Only 66 days left, gang!
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
60 day in advance prices expire this week!

Important Stardust notice:

Stardust has moved up its construction schedule and will be closing all
the motor inn rooms in April. If you already made reservations for
motel rooms directly through the hotel, or through some agencies who
work directly with the Stardust, you will be upgraded to a villa or
tower room at the same price.

However, some agencies and aggregators are (still) writing reservations
for accommodations that will not be there in May. If you booked through
a travel agent or aggregator, be sure to check with them to be sure
that your reservation will be honored.

Stardust does still have rooms available for the entire DLV period, but
not at the (lower) motel rates.

Westward Ho:

Andrea reports that the motel rooms at Westward Ho, just north of the
Stardust, are actually quite decent, so that may be an alternative for
those who want lower-priced on-strip motel-type accommodations.

Riviera:

On a related note, Riviera is now sold out for Friday and Saturday of
the DLV weekend.

Food:

>Where are we going to be eating? Will we be eating as a group?

Everybody's on one's own for food. We have no dinners, banquets, etc.
planned. If somebody wants to take the initiative to plan one, I'm all
for it, as long as time, place, price, and type of food are acceptable
to most. (Please keep in mind that the Saturday evening schedule is now
about as full as it can get.)

I think it's safe to say, however, that many of our group will eat some
meals with others of the group.

Last year, it was mostly hotel coffee shops and buffets for most of the
meals, as well as several early breakfasts at one of the t-friendly
lounges.

For the most part, food is very reasonable in Las Vegas, and there is
enough variety to please even the pickiest. Just don't expect haute
cuisine from most hotel buffets. :)

Internet access in LV:

>I keep hearing about the Internet Cafe in Vegas. Do you know about
>it? I just want to be able to check my mail a couple of times
>while I'm there.

If you're referring to the Cyber City Cafe, it has closed. :(

It was kind of an interesting place (and t-friendly), but it was not
cheap.

Kinkos Copies on Maryland supposedly has public-access machines. I
don't know how much, though. They tell me that the public libraries
also have them, but you must have a local library card to use them.

If you just wanna check mail, I'm sure there will be people at DLV
who have laptops who will help you out.

New Las Vegas Webcam:

Imperial Palace (mid Strip) webcams. This was just installed last week.
Four views, including inside the casino and the sidewalk on the Strip
outside the IP. If you stand there, you are on the web!

Mailbag:

>About how many people are coming?

This is becoming the most frequently asked question. Still far too
early to get even an approximate head count. Last year, almost
everybody signed up within the last month, but this year we have 18
who are definite so far, with over two months to go. We have
countless people who are "maybe".

With our informal "registration" process, it will be very hard to
get any kind of accurate count until the week of the event.

>Is anyone from Denver coming?

Uh, I'm not sure off hand. Ladies ... ??

>And where is the best place to stay?

So far we have people staying at Riviera, Stardust, Westward Ho,
Imperial Palace, Ramada Vacation Resort, Blair House and Palace
Station. Look at ...

... for a discussion of a few places. Also look at the archives of

Mailbag:

>Annie,

>I have returned from Las Vegas (in other words I didn't hit the BIG
>ONE!) and spent 2.5 days en femme. One day on the strip and 1.5 days
>downtown. I had no problems and had a great time. We stayed at the
>Golden Nugget downtown and would highly recommend the rooms there.

>Cheryl

Again, this is what we keep hearing. :) I've never stayed at the GN
but I know it's very nice. Now only if their buffet line was not
so {expletive} long!

Roommate wanted:

Andrea from El Paso is interested in sharing a room.

> I would like a roomie for DLV '99, if one becomes available. My main
> concerns are a non smoker or someone who would not smoke in the room.

Those interested can contact Andrea at: ascott@primenet.com

Door Prizes:

As we did last year, we're soliciting donations of small items to be
given to the lucky (??) winners of a drawing. These can be useful in
nature, or humorous. Last year we had such things as an Epilady, a
home electrolysis unit, and some jewelry items.

We've had a couple responses on this already, so this may be a bit
more of a big deal this year.

If you wish to donate a prize, please write to dlv99@geekbabe.com
and describe your donation, and state if you want your donation to
be in your name or anonymous.
