Only 50 days left, gang!
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Wow, seems like just after I send out a mailing, the floodgates open
and all kinds of stuff comes in. Hope I'm not overwhelming (or boring)
anybody ...

LA Times Hotel Deals:

The LA Times hotel specials are starting to include the dates for
DLV, so I will copy them from Usenet into the list archive directory.
Look at the url:

http://www.geekbabe.com/annie/dlv99list/

... and the files beginning with "lat". You do not have to live in
LA to get these deals, but you must mention that you saw the ad in
the LA Times when you reserve your room.

Show reservations:

>I've noticed a few references to reserving tickets for the FI shows on
>your DLV mailings. Is this something I should be doing if I want to go
>to one or both of them?

You can if you want, but most likely will not be necessary. If you want
to reserve in advance, you can go ahead and do it. We will be attending
the earlier show of Boylesque on Saturday and the later show of La Cage
on Sunday.

Some shows will not accept reservations more than {mumble} days in
advance.

What we've done the past two years is to get an accurate headcount
and phoned in a reservation early in the day for the number of people
that will be attending with the group. We'll be doing this again
this year.

>What (if any) of the other suggested/scheduled activities need
>reservations?

The other two tentative shows may need them, but those can be made
the morning of the show. If there are any others that need something
in advance, we will take a headcount at the Friday get-together.

Mailbag:

>Since I have neer been public before as jamie I feel this would be a
>great place to start.

Actually, many people feel this way, they can test the water, and
start at their own comfortable rate.

>I would like to know about more info regarding makeup, and other
>learning oppertunities while staying for the weekend.

As far as makeup, there will be two kinds of opportunities. One is to
have one or more professional makeovers done. There will be a few
different options for this.

What will be quite valuable, however, will be the advice and feedback
from the others, ranging from those who just peeking out of the closet
to those who are post-transition, full time.

There will be more advice given than anybody could possibly use. :)

>There Is another outing going on arround the same time and I have to
>decide which one to attend. I live in Oregon and the other one is Port
>Angeles,Wa. I have been dressing for a long time but have just recently
>came out to wife and she love's myself as Jamie.

This one is Esprit and we will have people here on the list who will be
attending both.

Diva Las Vegas is a vacation. Esprit and the others (Southern Comfort,
Fall Harvest, Colorado Gold Rush) are conventions, mostly appearing as
mini-clones of Fantasia Fair (Provincetown). DLV is one of a kind, and
happens once per year, the conventions average one per month or so,
with a huge bolus of them in the fall, and a few clusters in the
spring.

Any opinion I would give you on choosing one over the other would be
very biased. :)

>i think i would feel safer in Las Vegas since i have people I know in
>Port Angeles.

One reason many people like Las Vegas is it's easy to get lost in the
fun and festivities. Everybody's doing their own thing, and not really
paying attention to what the other person is doing. One person who came
out for the first time at DLV97 remarked to the effect that it was so
far away from home, NOBODY would know her there.

Mailbag:

>Annie, say, I'm going to be buying a lot of the stuff I'll be wearing
>that week, since whT I've been wearing in private isn't good for
>public if you know what I mean. Can you reccommend a friendly shop
>for the following: Shoes, Wigs, Lingerie, Makeup, Dresses? Thanx!

Yes to all of them. I might simply suggest the malls, both mainline and
discount, for most of the above. There are private shoe, wig, and
lingerie shops that invite t-business. (It's my theory that wig shops
that are not t-friendly go out of business. :) As for makeup, many
options, including a t-friendly Mary Kay lady who will sell you more
than you can ever use.

One thing to remember is that Las Vegas is a "show town", and it is
common for males to purchase such things as cosmetics and womens items.
The salespeople have seen it over and over so many times, that you will
not stand out at all.

Circus:

>>I've
>>also been told that the Circus properties (Circus-Circus, Luxor,
>>Excalibur) will as well, but these may not be as t-friendly as you
>>would like.
[munch!]
>>Only property reputed to be non-t-friendly is Circus-Circus, but I've
>>heard two versions of the story, and received another report of a t*
>>who was treated well there.
[chomp!]
>
>You keep telling us that.
>Are you allowed to tell the story?

Uh, I don't think I need permission to tell the story, or rather both
versions of it. You are the first to ask, really.

Here are the two versions, Readers Digest versions, of course.

Version 1: Ms Mild Mannered CD'er was sitting playing a slot machine
and minding her own business. Big Guido-type security goon comes up,
asks her to leave, and follows her out the door.

Version 2: Ms Very Nervous CD'er is confronted by {somebody}, panics,
runs into ladies room, locks herself in stall, creates a fuss, and
refuses to come out. Security guard finally talks her out and suggests
that she go somewhere {else} to relax a while.

I wasn't there, so I don't know for sure. Maybe one of the local LV
ladies can comment.

>Does this mean we're not allowed in Circus Circus?

IMAO, no strip property is gonna refuse to serve anybody who is
presentable, behaves as a lady or gentleman, and has $$$$$ to spend.

YMMV as to how you are treated, as it does when in boymode as well.
Some properties are reputed to be very friendly places to stay and
play, some to be snobbish, some to be inconsistent.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Yet More Circus:

>> also been told that the Circus properties (Circus-Circus, Luxor,
>> Excalibur) will as well, but these may not be as t-friendly as you

>I've stayed at Excalibur on three different occasions and been dressed
>there quite often and never had a problem except for a waitress calling
>me "sir" or at least I think she did!?

Yes, the "S-word". :(

>I've been to Luxor dressed and didn't have a problem there either.

Thanks for the feedback. It appears that just about every one of the
major Strip properties is tolerant to at least some degree.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
T-shirts:

>>I made a prototype of these last week and wore it to a party last
>>night and got a number of compliments. These are gonna look
>>quite nice.

>Do you actually make these yourself?

Actually, yes. Well, uh, I do the artwork and printing myself, I buy
the blank shirts already woven, died, and sewn. :) :)

>Is that your line of work?

Nope! :)

>Can you buy one of these in advance of the big shindig?

Well, they aren't for sale at any price. :) I was actually offered $50
for a DLV97 shirt last year, but all I made had been spoken for.

Here's what I've been doing for the past 2 years, and I'm certainly
open to discussion and persuasion. I started making these kind of an
incentive to go to DLV, and to return. I've offered them to those who
attended in 1997 and 1998 and required that they be picked up in
person at the next year's event. Since it looks like from now on, there
will be no problem getting lots of people at DLV, it may be time to
change this.

I do these piecemeal, so they are a very limited edition. They are not
really that hard to do. (The artwork is the difficult part, and the
technique takes a while to avoid getting ink all over the place.)

We can discuss the shirt issue at DLV if anybody wants.
