Feast or Famine:

Wow, a few weeks ago I thought this list had just about dried up. This
week it's been swamped, with lots of good discussion. Needless to say,
it's going out mid-week again.

Oh, if anybody is interested, the (very) preliminary posting of the
pictures from last week's Fall Harvest is now on line. Follow link at:

http://www.geekbabe.com/annie/fh.html
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Some comments:

>Just wanted to comment on some things.

Ok, that's what the list is here for. :)

>> Fall Harvest 1999:
>>
>> For those of you who made it to Fall Harvest, I hope you enjoyed it as
>> much as I did. :)

>I wish I could have!!

I wish you could have too. This one was one of the better ones in recent
memory. I know I get cynical about t* conventions at times, but I really
enjoyed it this time.

>> Transportation:
[munch]
>I would be happy to help drive if the need arises. Two things could
>preclude this from happening. One, I don't drive to and from clubs as
>I drink and two, since I did one time, I will have to see if I even
>have a license then.

I hope things work out for you there. I have to watch it too, and I try
to wait a while after the last drink before heading out on the road.
We also have to remember that Henderson is a 45 minute round trip. :) :)

>>Again, RHPS is optional, and as has been said many times, it's not for
[bobbitt]
>Well I'll be there! If for nothing else to make sure Pooh isn't being
>unfaithful!!! Hmmm...wonder what Tiggers doing that night?

RHPS has been mentioned before, and I'm sure if the cast is still doing
their thing on Saturday, we'll have a group going again, with plenty of
virgins. :)

>> >Concerning a meeting room. I think it is a very good idea.
[snip]
>> 1. There will have to be a demonstrated demand for it, both by those
>> who say they want it, and those who put their money where their mouths
[clip]
>Well if there is I might be able to help here. I will check into a room
>at the IP for Friday and Saturday nights. I could pay for them up
>front and take donations from those who could affor it to offset the
>cost.

You might check into how much one of their suites will be, and if the
demand is there, pass the hat, to keep it within reason for you. You
may end up getting a very nice place to stay, at the price of a motel
room.

Thanks for volunteering. :)

I was talking to another person on this list at last week's Fall
Harvest, and I remember that Imperial Palace was mentioned as a good
place to try to get a concensus on. It's centrally located, reasonably
priced, and we know it to be t-friendly. Only real downside is that
it's in an area of the Strip that gets VERY congested with both people
and traffic on the weekends, but the same can be said for many other
places.

>The great thing about the old motel at the IP is that it is adjacent to
>the parking garage and is easy to come and go as one pleases without

>go.

[chomp]
>> 3. Somebody will have to volunteer to be the keeper of the room, to
>> open it when necessary, to be sure it is closed, etc.

>I would need some help in this department. Maybe another house Mom or
>something.

Ok, let's put the word out. Any volunteers?

>I would also want to have some activities..like maybe a time
>out! (for those that are spending too much time there) maybe a mini
>excursion on the strip to bolster courage (nothing a little galiano
>won't take care of).

Then plan it, and go for it! :) (Galiano optional!)

>>>Where to stay? I like a place such as the Comfort Inn on Koval.

>Check out the old motel at the IP! Great way to have your choice of
>comings and goings.

There are a number of places that (still) have "garden" or motel-type
buildings as well as towers. Alas, it appears that the Stardust's four
large motel buildings will get the wrecking ball before DLV2k. Stardust
does still have the Villa (old Royal Nevada Hotel, originally a
separate property) which is a two-story motor inn type structure. IP
has a multi-story motor inn behind the tower, and Tropicana and Palace
Station have their "garden" rooms as well.

>> Thursday Evening : Pre-DLV get-together

>Insert possible makeovers here or Friday?

Ok, consider it done. Let's pencil that in on Friday afternoon to get
a larger turnout. I'll try like heck to make contact with our MK people
when I'm out there next month and see if we can schedule that.

>> Monday AM :

>Possible free tour of the Delmar? ;)

Uh, ok, uh, how about YOU set it up. (An offer you SHOULD refuse!)

For those who don't get the significance, this is one place you should
NOT plan to stay. It's a by-the-hour "adult" motel, among many of the
type near the junction of the Strip and Main.

>I for one would love to go golfing!!!! I've got just the skirt!!!

Why don't we maybe pencil this one in as an option for Monday morning
or afternoon. That will most likely be a slow day both on the courses
and with DLV.

>and wil we
>visit our friend at NY Shoes?

Hmmmmm .....

I dunno if I told this to you, but I know I've mentioned it to some.
One of the days right before DLV99, I drove out there to get some
business cards to hand out, and I got what I would call a very "cool"
reception, certainly not like we got in 1998. IIRC, I only handed out
one card, that being at the Friday thing, to somebody who specifically
asked about the place.

Somebody was with me at the time (Bunny? Lisa? both?), so if you think
I read that wrong, please jump in and correct me.

There's another large/wide shoe place that has been advertising
heavily, on the south Strip, IIRC.

>I for one am looking forward to coming this year, as always, and
>hope to see everyone out there.

Yep, I'm looking forward to it too. :)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Accessibility:

>Just a few thoughts regarding our possible going to DLV next year.
>Again, at this point, we really have no clue if we'll be able to afford
>it, and to take the time to go. May is a heavy month for us at work.

And with the model of DLV, you don't have to make a commitment months
in advance, nor put down a registration payment that increases as the
date approaches. If you have to wait until just before May to see if
it will work for you, that will work for us.

One thing I would suggest, however, is to book your air as early as you
can. For the past few years, air prices have dipped sharply in January,
right after the holidays. Three weeks prior to takeoff is where the
gouge-curve starts getting very steep for most airlines. However, last
year there was a mini fare-war in April and May, and prices stayed low
right up to DLV time. (Don't count on this repeating, one person paid
over $700 for her DLV 1997 airfare, more than twice what you should
expect to pay.) Fortunately, air to Las Vegas is usually quite
reasonable from most major airports in the USA.

>In any case, it looks like there is a lot of group activities, and it
>sounds like y'all are doing the van thing. I'm athletic enough that I
>might be able to get in a van (though not in skirts...). Linda would
>never be able to get in a van, without a proper lift. I know it might
>be kinda tough to find/rent/pay for a lift equipped van, especially
>without the assurance that we'd show... In any case, it would be
>somehting for y'all to keep in mind.

What we can do is this ... As soon as you know you are gonna make it
or not, let me know, and if necessary I'll inquire about getting a van
with a lift for the days you will be there. I know one of the major
rental agencies (Alamo?) advertises they have vans with lifts. It is
something we would want to reserve in advance.

>Same thing goes for meeting rooms and places to go out to. Admitedly,
>LV has a good reputation as far as accessibility, in the public at
>large. OTOH, within the disabled community, there is a lot of outcry
>that several hotels aren't all that accessible and aren't inclined to
>be helpful about it.

I know the Stardust has chair-accessible rooms in the tower, and ramps
everywhere. I assume many of the others will too. I've heard some
negative comments about the Riviera and Imperial Palace in this regard,
but these came to me third-hand. Stardust has TONS of reserved spaces
right outside the casino entrance, and others do as well. In most all
cases, the valet parking attendants will assist as necessary.

>Just my 2 cents :-)

... and worth every penny! :) :)

Transportation:

>>>If it would help out, we could drive the van in instead of the car,
>>>and help haul people around, if you want. It's a white Chrysler Town
>>>And Country Van. Seats 6 adults very comfortable. We go with 3 adults
>>>and 4 kids all the time with no trouble.
>
>>Wow, that would be SUPER! Thanks in advance.
>
>>That sounds similar to the van I rented last year, which was a Plymouth
>>Voyager. It had seats for six, but I think we squeezed as many as eight
>>in there once.

>Not only is it similar, it's the same exact vehicle. Your Plymouth
>Voyager, Dodge Caravan, and Chrysler T&C all have the same exact
>chassis and body. Only real difference is trim and dealership.

Hmmmmm.... Interesting, didn't know that.

>Anyway, we wil plan on driving the van, if we can go, that is.

And, thanks in advance, again. :)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
A Dam Good Tour:

... I mean a good dam tour. ... I mean a damn good dam tour! :)

>Is there a chance we can do the Dam Tour again?

Yes, there's a chance of course. :)

>I wouldn't mind
>seeing that again.

Ok, when I'm out there next month, I'll speak to Deb and see if she
can arrange something like that again. If she can't, there's always
the public tours, but those are not as good, and cost real $$$$. :)

Let's pencil this in for Sunday afternoon. Looks like the schedule
is starting to fill up already.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Alternative to RHPS:

>>Again, RHPS is optional, and as has been said many times, it's not for
>>everybody. Personally, I've seen it >50 times, and love it each time.
>>IMAO, it is an acquired taste, kinda like Galiano. :) Those who don't
>>want to do RHPS can go to the clubs or whatever.

>Regarding all the attached, I tend to agree about RHPS not being
>something I would die to see a 2nd time. I would suggest putting up a
>specific alternative activity along with RHPS, specifically Gypsy at
>12 midnight on Saturday.

Ok, consider it done.

>That way, people would already know in advance exactly what is
>available as an alternative. Then, they can plan in advance and
>people don't get left out of a last-minute loop. It also addresses the
>problems of people who have to leave before Tuesday.

Good point, and those who do RHPS can join the group later.

>Since I'm planning to attend DLV, and have been to Gypsy several times
>and want to go again, you could make me a focal point for questions
>that weekend from the non-RHPS crowd.

Thanks for volunteering, we'll take you up on that offer.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Alternative to clubs and bars:

>Can we maybe suggest an alternate adventure for those of us who don't
>like going to clubs/bars? I figure we could throw something together
>when we're there, but I wanted to offer it to the list first and see if
>there was anyone else who felt the same way.

Yes, it's best to plan in advance as much as possible. Things will get
very hectic once the event begins.

Most of the clubbing will be done in the evening and at night, and yes,
there are quite a few alternatives. Las Vegas is a 24*7 town.

On Saturday night, an alternative to the alternative (above) will be
RHPS, but there will be others. Obvious one is to go casino-hopping.

A good evening/night activity is to do the Fremont Street Experience
downtown. On weekends, they will often have a band or other show at
the far end of the closed-off area of Fremont Street.

On the Strip, there's the pirate show at Treasure Island, and the
volcano at the Mirage, not to mention the continuous 24*7 people-
watching on the Strip.

Comments, gang?
