Its a nice idea, but I don't quite see how this charity thing can help
reduce negative publicity or help DLV specifically or in general.
Even if we got 175 of us to donate $25, the total is $4375.
$4375 is $4375 and to a individual like me, its a lot of money for a
donation, but isn't very much in comparison to recognized donations from
service organizations that have fund raising events and collectively
give 10s of thousands.
It may end up with a thank you letter to Annie or whomever organizes
this, or DLV listed on some plaque or some paper document, or listed in
the local paper or newsletter amongst many others who have donated
monies.
People that see this name on a list may see it as only a name amongst
other names. They have no clue to what DLV is about.
Do we wear and wave that donation like a badge to every venue we use and
expect differential or better treatment or respect? ie " DLV, that
donated $4375 to xxxxxx in 2009."
Who collects the money and how do we ensure that money in its entirety
is donated and not pocketed partially or the whole by someone. Money
collection holding has always been a problem for us and any
organization.
Who determines which charitable organization to give the money to that
will improve our image the most? We hare having a hard enough time with
setting our annual date!
If we do this, then DLV moves into the direction to become a community
service organization. Do we have to declare or register DLV as a
non-profit organization because of the amount of money collected and
donation?
I feel we are doing enough good public relations by having successful
events in mainstream places like Bahama Breeze.
I'm not sure if we are going in a different direction from the
simplicity of what DLV was originally designed for, which is focused on
being a vacation.
