>>>>and I got what I would call a very "cool" reception,

>>>I don't think anybody goes there anymore. They hiked their prices
[bobbitt]
>>That's too bad. I hate to see an independent store fail, but if value,
>>selection, and of course, attitude are not there, customers will go
>>elsewhere.
>Hey, it's New York Shoes, and you get a New York Attitude!
I dunno if I would call it that, but I do believe that we (the t*
community) are an important part of many businesses. I've semi-jokingly
said that any wig shop that is not t-friendly will soon go out of
business. Look around, 95% of the wig shops out there will not only
tolerate us, but will welcome and encourage our business.
I think the same would apply to any shoe shop that specialized in the
larger sizes and the styles that are popular with our community. They
must know that t's will constitute a significant portion of their
customer base. We've also become much more consumer-savvy over the past
several years. If a firm will not give us the value and attitude we
want, we will look elsewhere.

>>>Hi, Just want to say thanks for getting the {Fall Harvest}
>>>pictures up so soon. They are Great!
>>Thanks and you're very welcome. I hope you (and everybody) did not
>>miss the various DLV pages as well.
>I looked at the Web, and I take that to mean your going to be
>taking lots of pictures again.
Yes, I and others will most likely take quite a few. Why? Because
we like them. :) Most everybody likes them. (Ooooooh, lemme see!)
>What's the policy on pictures?
No formal policy. Respect others' wishes and use common sense and good
taste.
>Can you opt-out of them?
Most definitely. If you don't want to be photographed, tell anybody
with a camera not to include you. What I tell people is if they see me
pointing the camera at them, point to me with a raised finger or use
the pilot's wave to get my attention.
>Are you planning press/media coverage?
No, and I think all of us prefer it that way. What we do is not really
newsworthy at all. By Las Vegas standards, we have a very small group,
and only the largest of the large gatherings (Comdex, etc.) get any
media attention. Our theme (TG) is not at all new for LV, so it will
not attract any news coverage.

Schedule:
>I just had this horrible revelation that the proposed dates are over
>Mother's day Weekend.
I wasn't aware of this, but if it is, this will then be the third year
that DLV has coincidentally fallen over the Mothers Day weekend.
>This is bad.
For some, yes, it may be.
>Any chance for one weekend either way?
There is always a chance, and if there is enough demand, we can do a
call for votes.
My personal preference is to keep things as is, but I'm not everybody.
We discussed this prior to DLV 1998, which did fall on the Mothers Day
weekend. I can probably find the archives if necessary, but the
conclusion was that any given weekend will be bad for a certain
percentage of potential attendees, and the benefit of having it right
after the Networld+Interop conference outweighed the inconvenience of
having it over the Mothers Day weekend.
We also had a similar discussion in 1998 as to moving it two weeks to
sync with a B&D event at the Tropicana.
I think it's important that we do any discussion, voting if necessary,
and adjustment without hesitation, and put the schedule issue to bed
(again) by the middle of December. It's also important for any people
who are planning to attend both DLV and Networld+Interop, particularly
those traveling great distances, to get their two cents in, since this
has been one of our main scheduling points.
I'm also aware that there will be potentially serious downsides for
some people, since some people have already made plans around the
planned dates.
I'm aware of one couple who's chosen classes such that the final
exams will not conflict with DLV. Moving DLV one week earlier will
effectively lock them out of attending, due to finals.
Moving DLV one week later will likewise lock out those who are planning
to attend DLV as an extension to Networld+Interop.
In any case, I want to go through any needed discussion, votes, etc.
without any protraction or hesitation, so we can put the issue to rest
and allow everybody to make plans that do not have to be changed.
