, imao. It's not something that you will want to do over
and over and over, but it's worth seeing once, or occasionally.

I saw it back in the early 1980's and enjoyed it, and when I saw it
with the DLV group in 1997 it had expanded and changed quite a bit.

> Where is the best place to stay. I've never been before.

I wrote up a discussion on this for the list last year. Rather than
spam it out to all, those who want to see it can find it at:

http://www.geekbabe.com/annie/dlv99list/hotels.txt

In general, I prefer the Stardust and the Riviera, both on the
north end of the Strip.

It looks like we will have quite a few staying at the Imperial Palace
toward the center of the Strip.

Both Stardust and IP have both hotel tower rooms and motel rooms.

It's far too early to get any kind of an accurate head count. I know we
have at least 12-15 "definites" now, but it's still much too early for
even an approximate count. There are countless "maybes".

At about four weeks or so before the event, we'll start to make up a
tentative roster, and to ask all of the "maybes" to confirm.

Since this is a rather informal registration, the actual headcount
and roster won't be known until the opening Friday.

Mailbag:

>Hey, I heard that they had one of those VR simulations in Vegas that
>was good, you know, the boxes on hydraulic stilts with the big

I think what you're talking about is at the Luxor, at the south end of
the strip. There may also be something like this at New York New York
in the Coney Island Arcade. They say that there's also some kind of VR
at the Star Trek thing at the LV Hilton. These would be a good
afternoon diversion.

>I'm also interested in amusement parks if there are any there (yes, I'm
>still a little girl at times).

I don't think there are any amusement parks per se in the LV area, but
there are two indoor "theme parks" that I'm aware of, one in the MGM
grand, and the other at Circus Circus. There are also a few stand-alone
roller coasters (or as they say in Indiana, "rolley coasters" :) in the
area. One is at New York New York, another is 1200' up on the
Stratosphere tower (I will wait on terra firma for those who wanna try
it), and a very large one at Buffalo Bill's, about 30m south of Las
Vegas. Alas, for coaster fans, there are no "woodies" in the area
(RIP Thunderbolt, Long Live Cyclone!).

Mailbag: (insert tongue in cheek :)

>> Rocky Horror Picture Show: Anything goes! (really)
>> (If you're dying to wear something exotic in public, this is it.)

>Can I go in my nightgown? After all, I will be losing my virginity...

Yes. Very appropriate for the "virgin sacrifice".

(For those who are not familiar with Rocky Horror, somebody who has
never seen it in public is referred to as a "virgin".)

>> I will say that I've never been subject to any hassle using any ladies
>> room ever in LV, nor do I know anyone personally who has.

>You might mention that
>it's not a good idea to yell "Wow! My first time in the ladies' room!"
>when GGs are present.

Also, it's a good idea not to stand, and not to make obvious splashing
noises. :) :) :) :) :)

Airport pickup:

I'm willing to pick up anybody who is attending at the airport (or
train/bus station).

I know it's early, but if you will be needing a ride from the airport,
please let me know your:

1. Airline
2. Incoming flight number
3. Scheduled arrival time

... as soon as you book your flight, as I'm already starting to put
together my schedule for that Friday.

Schedule and Events:

We've had another suggestion for a (non-FI) show that the group might
enjoy seeing, "Forever Plaid", playing at the Flamingo. I'm gonna
pencil this in as a possibility for Monday or Tuesday evening, but
nothing here is definite, and probably will not be until May.

* Welcome get-together Friday evening (T-friendly club, 7-ish).

* Driving/walking Strip tour, Saturday afternoon.

* Boylesque (Kenny Kerr) Saturday night, Plaza Hotel, Downtown
  (dark Sunday and Monday).

* Rocky Horror Picture Show. Saturday night (only), after Kenny Kerr.
  (This showing has been confirmed.)

* Hoover Dam tour, some afternoon, possibly Sunday.

* La Cage (Frank Marino Show) Sunday evening, Riviera (dark Saturday).

* Trip to Rhyolite, some morning/afternoon.

* Legends In Concert, Monday Evening, Imperial Palace (dark Sunday)

* Forever Plaid, Tuesday Evening, Flamingo.

* Shopping excursions, any afternoon.

This year we have a travel agent who is available to help you with your
air and other arrangements. She has worked with the T* community and
her agency is very T-friendly. Please feel free to phone or e-mail
her with your travel requests and questions. I've filled her in on
what the event is and what you will be looking for, such as low-cost
round-trip airfare and possibly air-hotel deals.

Her name is Jade Nebiker, and her agency is Dream Catcher Travel.

Door Prizes:

As we did last year, we're soliciting donations of small items to be
given to the lucky (??) winners of a drawing. These can be useful in
nature, or humorous. Last year we had such things as an Epilady, a
home electrolysis unit, and some jewelry items.

We've had a couple responses on this already, so this may be a bit
more of a big deal this year.

If you wish to donate a prize, please write to dlv99@geekbabe.com
and describe your donation, and state if you want your donation to
be in your name or anonymous.
