>Regarding Saturday night activities (Boylesque and Rock Horror), would
>you recommend driving or taking a cab to the Plaza Hotel? What is
>parking like in the Fremont St area?
I prefer to drive in LV, but ...
Fremont Street area parking is awful, IMAO, and I think it's one reason
the area still lacks, compared to the strip. Properties are soooooo
paranoid that you will park in their lot and play elsewhere, it's a
vicious cycle. :(
Plaza is not as bad as most, however. There is a large self-park lot
to the south of the hotel. However, I recommend their valet parking.
Just drive up on the circle drive at Main and Fremont.
I still think I would rather drive than taxi to downtown.
>Would you recommend driving or taking a cab to Rocky Horror? What is
>parking like around the theater?
I would drive. This is way east on Tropicana. Large lot, IIRC.
>And, finally, the most important question, what is your impression
>about the ability to catch a cab at 2 AM when Rock Horror is over?
Las Vegas is a 24 hour town. Yes, you can always get a taxi, as well as
almost anything else that $$$ can buy. :)
If you are not too keen on driving en femme, there will certainly be
people you can ride with. Where are you staying? I will most likely
have a van for Friday thru Sunday, so there shouldn't be any problem
getting everybody from one place to another.

Mailbag:
>Help me out here if you can, and please I hope I'm not being too much of
>a bother to you. I've never been out in public before, I've never been
>out of my appartment before even, and I'm trying to decide if I've got
>the guts to do this next month.
You're not being a bother at all, really ... :)
For the past two years, we've had people who had never been out before.
>I've got some questions and concerns here.
>1. I'm on a restricted diet. I've got to watch fats and sugars. What
>is the food like, and what are the options?
Everybody's on their own for food, although I think many will be eating
in informal groups.
Most every hotel will have a buffet, and most of them will have a wide
selection of salads and fruits as well as the pig-out fare. All hotels
will have a coffee shop with lighter selections along with the usual
steak and fries staples. Many hotels will have a so-called gourmet room
with lighter trendy selections along with the usual Filet de Boeuf aux
Pommes Fritte staples. :)
There are countless independent restaurants of every type. Every chain
known to humanity is in Las Vegas as well.
>2. I honestly don't know if I can pass or not.
If Tammy Fay Bakker can pass, so can you! Passing is 90% attitude.
>I'm real nervous about
>going out in broad daylight in public. Can anybody there give me an
>honest assessment and opinion if I'm really ready?
It's ok to be nervous. Remember, it doesn't last long. :) Yes, you
will get more advice and feedback than you ever wanted.
If you're really unsure, here is an option. Start out in boymode, get
to know some of the others. Then get some volunteer assistance or a
professional makeover in advance of one of the FI shows. Ask the others
to coach and critique as necessary.
Another option would be to test the water at one of the late-night
get-togethers at a t-friendly club. Nobody there will bite.
>3. I'll need some help on wardrobe and stuff. I know what I like,
>and I'm not sure if what I like will look passible in public.
Again, I'm sure you can get more advice and help on this than you can
ever digest in one weekend. I suggest you bring along what you think
will be appropriate. For the clubs and shows, you will see everything
from casual to dressy.
>4. I can't afford to have any publicity where my name or picture. Are
>you being covered by any TV or newspaper reporters? Have they picked
>up on this yet?
No publicity is planned, and I think all of us want to keep it that
way. This is a very small activity for Las Vegas, and only the very
largest conventions get any media coverage. Even the major T*
activities such as Fanfair get little if any interest from the media.
>Are there going to be any photographers there?
If you mean news photographers. No.
If you mean portrait photographers, the local Glamour Shots is an
option for that and for makeovers. They are t-friendly.
Most likely the only ones taking pictures will be the individuals with
cameras. I know I will be taking pictures, but it's quite OK to tell me
or anybody else to avoid including you in their pictures. At some
showrooms, a photographer will take a picture of each table or booth at
each performance. You can likewise feel free to ask them to not include
you.
I'll be doing a web page summary of the event, including photos. If you
do not wish to appear (somebody requested this in 1998) just say so and
I'll be sure you are excluded.

Hotel rates:
Here are some of the latest reasonable advertised rates for the decent
places that have vacancies that weekend. Price == $weekday/$weekend
Sahara (north Strip) $39, does not exclude weekends, but YMMV.
Showboat (near downtown) $39/49
Tropicana (south Strip) $45 does not exclude weekends, but YMMV.
Circus Circus $59 (Tower) $39 (Manor) does not exclude yadda yadda ...
Plaza (downtown) $25/$40
Stratosphere (far north Strip) $59 Sunday thru Wednesday arrival
Maxim (off strip at Flamingo) $39/$59
Bally's (center Strip) $65 does not exclude weekends, but YMMV.
Rio (off Strip) $65 does not exclude weekends, but YMMV.
For absolute lowball prices for decent rooms, if you don't mind driving
30+ miles each way, the three Primm Valley hotels (Primm Valley Resort,
Whiskey Pete's, Buffalo Bill's, all at the California state line) are
now quoting $18 per night. They do not specifically exclude weekends
but ... and so on and so on and scooby doobie do.

Air update:
Delta is offering $198 roundtrip to Las Vegas from several cities, and
the dates around DLV are included in this rate. I don't remember all
the cities, but BNA (Nashville) and BWI (Baltimore-Washington) were
included. This is a very good rate, especially this close.
