Date vote results:

Votes are in and poll are closed on our date vote for 2018. Results are:

Week of April 15-20: 13
Week of April 22-27: 3
ABSTAIN Cast no vote: 3

Last vote was received Wed, 27 Sep 2017 02:42:06 and polls were closed
at that time Friday morning.

The week of April 15-20 was selected by a very significant majority.
. . . . .

Due to the fact there may be some late objections raised, we'll refrain
from posting these as tentative on the web site until all issues are
settled.

We also have a motion on the floor (below) to help us deal with a few
issues which have plagued the date selection process this year and in
years in the past. We'll let that run its course and then open the floor
for any objections, motions to set aside, etc. regarding this year's
chosen dates.

Moving forward:

Annie writes:

Although the date selection vote itself came in with a significant
majority, there has been one irregularity and we do want to deal with
that fairly.

It happens that one of our senior volunteers was apparently asleep at
the switch, or rather asleep at the inbox :) for a while, and totally
missed the April Only motion and vote.

Yes, it's very important to watch those inboxes while important
decisions are in progress! "Ya snooze, ya lose!" :)

However, we do want to be fair to all, and we do want everyone's
opinion to be heard and considered.

We also want to do what we can to eliminate trouble spots proactively,
and one trouble spot that has occurred in multiple years are very close
votes regarding the dates of our events and some strong feelings
regarding the results and the processes.

It could be argued (and actually was off line) that the majority on the
April Only vote was weak, and the other non-April dates should have been
allowed in the vote as options. It could also be argued that had one
individual been more bright-eyed and bushy-tailed and voted promptly,
the vote on the April Only motion would not have attained a majority.

That's why we are raising the motion below to help smooth out the date
selection process.

The preface of the motion states that the new rules will not take effect
until next January, long after our dates will have been selected and all
issues resolved. This makes the motion entirely forward-looking and does
not change any rules in the middle of the game.

The first proposed rule sets a higher threshold for anything that
proposes to play around with the way we decide the dates of our events.
This follows our long-standing rule stating that significant changes to
our scheduled event dates need a 2/3 majority.

The second proposed rule eliminates the potential multiple rounds of
voting for the actual dates and calls in the Admin Committee to make the
final decision in the event of no majority or a weak majority on the
actual date votes.

The floor is now open for discussion and debate on the motion.

One thing that may help in addition ...

For those of you of voting status who use a secondary email address for
your DLV communications, you might consider having us add your primary
email address to the "dlvelect" mailing list in addition to your
secondary address. This way you'll be sure to see any vote-related items
without delay. The traffic is very low, as it only consists of ballot
related items, and the message titles are sufficiently innocuous that
those who might see them while shoulder surfing should not catch on.

Motion on the floor:

You may consider this motion to be raised by Annie and seconded by JoAnn
or Cami (choose one).

Motion for consideration:

As of January 1, 2018, the following standing rules shall be adopted:

1. Motions regarding any changes in the methods or procedures to be used
for the setting of the dates for each of our annual events will require
a 2/3 majority of the ORG members of voting status to pass.

2. For the voting of the actual setting of the dates for each annual
event, only one round of voting shall be used. In the event no candidate
week garners 60% or more of the votes cast by ORG members of voting
status, the Administrative Committee shall make the final selection from
among the balloted candidate weeks.

The floor is now open for discussion on this motion.

Anyone to take this on:

This came in a while back.

If anyone is interested in sponsoring something like this as a DLV
activity next year, please write in and we'll give you the contact
information.
. . . . .

Hello my name is Madison and I am a transgender makeup educator and I
would like to speak with one of your organizers about hosting a private
free makeup class for your group. In the class we would make the
learning experience fun, exciting, and easy for all attendees to become
there own makeup artist. I have several brands that would be interested
in assisting making this event a grand and memorable event for all
attendees.

Please let me know when the best time to speak would be and we can setup
a call.

Ps we do understand that privacy is key and all members will feel safe
knowing we provide complete discretion.
. . . . . . . . . .

Any takers?
