Org List:

This is the DLV 2018 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg_at_divalas.vegas)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.

Moving along:

For those wishing to move things along, this should be the end of
motions and votes for a while, unless someone cares to raise any
additional motions, that is. :)
. . . . .

No actions to set aside, invalidate, re-vote, etc. on the selected dates
were received, so the timeframe of April 15-20, 2018 has been posted as
tentative on the web site.

As is our custom, a one-month Call For Comments on the tentative dates
is open and a notice will be sent out as part of a general mailing this
coming weekend.

Thanks to all for the comments and votes (and patience and
consideration) this year. The carried motion on the floor (see below)
should make the date selection process go smoother in the years to come.
. . . . .

We now move on to the next item on the agenda, rooms and hotels for DLV
2018.

The floor is now open for discussion on hotels, and we encourage all to
comment, and in particular, reflecting personal preferences and your
experiences.

We particularly invite new(er) volunteers to comment, as we do need
input from those who have fewer years of attendance.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Motion vote results:

Votes are in and polls are closed on our motion to add two standing
rules regarding the yearly date selection.

Vote results are:

For: 14
Against: 3
Abstain: 1
Invalid: 1

Last vote was received Sun, 8 Oct 2017 21:10:19 and polls were closed
Tuesday at that time.

One invalid vote was received (see below).

Motion carries.

Hotels and rates:

Cami has been in touch with the CET group sales people regarding special
rates for the coming event and offers this preliminary report.
. . . . .

Cami writes:

I got us some options at Ballys, Harrahs, linqs and Flamingo.

Although Harrahs is a little cheaper I think the accommodations reflect
that, so my suggestion is that we go again with flamingo although I
personally would love to see a switch over to Bally's as it has a
central bar called Sully's that is great to catch up with people pretty
easily.

Dates ---- 4/15 - 4/16 - 4/17 - 4/19 - 4/20 - 4/21 - Average

Bally's -- $69 -- $69 -- $69 -- $69 -- $169 - $169 - ($102.33)
Harrah's - $50 -- $50 -- $50 -- $50 -- $135 - $135 - ($78.33)
Linq ----- $85 -- $85 -- $85 -- $85 -- $85 -- $170 - ($85.00)
Flamingo - $55 -- $55 -- $55 -- $55 -- $55 -- $145 - ($70.00)
. . . . . . . . . .

Annie responds:

First of all, please join me in thanking Cami for taking the initiative
on this! As long as the economy remains strong, hotel rates will remain
high and this helps make DLV more affordable for all!

When the higher nightly rate on Thursday for Harrah's is factored in,
it's not really cheaper. (Somebody check my math, please.) Flamingo is
the one that's lowest of all, and I don't see any reason why we should
not use that as our primary suggested hotel for 2018.

Let's discuss a few items regarding hotels ...

1. Downtown.

We've suggested a downtown hotel for the past three years, namely the
Four Queens. The intent of this has been to suggest one hotel with a
price point that is on the lowest point on the scale, but is still clean
and decent.

It never really caught on. Four Queens has had at most one "hit" on our
post-event survey over the years we've suggested it, and the only
comments I can recall from those staying there are to the effect that
they wished they had picked a place closer to the DLV action.

Likewise, the mentions on the surveys of other hotels in the downtown
areas have been in the very low single digits over the same years.

I'm thinking that it would be best to say that we gave it a good try,
but that downtown hotels don't appear to have the drawing power to our
people to make our suggestions of such worthwhile.

Comments on this one, please! If you've had good luck staying downtown
for DLV, in the first person, please pipe up!

2. Upscale option.

We've always suggested one more upscale hotel, specifically Paris over
the past so many years. Paris has always generated a number of hits on
our survey in the single digits as well, but has always placed higher
on the satisfaction scale.

The only issue with Paris is, yes, it's quite expensive. IIAC the
average nightly rate for self-pay is around $200. I also have the
feeling that a good percentage of our people who stay at Paris are
doing so on casino rate rooms or comp.

Paris is in the same general vicinity as the Flamingo and it's also
become our default after-hours gathering spot, which makes it very
convenient.

Paris fans? Let's hear some comments! What do you think?

3. Flamingo.

No, it ain't the Waldorf, and no, you don't get a mint on the pillow,
but it's clean, comfortable, and not as outrageously priced as most of
those in the area.

For the years we've been using it as our primary suggested hotel, yes,
it **HAS** caught on and for those years the hits on the survey for the
Flamingo have been in the respectable double digits.

I don't see any reason why not to again use Flamingo as our primary
suggested hotel, particularly in light of the best negotiated rates.

4. Bally's.

Cami has suggested Bally's as an option, and I think the only way we're
gonna find out if it will catch on is to try it.

For this year, it's about 40% higher than the Flamingo, but not as
spendy as Paris.

I've stayed in Bally's many times, both for DLV and otherwise, and never
had any issues.
. . . . . . . . . .

Cami continues:

I feel strongly that we should be promoting the flamingo as the primary
place for everyone to stay. Not sure how we can emphasize it stronger.
It just makes more sense that everyone try to stay together.
. . . . . . . . . .

Ok, let's hear some chatter from the infield!

In light of what's been discussed above, I will recommend that we use
Flamingo, Bally's, and Paris as our suggested hotels for DLV 2018.

Thoughts please! :)

Voting status housekeeping item:

Annie writes:

It was reported and confirmed (thanks for being honest!) that one of the
persons receiving the recent ballot was not actually of voting status,
which is defined as being on record for coordinating or assisting with
at least one DLV activity during either of the past two yearly events.

A thorough go-over of the "dlvelect" list indicated that there were a
couple more on the list who should not have been. This was a simple
clerical error.

One vote that was received on the current motion was marked as invalid
due to this. A check of all vote results so far this year confirmed that
no outcomes of previous votes were affected by this error.

For those of voting status, please be sure to report any non-receipt of
ballot mailings for the next vote we take.

Sorry for any confusion on this issue.

Going once:

Annie writes:

Anyone to take this on? Class? Bueller? Bueller?

If anyone is interested in sponsoring something like this as a DLV
activity next year, please write in and we'll give you the contact
information.
. . . . .

Hello my name is Madison and I am a transgender makeup educator and I
would like to speak with one of your organizers about hosting a private
free makeup class for your group. In the class we would make the
learning experience fun, exciting, and easy for all attendees to become
there own makeup artist. I have several brands that would be interested
in assisting making this event a grand and memorable event for all
attendees.

Please let me know when the best time to speak would be and we can setup
a call.

Ps we do understand that privacy is key and all members will feel safe
knowing we provide complete discretion.
. . . . . . . . . .

Any takers?

Systems updates:

Annie writes:

First of all, our sister event Pinkfest now has its own domain on the
web!

http://pinkfest.lgbt

(No www., no .com, just pinkfest.lgbt)

The domain of pinkfest.net is aliased to it to cover cases where the new
.lgbt top level domain might be blocked by assh^H^H^H^H naz^H^H^H
intolerant network administrators.

So? How does this affect DLV, you ask?

One project in the works is to convert all domains in the "family" to
the secure https protocol during this calendar year. Due to the relative
simplicity of the Pinkfest site, that conversion will be done first and
is scheduled to be complete by the end of this week.

After this is shaken down, the next one will be the divalas.vegas
domain. No significant changes should be noticed by most of you, except
when surfing the site, the http:// in your location bar will then read
https:// and the "lock" icon on your browser should appear to be locked.

This will encrypt the traffic going to and from your browser to the
server, making it extremely difficult to eavesdrop on said traffic using
"sniffers" as well as legitimate network analysis tools.

Late update: https is now live on the pinkfest.lgbt domain!

Set the dates:

Katie writes:

Please let's get the dates set in stone.

I looked into flights today for April 15 in my preferred airline and
they are excellent for me.

My past quite extensive air travel history tells me that these will
disappear soon and only stopovers will be available or much higher
prices. Neither of which I want to deal with.

So Please, please, please get the secret high end DLVer is on board and
set the dates permanently. I really don't care who it is. I voted for
15th and so did 12 others.

We really should not have to go through this every second year but
unfortunately we do. Life is what it is though and I am a low end voter
who only runs a rather insignificant event so my single vote obviously
does not count for very much but I still have an opinion and would like
to get my preference known in now before it is too late.

If I did not say anything then I would regret this as I may not go if
the flights are too expensive. I am retired so this really does matter
to me.

I do not think that a reply to this within one day is too much to ask do
you? . We have had enough time already anyway.

I was Not asleep at the wheel because I have been a regular attender for
years and I know when voting for the dates for the next year are due.
