Only 39 days left, gang!
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Things are moving right along. Schedule is getting more solid and we've
had a couple more definite attendees and a whole crowd of maybes. This
one is gonna be a goodie, gang. :)

Makeovers:

There will be at least two options available. One will be a t-friendly
Mary Kay lady, the other a local salon located very close to a night-
spot that's been popular with our group. Names and contact info will be
given to those attending.

Hoover Dam Tour:

This has been confirmed for Sunday afternoon. This is a personal guided
tour that is more extensive than the "Hard Hat" tour that is offered to
the general public. I highly recommend this. I enjoyed it last year and
plan to go again this year!

One condition though: Boymode dress is requested for the Hoover Dam
tour. Our guide is aware of who we are and what we are, but this has
been requested since this will cover otherwise restricted areas of
government property.

There is no charge for the tour, but please buy our guide a drink!
(Admission to the public hard-hat tour is around $25.00.)

If anybody wants to see the pictures from this tour last year, please
e-mail me and I'll send you the url.

Fare Wars !!!

Media have been reporting a so-called air fare war. There's good news
and bad news on that. Good news is that in some cases, some air fares
are quite low. Bad news is that most of the lowest "war" fares are
blacked out for Thursday and Friday departures to some popular places
such as Las Vegas.

More room rate stuff:

There have been more reports in the LV mailing lists and newsgroups of
deceptive advertising and rate gouging on weekends. Please read all
fine print in any ad carefully, and question any reservation or travel
agent if they do not clearly state the actual rate you will be paying.

>You're completely right about hotel reservations tightening up for that
>weekend. I'm a (low-rolling) member of the players' clubs at Treasure
>Island and at Caesar's. Even though TI sent me a letter offering me 3
>free nights, they wouldn't honor it for that weekend, saying that they
>were getting very full. Caesar's offered me a slightly reduced rate for
>Friday and Saturday, but said they were full on Sunday and Monday.

Quick check of rates and availability shows Texas Station (North Las
Vegas, not too far out if you have a car) lowest at $32/$55 (weekday/
weekend), with Four Queens (downtown) $29/$59 and Lady Luck (downtown)
$39/$59 close behind. Sahara $39/$85 is currently the lowest of the
big Strip places, with LA Times still showing $39, but I don't know if
they will honor that price on weekends. Stardust still has rooms for
that time at $59/$95.

I think a cautionary warning to all is in order in light of the
reports. Be sure you have a confirmed reservation for Friday and
Saturday nights before you leave home. It takes only a few minutes to
phone a travel agent or 1-800 hotel reservations line. Don't expect the
above rates as a walk-in on Friday afternoon.

If history repeats itself, a number of you will be making the decision
to attend shortly before the event. Remember to make that reservation!
