Only 16 days left, gang!

Pre-DLV:
We're going to have a number of people there early, and it's been
suggested (multiple times) that we have a pre-DLV get-together for
those who will be in early.
Let's plan this for Thursday evening. Those who are interested, please
give me a phone call or page (numbers will be given out the week of the
event) and we'll work out the details.
There have been a couple suggestions on what to do and where to go,
but I think it may be a bit premature to plan for that now. Let's make
specific plans when the date approaches.

Sahara info:
>From a conversation ...
>>We're booked into the short tower at the Sahara for the entire trip ( 6
>>nights). We've never stayed at Sahara before but we've been there a
>>time or two since they remodeled, and it seems nice enough considering
>>the price ($28 mid-week, $55 weekends). We could stay in the taller
>>tower for $10 more per night. Does anyone know of any reasons why I
>>should change our reservation to the tall tower( short tower rooms
>>vastly inferior, inconvenient to get to the pool, casino, parking lot
>>etc)
>I've stayed in both rooms...the $28 ones and the one for $10 more. I
>found the rooms to be exactly the same. I opted to try the newer room
>last trip, but went back to the $28 room this trip. We went up the
>same elevators. The towers were just at different ends of the bank of
>elevators. I found the only real difference to be the view of the
>Strip. I've seen the Strip, so that was no biggy. There does seem to
>be a third tower near the people who bug you to buy a time share, but
>I'm not sure what those rooms are all about. I believe the pool is
>right there, as well.

Mailbag:
Denise writes:

The other major property in that area is Vacation Village. I don't think
we've got anybody staying there (yet). Silverton is currently showing
the lowest rates of any of the reasonably nice places that have vacancies
for the DLV weekend. Only disadvantage is that it is WAAAYYYyyyyy south
of the main strip area.

They tell me (the ubiquitous "they") that wedding dresses can be picked
up for a song and a dance at the various thrift shops along Main St.
That may be an option for anybody who wants to do the Betty Monroe
character. A previous mailing gave other area suggestions for thrift
shops.

Hotel deals:
This week's LA Times Hotel ads show some good rates for various hotels
for the DLV period. http://www.geekbabe.com/annie/dlv99list/
Look for the files beginning with "lat".
