Stu Rasmussen (b. 1948), aka Carla Fong, is the individual regarded as the first openly Transgender mayor in the United States.
Rasmussen was elected Mayor of Silverton, Oregon in 2009. Rasmussen's gender identity was well known to the constituents at the time of election. Rasmussen served as City Council member of Silverton prior to the mayoral election.
Rasmussen is regarded as being fiscally moderate and socially progressive.
