Subject: dlv99 Corrections, clarifications, more info ...

Only 63 days left, gang!
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
From now on, we'll send out this list when the need dictates, rather
than sticking to a strict weekly schedule. As the date approaches, I
think it will serve everybody better.
Clarification and correction:
Sorry if I freaked out anybody with the notice that some of the popular
places were sold out. That info came from somebody who was using one of
the online reservations services (lvrs.com), which acts as an agent for
some properties, and a broker/wholesaler for some others. Turns out
that both Imperial Palace and Palace Station (motel) still have
vacancies for the DLV weekend, but lvrs.com has exhausted their quota
for both of them.
Hint: If you find your favorite hotel is sold out, check both with the
hotel reservation line directly, AND travel agents and room brokers.
You will often find that a room is still available, even though some
sources will not be able to get it for you.
Another hint: Don't procrastinate! :)

>I'm really bummed. Thanks for info regarding the the Stardust. To put
>it in a nutshell that was the place I would have felt the most secure
>and safe being enfem. Perfect area for a quick entrance and return in
>the older part behind the main Hotel.
I hear ya! I'm disappointed too, but I'm not gonna let it spoil the
trip. It's a good excuse to get a tower room. :)
Stardust still has the Villa area (the old Royal Nevada Hotel) toward
the south end of the property near the shops. It's larger and nicer
motel type rooms. You do have a hallway, but no elevator or guard.
>Question. Any good safe places for a beginner you're aware of.
If you want a motor-inn type room, I know they still have them at the
Imperial Palace (we have people staying there), Palace Station (we have
people there too), Tropicana (reported to be GLBT-friendly), Westward
Ho (the world's largest motel), as well as countless nice (and not so
nice :) motels up and down the Strip and just off Strip.
We *know* the IP is t-friendly, as they had to put up with groups of us
several times at the restaurants, the bar, and the tables the past two
years. (I'm sure Margeth will relate the anecdote of the room-service
dude. :)
>Has anyone stayed at the RIO.
No, but I heard the new tower is very nice! Maybe somebody else who
reads this has and can fill us in.
>Has anybody ever called to see if it is permissable there?
I don't think anybody ever asked permission of any hotel. I didn't
think anybody needed permission! (Permission to do what?) :) :) :)
IMAO, as long as you pay your bill, don't trash the place, and behave
as a lady or gentleman (or both), you don't need permission from the
management to engage in any lawful activity.
>I'd call but I very nervous about doing it.
They can't bite your head off over the phone. The absolute worst that
can happen is that they (a reservations agent?) will suggest you take
your business elsewhere.
>Again the theme for the RIO might entail CD'ing versus any other
>theme's out there. Maybe there really cool on it, maybe not.
Check out the page: ...
http://www.intermind.net/theta/Pic1.html
.... you may notice some familiar faces. :) I'm sure it will also
answer your question about the Rio being t-friendly. :)
>I get free rooms at the Stratospere, RIO and Stardust but I'd stay
>anywhere on the strip if I felt secure enough.
Members of the group have visited and played at the Strat without any
trouble. I've never stayed there.
>Please help, I want to attend however now I'm bummed about the room
>situation.
It's ok to be bummed, but, imao, you should put that behind you and
step forward. You have a choice between familiarity (Stardust tower,
Strat, Rio) or a property that's more discreet (Westward Ho, Tropicana)
but unknown. Decide which is more important to you, and phone in a
reservation ASAP, while you still have a wide variety of options.
>Westward Ho in my opinion is a pitty place but like you said the rooms
>are cheap enough and adquate. Long walk to the main hotel area should
>they place a way's back.
Westward Ho is known as a "Grind Joint", or a haven for low-rollers,
with cheap rooms, low minimum games, low denomination slots, lotsa
specials and cheap (arguably edible) food. Andrea reports that the room
was surprisingly good. She stayed there about two weeks ago. This may
be a very good compromise for you, since you know the immediate area,
and since it has drive-up motel rooms.
>Again I believe you need to walk through the casino to get in and out.
They probably WANT you to walk through the casino (and stay, and play),
but it's hard to DRIVE through it. There is a driveway on the side.
I'm sure nobody will stop you from using it on foot.
If you're still a bit uneasy, check some of the back mailings at
http://www.geekbabe.com/annie/dlv99list/ and you will see countless
reports of our people staying almost everywhere with no hassles at all.

Rooms:
So far we have people staying at Riviera, Stardust, Westward Ho,
Imperial Palace, Ramada Vacation Resort, Blair House, Palace
Station, and Sahara.
Sahara is advertising $39 per night through May. Mention you saw
the ad in the LA Times when you phone in your reservation.

Transportation:
>... I will be staying at the Palace Station which on the map I just
>looked at is apparently in Guam, but cheap... I just hope it isn't too
>much of a pain in the arse to schlep over there after various
>festivities...
Palace Station is actually not too bad, either for facilities or
location. It's less than a 5 minute drive to the Stardust and the north
Strip area.
However (PLEASE READ) will the people who will definitely be needing
transportation to and from most of the various events please send me
a short note (just hit reply to this) so I can get some kind of an
approximate headcount. I have a reservation in for a full-size (five
passenger) car, but I'm thinking it might be a good idea to change
that to a van if it looks like we will need that much room. TIA :)

>Can you give me a bit of advance warning? What is the experience
>level of the girls attending? Have they been out much before? I'm
>a total novice, have't really been out at all, and I don't want
>to look out of place? Also, will there be anybody who can help
>me with style and makeup? Thanks.
As far as "experience", the people signed up so far run the range
from full-time fully-transitioned, to those who have never been in
public before while (dare I say it) "dressed".
You will be able to get more advice and help from the others than
you will be able to use. :) You can also get volunteer help with
makeup from the others, or a professional makeover if you want.
If you have never been out interacting with the public, I would
suggest this: Over the next month, study women who are about your
age and build. Observe how they dress, outfits, accessories, etc.,
under various circumstances. Concentrate on the everyday, not just
the dress-up activities. That should be a good starting point on
how you should dress and accessorize at first.

Don't dream it, be it!
Wendy has a suggestion for all of us. She would like to see if others
would like to attend the Rocky Horror Picture Show (already on our
schedule) in costume, dressed and made up as members of the RHPS cast.
For those who already know the film, this will be easy. For those who
don't, or don't know it well, pictures of the cast appear at:
http://www.cs.wvu.edu/~paulr/rhps/rhps-credits.html
I dunno if we could get a complete "cast" together, but I'm sure we can
get some of the characters represented quite accurately.
I'll commit to this. If there's any interest from you, I'll do the
character of Magenta (a domestic), unless somebody else *really* wants
to do her.
If you're interested in this, just hit reply and write a short note
stating which character(s) you think you might wanna play.
(For those who have never seen this, it is quite common for those in
the audience to be dressed as cast members.)
Basic information on RHPS appears at:
... and many other sites.

Door Prizes:
As we did last year, we're soliciting donations of small items to be
given to the lucky (??) winners of a drawing. These can be useful in
nature, or humorous. Last year we had such things as an Epilady, a
home electrolysis unit, and some jewelry items.
We've had a couple responses on this already, so this may be a bit
more of a big deal this year.
If you wish to donate a prize, please write to dlv99@geekbabe.com
and describe your donation, and state if you want your donation to
be in your name or anonymous.
