This mailing:

This mailing is a day late. Your esteemed Moderator was a few hundred
miles away enjoying the eclipse. If you would like to see some photos
from this, please write in.

Yes, this mailing is quite long. One of the longer items was held over
from last week to keep the last mailing to a reasonable length. Please
give your attention to the items discussed here, as all are relevant to
our program.
. . . . .

Thanks to those who commented on the date situation. Please keep those
cards and letters coming!

What we need most of all, at this time, from you, the volunteers, is
comments and feedback. Comments are requested on several items raised or
addressed in this mailing, so please do not be shy. Remember, it's
perfectly OK to agree to disagree on about everything we discuss. :)

Also, just about everything we do regarding our program is a valid topic
of potential discussion. This ("slow season") is the time for it! :)
. . . . .

For those who have not yet visited, the DLV 2017 follow-up pages are now
on line. Surf here and click the "2017" button:

As with all other recent years, comments on the photos are welcome and
encouraged. :)

Thanks to all who submitted photos of this year's event and thanks go
out to our Proofread Team for shaking down this year's collection. :)

Vote Of Confidence:

This one was fairly anticlimactic with a low "turnout", which hopefully
indicates that it's not contentious, as opposed to low-interest.

There were no No or Abstain votes. One "no vote" on one line was caught
by the machine (most likely an unintentional omission) and that
particular line was recorded as a vote not cast.

One late vote was received. Outcomes would not be affected had this been
received on time.

The raw votes with semi-redacted Message-ID lines appear at the bottom
of this mailing. If anyone thinks that their vote may not have been
recorded, please say so (just reply to this) within the next list cycle.

Thanks to all who voted and congratulations and thanks to all named for
having such a high degree of confidence.

Date comments:

Katie writes:

The room rates are not a stumbling block for me. The Airfare is though.

I would think that if rooms at the Flamingo are $59 then this would
likely signify that there are not a lot of vacationers flocking to town
at that time.

Logically the air fares may follow this trend. Not having checked any
air lines and this is far too early to even look at some as they do not
have their schedules out yet, I would vote for April 15.

This date suits me perfectly as the weather is usually quite nice in mid
April and beyond and it is a better time for me also.

Just thought I'd mention that because some may look at the hotel prices
and neglect the air fare until it is too late and they have voted for an
expensive time.

Anyhoo. April 15 for me!
. . . . .

Michelle (NV) writes:

Note that Keystone Conference is 6th-11th March -- which is unusually
early this year. Might be a financial and schedule risk to the following
week for DLV.

Robyn (the one with the "Y") writes:

1. Week of March 18-23 earlier the better to beat the heat
. . . . .

Cami writes:

As for dates the week of March 18th would-be my 1st choice followed by
the week of April 15th as my 2nd choice.

Viva Wild side Starts on May fourteenth and many of the girls who come
to diva go to Viva so the further apart they are in weeks the better
chance we have of getting all of them.

I am OK with a Sunday through a Friday night timeframe
. . . . . . . . . .

Annie responds:

First of all, does anyone (particularly active volunteers) find themself
to be absolutely-positively locked out from any of the proposed weeks?
If so, please scream loudly, sooner rather than later. I personally will
not vote for a timeframe that locks out any active volunteer, and I have
always encouraged others to do so (or in this case, to not do so) :) as
well.

Next ...

Is the overlapping of the "gravitational fields" of DLV and Keystone
really significant enough for us to be concerned?

I don't know. I'm asking.

Delaney, got your ears on? :) :)

To try to understand the degree of potential conflict here I went back
to the "Other Events" section of the recent surveys. We've been tracking
Keystone Conference since 2014 and the total number of weighted "hits"
on the survey for Keystone over all years we've been tracking it is 15.

This compares to SCC (88 hits) and FanFair (59 hits) over the same
reporting period.

Esprit, which I consider to be another mainly-regional event of about
the same "mass" has 50 hits over the same period.

Even First Event, which is most definitely regional in scope, had 25
hits over the same four years.

My impression has always been that due to several factors (the regional
orientation of Keystone, the vast difference in theme and format of the
two programs, etc.) that those who find Keystone more of interest (and
more convenient) will do Keystone and those who find DLV to be more of
interest will do DLV and very few are torn between the two.

I cannot remember a single complaint over the years from anyone who
wanted to do both and could not.

I vote for having the ladies print t own name tags...

Dennis' health, particularly his eye sight due to the melanoma he has
around his left eye, is making it increasingly hard for him to be at the
computer for long periods of time typing out the name tags.

Cami writes:

Let's print our own name tags.
. . . . . . . . . .

Annie responds:

As I said, the only way we're going to see if a significant number of
our people will actually follow through and print their name tags is to
try it.

Knowing how our people tend to behave, however, I know that if the only
option for a name tag was to print it yourself, we would have quite a
few without them. Therefore I think it's worth the effort to print out
tags (using automation) for those who wish a pre-printed tag to be given
to them.

EHM comments:

Marisa writes:

At the risk of sounding negative, but being more realistic about it,
I think the EHM event may have found it's attendance numbers.

There's always a number of risque fun regulars and some new attendees
showing up each year. The "been there done that" is a issue and the low
show up compared to the sign up numbers have been disappointing the last
2 years.

The cost (close to $200 for the 2 act fabulous Buttercup in "13") and
effort to provide entertainment would be a challenge for the very creative.

It would also be a lot to ask of the EHM to bring in a cash bar, because
the almost predictable turn out doesn't support the cost. I thought the $3 or
$4 dollar drinks next door was quite ok and I had on about the skimpiest
clothes with the most challenging, but fun, heels to walk in!

I do plan on hosting a burlesque show event this year if there is a show
in LV at the same time as DLV.
. . . . .

Cami writes:

As for EHM my personal opinion is that it's run its course-and should be
shelved for a year to see if we can come-up with something else.
. . . . . . . . . .

Annie responds:

Thanks ladies.

I really do think that we should have, each year, at least one mid-size
activity where it's appropriate to dress in more exotic attire.

I also think that EHM is a very appropriate venue for such activities.

The bottom line, however, is that if such activities are to happen, our
volunteers will have to plan them, and it will be said volunteers who
choose the venue.

Speaking freely, I think that EHM is far more classy and more convenient
than Kings Of Hustler. I think there are also other venues which may be
considered as well. I have a feeling that Spotlight might agree to let
us use the place on a weeknight in exchange for the bar business. The
Phoenix is another possibility, but not as convenient.

Let's hear some comments, particularly from those who value the
opportunity to enjoy the more exotic outfits.

Katie writes:

How about on the steps outside the main entrance to BB? We can spread
out around the Verandah and down the stairs so everyone can plainly be
seen and If we go in Mid April it might be light enough at 9PM. We have
several camera experts amongst us who can very likely find a way around
that anyway.

I realize that it might be a bit of an inconvenience for the BB people
so it would have to be done rather quickly due to patrons leaving, but
at that time of night the customer traffic will be less and there will
probably be no one entering the place so that part is out of the
equation.

I also realize it would have to be done with a rather good camera but we
have plenty of those available from what I have seen in previous years.

Also it could be done more rapidly if only one Single person was taking
the photos instead of every Tom Dick and Mary getting in on the act.

This may not be perfect but standing on the same level as we usually do
and having some of our smaller ladies getting stuck behind a 6 footer
then jockeying for a better position etc' never gets people motivated
for a grouper.

The 6 or 7 levels on the entrance stairs outside the building could be a
nice new way to look at the group rather than shuffling around until we
get it right on one single level inside BB then some ladies just leave
because it took too long. Again, If it was *April 15* for example it
will still be warm enough at 9PM whereas early or mid March very likely
won't be.

Just a thought. Maybe we can use it or maybe not, but for 100 people a
few levels to stand on is surely better than what we have been doing..

Please throw this by some of our Camera ladies and see what they think.
. . . . . . . . . .

Annie responds:

First of all, light should not be an issue. We've had several group
photos taken outside at night over the years with no problems. A few
good examples are those taken at the Las Vegas sign on this year's
Limo Tour.

http://divalas.vegas/dlv2017/d17limo.html

More light is available to us, if needed. :)

Let's see what other volunteers think of this. Comments?

My main concerns are with the logistics of getting everyone out there
and posed. I have a feeling that once we get people outdoors and posed
for the photo, that will be it, and many will vamoose after the photos,
as opposed to returning inside for more QST. This does happen somewhat
already, and we've been timing the photo to hit it at the time the gang
appears to be ready to break up. We missed that slightly this year and
some were out the door before we did the call to pose.

Activity thoughts:

Would-be fine. I'm going to Vegas this weekend so I will stop in to 0TS
and see what I can find out.

As for late night dancing I think Paris is always a great choice. Indigo
lounge which is in Balleys is another easy walk from Paris with great
bands.

We can get their schedule and use both places.
. . . . . . . . . .

Annie responds.

Thanks Cami.

Despite the payment issue, I personally have absolutely no objection to
using OTS again if that's what the gang wants.

(Redacted content available to DLV volunteers and attendees on request.)

I think that OTS could work well for either the opening or the closing
major gathering, and it will be up to those volunteering to host(ess)
those to choose which is which.

Also note that with your new computer environment, both emails you have
sent me went straight to Spam. Hopefully I have whitelisted DLV, but
just wanted you to know that it happened.
. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks for the report, Michelle.

Unfortunately, some spam filters do consider emails from the "newer"
top-level domains, such as dot-vegas, to be more likely spam than those
from the legacy (.com .net .org etc.) top-level domains.

I would be interested to hear if others are seeing any of this as well.

What I would suggest is that first you whitelist divalas.vegas for your
incoming email and also train your spam filter (usually it's as simple
as marking an email as not-spam) to recognize the emails that you
consider legitimate.

If this becomes a chronic issue, we can indeed revert the sending
address of the ORG mailings to geekbabe.com, even on a per-recipient
basis.

Some remarks on the 2017 survey:

Annie writes:

Here are a few comments on the recent DLV 2017 attendee survey and the
included comments. Due to the length, I'm breaking this up into two
sections, this one being on the objective questions, and I'll comment on
the textual comments and suggestions next week.

Further comments (just reply to this mailing) will be appreciated.

Here are the links to the full survey reports, if you have not seen them

. . . . .

These comments are not in the order they appeared on the survey.

These surveys help us out considerably, and we look at them in two
primary ways.

1. The particular year's scores, which indicate how our people enjoyed
the recent event.

2. Comparisons from year to year, to note trends, changes, etc.

With 72 mostly complete responses, the rate and number of responses are
roughly what we've seen in the past two years, leading to valid
comparisons between these years.
. . . . . . . . . .

First on the plate here are the activity enjoyment ratings.

I personally consider the activity enjoyment ratings to be the
singularly most important part of the survey. This year the enjoyment
scores are exceptional.

+What was your level of enjoyment at each of the following activities?

A perfect score of 5.0 indicates that everyone who responded to the
particular activity enjoyment rating rated it "Enjoyed significantly"
with no lesser ratings at all.

+Diva Las Vegas Invitational Golf, Tuesday: 5.0 (8 responses)
+Lunch With Aejaie, Fulton Street: 5.0 (6 responses)
+YSL Makeovers, Fashion Show Mall, all sessions: 5.0 (3 responses)
+Lunch With Aejaie, Flamingo Buffet, Sunday: 5.0 (3 responses)
+Tennis Tournament, Bally's, Wednesday, March 29: 5.0 (3 responses)
+Lunch Without Ginger, Flamingo Buffet, Thursday: 5.0 (2 responses)
+Taj Place Happy Hour and Dinner, Wednesday: 5.0 (1 responses)
+OSheas Social, Linq, Wednesday, March 29: 5.0 (1 responses)

This year we had 8 activities "ring the bell" on the enjoyment scale.
Yes, there are a few with low response numbers, since when more answer
the particular question, it's more and more likely at least one less
than perfect response will be given.

This is compared to eight perfect 5.0 in 2016 and four in 2015.

I consider the 5.0 rating, particularly with 5 or more responses, to be
a solid A+ on the grading scale.

This year we also saw a pronounced shift upward, in the number of
activities scoring between 4.5 and 4.99 on the enjoyment scale.

+Late Night Dancing, Paris - Le Cabaret, Friday: 4.90 (21 responses)
+Denny's Happy Hour and Dinner, Sunday: 4.90 (10 responses)

+Late Night Dancing, Paris - Le Cabaret, Wednesday: 4.87 (16 responses)
+Topgolf, Wednesday, March 29: 4.83 (6 responses)
+Limousine Tour, Caesars Palace, Wednesday: 4.82 (23 responses)
+Magnolia Happy Hour and Dinner, Sunday: 4.80 (5 responses)

+Late Night Dancing, Paris - Le Cabaret, Tuesday: 4.78 (23 responses)
+Late Night Dancing, Paris - Le Cabaret, Thursday: 4.78 (23 responses)
+Ruth's Chris HH and Dinner, Harrahs, Tuesday: 4.78 (14 responses)
+Late Night Dancing, Paris - Le Cabaret, Monday: 4.76 (25 responses)
+Love Ur Look Luncheon, Kona Grill, Tuesday: 4.76 (13 responses)
+Creative Wigs Workshop, Bahama Breeze, Thursday: 4.75 (16 responses)
+Late Night Dancing, Fremont Street Experience, Sunday: 4.75 (12 responses)
+Lunch With Aejaie, Off The Strip, Monday: 4.75 (8 responses)
+Kiss Monster Mini Golf, Rio, Wednesday: 4.75 (8 responses)
+Pistol and rifle shooting, Thursday, March 30: 4.75 (4 responses)
+Exotic Racing, Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Friday: 4.75 (4 responses)
+Welcome HH, Dinner, Social, Bahama Breeze, Monday: 4.70 (58 responses)

+Ricardo's HH and Dinner, Tuesday, March 28: 4.66 (9 responses)
+Bare Minerals Makeup Sessions, all sessions: 4.66 (6 responses)
+Lunch With Cami, Carnegie Deli, Friday: 4.66 (3 responses)
+High Tea, Four Seasons, Friday, March 31: 4.66 (3 responses)
+Show and Dinner, Friday, March 31: 4.66 (3 responses)
+Erotic Heritage Museum, Tuesday, March 28: 4.60 (30 responses)
+New Attendee Welcome and Orientation, Monday: 4.60 (20 responses)
+Live Escape, Countdown, Thursday, March 30: 4.60 (5 responses)

+Farewell HH, Dinner, Social, Off The Strip, Thursday: 4.58 (48 responses)
+Trevi Happy Hour and Dinner, Wednesday, March 29: 4.57 (38 responses)
+MAC Makeup Lessons, Fashion Show Mall, all sessions: 4.55 (9 responses)

The majority of the activities we tracked this year fell into the 4.5
to 4.99 range!

I consider this range to be a solid A on the grading scale, and
activities falling this range have more "Enjoyed significantly" and
"Enjoyed" ratings than all lesser ratings.

We didn't have very many fall between 4.0 and 4.5 this year.

Why? Because most activities were in the higher categories! :)

+Fremont Street Experience, Sunday, March 26: 4.45 (22 responses)
+Hofbrauhaus Happy Hour and Dinner, Tuesday: 4.44 (9 responses)
+Katie's Kozy Koffee Korner, Flamingo, all sessions: 4.23 (13 responses)
+Margaritaville HH and Dinner, Flamingo, Friday: 4.22 (9 responses)
+Gold Spike HH and Dinner, Sunday, March 26: 4.0 (8 responses)
+Gold Spike gaming, Sunday, March 26: 4.0 (8 responses)
+Studio Lites Open House, Monday, March 27: 4.0 (7 responses)
+Giordanos Happy Hour and Dinner, Bally's, Friday: 4.0 (7 responses)
+Lunch Without Ginger, Flamingo Buffet, Tuesday: 4.0 (1 responses)

No activities we tracked this year scored less than 4.0 on the enjoyment
scale! The average of all activity enjoyment scores this year was 4.65,
which again is the highest we've ever seen since we began tracking this
particular item.

+2016: 4.59, 2015: 4.51, 2014: 4.41, 2013: 4.46, 2012: 4.17
+2011: 4.53, 2010: 4.54, 2009: 4.28, 2008: 4.47, 2007: 4.28

One very clear winner this year was:

+Late Night Dancing, Paris - Le Cabaret, Monday: 4.76 (25 responses)
+Late Night Dancing, Paris - Le Cabaret, Tuesday: 4.78 (23 responses)
+Late Night Dancing, Paris - Le Cabaret, Wednesday: 4.87 (16 responses)
+Late Night Dancing, Paris - Le Cabaret, Thursday: 4.78 (23 responses)
+Late Night Dancing, Paris - Le Cabaret, Friday: 4.90 (21 responses)

My conclusion is that the slate of activities that we provided for DLV
2017 was highly enjoyed by the majority of the attendees. I would like
to say thanks to the volunteers, and a very enthusiastic congratulations
is in line here! :)
. . . . .

+How many times have you attended Diva Las Vegas?

+Once: 14
+Twice: 9
+Three or more: 16
+Five or more: 20
+Ten or more: 13

This was typical of the distribution we've seen over the years. What we
like to see is a good mix here, of newcomers, recent returnees, and
long-term returnees.
. . . . .

+About how far did you travel to attend DLV 2017?

+Average miles: 1803.47

This dropped a bit this year, mainly due to the lower number of overseas
attendees we saw this year.
. . . . .

+On what date did you arrive for DLV 2017?
+On what date did you depart DLV 2017?

No surprises here. We saw the typical distribution of arrival and
departure days.

+Average length of stay: 5.34 days.

This number (length of stay) has remained incredibly consistent from
year to year.
. . . . .

+Which of the following best describes your attendance and
+participation in Diva Las Vegas 2017?

+I attended solo and chose my activities individually: 58
+With partner - chose activities individually: 3
+With partner - mostly participated as a couple: 6
+With group - chose activities individually: 1
+With group - mostly participated as group: 4

This is the third year we've asked this question, and this year we saw a
drop-off in those reporting they attended with a partner.
. . . . .

Check-in and name tags are evolving functions.

We paid far more attention this year to keeping more accurate records,
as we do have a need to know who did and did not attend. Doing away with
paper sign-in sheets made the check-in process go far more smoothly.

+While you were in attendance, did you get a chance to officially
+check in with one of our volunteers (whether or not you got a name
+tag)?

+Yes I did: 65
+No I did not: 7

+Did you receive a personalized name tags during your attendance of DLV
+2016?

+Yes I did: 62
+No I did not: 10

Most everyone did check in and receive a name tag. Most who were present
but did not check in responded promptly to the first request to confirm
attendance.

+And what about the request to wear name tags?

+I found them to be helpful: 40
+I don't really care either way: 22
+I did not like them: 7

It was very obvious (to me, anyway) that the wearing of name tags
decreased as the week progressed.

We'll again be discussing the topic of tags here in ORG. (See above.)
Most everyone seems to agree that they are a necessary evil, but nobody
has so far come up with any workable ideas on encouraging our people to
consistently wear the tags.
. . . . .

+What is your approximate age?

(See link above if you want a breakdown.)

Age was a hot topic last year at about this time!

We had all kinds of dire predictions that we were destined to start
circling the drain unless we did something, anything, to attract younger
attendees and get the average age down.

For the second year in a row, our average reported age dropped. This
year it was slightly lower than any of the previous five years.

2017: Approximate average age: 57.75

Going back to the previous five years, we have:

2016: 58.59 2015: 60.27 2014: 58.58 2013: 58.75 2012: 59.8

It looks like our age peaked in 2015.

Do keep in mind that these numbers are still very close, and the drop
from the peak in 2015 to the current year is only about four percentage
points.

My personal observation this year was that yes, those who were younger,
particularly those who were newbees this year, were more active and more
visible than in past years. This was particularly evident at the larger
gatherings and at the nightly dancing sessions.

But wait! There's more! :)

Some may have noticed this year that we added two additional age
categories, 71-75 and 76-80, with the highest option now Over 80. This
was a suggestion received in feedback last year. If we would have
tabulated the average age using the same exact age choices as we've done
in previous years, this year's average age would have been slightly
lower still, for more of a true apples-to-apples comparison.
. . . . .

The labels of self-identity are always interesting, and they have been
evolving since our origin, and particularly since 2010 or so.

As always, we don't define the terms, we just track and report on what
our attendees specify.

+I consider myself to be primarily a (an) (In order of # of responses)

+Crossdresser: 27
+Transgender(ist): 16
+I do not identify with any of the above labels: 6
+Transvestite: 5
+Transwoman: 5
+Gender-fluid: 3
+Gender-nonconforming: 3
+Pre-op: 1
+Post-op: 1
+No-op: 1
+Gender-neutral: 1
+Gender-questioning: 1
+Bigender: 1
+Pangender: 1

As long as we've been doing this survey, we've never had a true majority
in any of the categories. We came close, one response away, one year in
recent history, from having a "Crossdresser" majority, however.

Over the years we've seen somewhat of a shift from Crossdresser to
Transgender(ist), Transwoman and some of the more contemporary labels.

In recent years we've also seen a slight but noted shift from the
Pre-op/No-op categories to the contemporary labels.

Post-op has always been in the single digits.

We quit using the term "Trans(s)exual" a number of years ago, as it's
been falling out of favor as a label of self-identity. Some even
consider the term to be offensive. In any case, it's often considered to
be deprecated and anachronistic.

Speaking of deprecated and anachronistic, we keep "Transvestite" as a
choice because our people keep checking it and nobody so far has
complained about it being inappropriate or offensive.

+Drag queen: 0
+Genderqueer: 0
+Transman: 0
+Self-identified woman: 0
+Self-identified man: 0
+Intersex: 0
+H Benjamin Syndrome: 0
+Significant other: 0
+Admirer: 0
+Friend of the community or ally: 0
+Friend of another attendee: 0

This year we had zero responses to any of the above.
. . . . .

+I am a (an) ...

+Nonsmoker: 67
+Occasional smoker: 4
+Regular smoker: 1

We started asking this one a few years back, and the question may be
retired since it really hasn't told us anything new or significant over
the years we've used it. It confirms the observation that nonsmokers are
the majority and probably will be for the future. We've noticed no
significant shift in these numbers over the years we've asked it.
. . . . .

+I consider myself to be a (an) ...

+Non-drinker: 7
+Social drinker: 47
+Regular drinker: 17

This is another question which may be retired. It's basically confirmed
observations and has shown no meaningful shift.

Those two questions may be better in something like a five-year rotation
rather than annually.
. . . . .

This next one HAS, however, shown and continues to show, a meaningful
shift over the past decade or so.

+Do you belong to a local transgender support group?

+I am currently a member.: 19
+I have previously been a member.: 27
+I have never been a member.: 24

Current membership is down in the minority, and the plurality stated
that they have been members previously. This confirms the consensus that
there's less of a need for such groups.
. . . . .

+Have you ever attended any of the following transgender community
+events?

+Southern Comfort Conference 30
+Fantasia Fair 23
+Wildside Vegas 21
+Esprit 12
+Fall Harvest 10
+California Dreaming 7
+Pinkfest 6
+First Event 6
+Just You Week 6
+Be-All 4
+Colorado Goldrush 4
+Texas T 4
+Dignity Cruise 4
+Paradise in the Poconos 3
+Holiday Enfemme 3
+Keystone Conference 2
+En Femme Getaway 2

Fanfair and SCC remain at the top, but Wildside hit number three this
year, somewhat unexpectedly, up significantly from 2015 and 2016. We are
obviously seeing quite a bit of cross-over here.

It appears to me (both from reading the numbers and talking to people in
person) that our people are not only doing Wildside as well as DLV, but
we're actually starting to pick up a significant number of attendees
from Wildside.

One question which was asked of me is to the effect of why we ask about
events which have long been gone? Why? Because people keep clicking on
them. :)
. . . . .

I watch this next one very carefully.

+Did you find our web site to accurately depict what you experienced
+at DLV?

+Yes, definitely.: 58
+Yeah, kinda.: 12
+No.: 0
+I have not viewed the DLV web site.: 1

The numbers have been fairly consistent over recent years. Fortunately
the "No" responses have always been in the low single digits.
. . . . .

Again, I watch these next two very closely.

+Did you find our on-line registration procedure and activity sign-up
+to be convenient and easy to use?

+Yes.: 61
+It was a bit confusing.: 8
+No.: 0
+I did not register or sign up on line.: 0

+Did you have any technical or ergonomic difficulties when using our
+on-line registration or activity sign-up screens?

+Yes.: 5
+No.: 66
+I did not register or sign up on line.: 1

I would welcome feedback from anyone having any difficulties, please!
. . . . .

+If you stayed in a local hotel, were you satisfied with
+the quality and condition of your room and the facilities of the
+property?

+Flamingo:

+Definitely satisfied: 20
+Mostly satisfied: 5
+Neutral: 3
+Not really: 3
+Definitely not: 0

+Flamingo:

+Very comfortable: 21
+Somewhat comfortable: 7
+Neutral: 2
+Somewhat uncomfortable: 1
+very uncomfortable: 0

Flamingo was (as expected) the only hotel to really garner enough
responses to be statistically significant. With the derogs down in the
low single digits, we might conclude that people enjoyed our primary
suggested hotel and were comfortable there.

For satisfaction, we got two derogs in the fill-in-the-blank hotels:

+Not really (Harrah's)
+Not really (Arizona Charley (dump))

For comfort, we had one derog of the fill-in-the-blank hotels:

+Very uncomfortable (Palace Station)

If anyone here would like to comment on the lower ratings for three of
the named hotels, please feel free to do so.
. . . . .

+Did you take advantage of our special promotional hotel room rates
+at the Flamingo for all or part of your stay?

+Yes I did: 25
+No but I was aware of it: 34
+No but I was too late for it: 7
+No and I was unaware of it: 0

Of the 66 who answered this question, 25 of them (about 38%) took
advantage of the deal. Nobody this year reported being unaware of the
special rates.

In comparing the answers on that question with the Flamingo ratings
above, it looks like six of the respondees stayed at the Flamingo
without taking advantage of the special rate. I'm assuming that at
least some of these are complimentary or casino rate.
. . . . .

+Did you find yourself missing DLV activities because you either got
+into a time crunch or were simply too tired from previous activities?

+Seldom or never: 45
+Occasionally: 20
+Frequently: 3

About 34% of those answering the question reported at least some time
crunch issues.
. . . . .

+Did you find yourself missing DLV activities because you were in any
+uncomfortable, unsure, or uneasy about attending?

+Never: 58
+Once: 8
+Occasionally: 4
+Frequently: 0

I think that "once" is perfectly understandable here. As long as we keep
the lesser ones down in the low single digits, we're doing about as well
as we can on this.
. . . . .

+During the course of the event, did you suffer from an unexpected
+illness or injury which prevented you from fully participating?

+Yes I did: 4
+No I did not: 65

We started tracking this the year AFTER we had several reports of lower
GI infections toward the later days of our event. It's probably a good
one to keep asking, since we may not know of any outbreaks until after
the event has concluded.
. . . . .

I've been personally keeping track of these next two items closely.

+Did you use the activity reminder service (e-mail or text
+messages to your cell phone) and if so, did it work well for you?

+Yes, and it worked fine.: 22
+Yes, and it worked off and on.: 0
+Yes, but it seldom or never.: 2
+No, I did not use it..: 46
+I do not know what you are talking about.: 1

+Did you use the DLV Group Text service (text messages
+from other attendees to your cell phone or email) and if
+so, did it work well for you?

+Yes, and it worked fine.: 17
+Yes, and it worked off and on.: 4
+Yes, but it seldom or never.: 2
+No, I did not use it..: 44
+Say what?: 3

These two are picking up in popularity but are still unused by the
majority of the attendees. I've commented further on these in the last
mailing.
. . . . .

+Which of the following best describes your experience with the DLV
+On-site Check-in, held from Sunday through Thursday at the Flamingo?

+Used it and found it to be helpful.?: 19
+Used it, but did not find it to be helpful.: 1
+I tried but I could not find it.: 7
+I was too shy or apprehensive to use it.: 2
+I did not know that On-Site Check-in was available.: 16
+No clue what you are talking about.: 7

This is the first year we tried this. Quite a few did not know of it and
a few could not find it. I've commented more about it in last week's
mailing.
. . . . .

+Did you have convenient and reliable e-mail service during
+DLV, using any method?

+Yes, and I checked e-mail frequently.: 56
+Yes, but I checked it infrequently.: 6
+No: 8

+Which of the following BEST describes your electronic
+communication abilities during our event?

+None, No phone, no e-mail, no nothing.: 0
+Hotel room phone only.: 1
+Personal home phone only, voice only.: 0
+Personal cell phone, voice only.: 3
+Personal cell phone, text capable.: 10
+Smart Phone, web capable.: 41
+Netbook or tablet with sporadic Internet access only.: 2
+Netbook or tablet with regular Internet access.: 7
+Full-size laptop or desktop with sporadic Internet access only.: 0
+Full-size laptop or desktop with regular Internet access.: 6

These numbers have been shifting (in the positive direction) ever since
we started tracking this. The majority of our people now have some or
multiple means of connectivity.
. . . . .

The following two questions refer to the proposed LA Transcon, and the
concern that was raised here in this list last winter. The concern was
that many in the LA area would choose LAT over DLV as their "girl time"
of the season and skip us.

+Which of the following best represents your thoughts should the
+proposed major TG event in Los Angeles come to fruition and occur
+within a few weeks of DLV 2018?

+Most likely skip DLV and attend the new event.: 5
+Most likely attend DLV and skip the new event.: 46
+Most likely attend both.: 13
+Most likely skip both.: 2

+Which of the following best describes your personal location
+regarding geographic proximity to Las Vegas and Los Angeles?

+I am in the general vicinity of Los Angeles.: 11
+I am in the general vicinity of Las Vegas.: 7
+Roughly equidistant from both.: 13
+Significant distance from both.: 39

As shown by the responses, yes, a few may do just that (skip DLV and do
only LAT) but most would not be so tempted.

I personally believe that the two events are so different that most will
have a definite preference for one or the other.
. . . . .

+What was your primary means of transportation to and from DLV activities?

+My own private vehicle: 25
+My own rental vehicle: 12
+In another's vehicle: 1
+Taxi: 17
+Uber, Lyft, etc.: 7
+City bus or shuttle: 0
+Walking: 7

We're most definitely seeing a shift away from the individual vehicle
over the past few years. Uber (etc.) is starting to catch on with our
people.
. . . . .

+Did you have any difficulty getting a ride to DLV activities?

+Yes: 3
+No: 65

We are probably never going to get to zero on this, but if it stays in
the low single digits, I think we're doing quite well.
. . . . .

+Did you have any difficulty finding the locations at which DLV 2017
+activities were held?

+Yes: 4
+No: 66

+Did you have any difficulty finding the group at any of our venues?

+Yes: 5
+No: 66

Ditto for the two related questions above.
. . . . .

+Did you find the other DLV attendees to be friendly and inclusive?

+Mostly yes: 63
+Yes, somewhat: 4
+Neutral: 1
+No, somewhat: 2
+Mostly no: 0

Again, very low single digits for the derogs here. Good job gang! :)
. . . . .

+Did you participate in our Big Sister program and if so, did you find
+it to be helpful?

+I had a Big Sister and I found the program to be helpful.: 2
+I had a Big Sister and I did not find the program to be helpful.: 0
+I was a volunteer Big Sister and had a positive experience.: 4
+I was a volunteer Big Sister and my Little Sister was a no-show.: 1
+I was a volunteer Big Sister and did not have a positive experience.: 0
+I did not participate in the Big Sister program.: 61
+I was unaware the Big Sister program existed.: 1

No true derogs here, but I would sure like to see the level of
participation in the Big Sister program be a bit higher!
. . . . .

+Which best indicates what DLV is to you?

+An opportunity to dress.: 15
+An opportunity to socialize.: 21
+An opportunity to party.: 1
+An opportunity to express myself.: 9
+An opportunity to learn.: 2
+An opportunity to meet others in the TG community.: 22

This was one of the surprises on the survey. A comment was made by one
member of our Proofread Team that we should include the "To meet others
in the TG community" (thanks Lori) and it actually garnered the
plurality of the responses!
. . . . .

+How important is it that there be a significant number of other
+attendees of the same general age range?

+Very important to me.: 5
+Moderately important to me.: 16
+Important, but there are other factors.: 21
+Little or no importance.: 26

This question was added in response to the age discussion last year. The
responses indicate that yes, there is a desire for homogamy as far as
age goes, but that it's far from the more important issues to most of
the DLV attendees.
. . . . .

+Did you think DLV was too long or too short?

+It was too long: 12
+It was too short: 4
+It was just about right: 52

The majority has always answered "about right" as long as we've been
asking this question, but there has been a definite shift in the "too
long" direction over the past several years.
. . . . .

+Did you personally have any public restroom issues while attending
+DLV 2017?

+I used public restrooms and YES I had issues or incidents.: 0

This is exactly where I want to see this one! :)
. . . . .

+All in all, did DLV 2017 meet your expectations?

+DLV 2017 exceeded my expectations: 26
+DLV 2017 met my expectations: 40
+DLV 2017 failed to meet my expectations: 4

+Would you attend another DLV?

+Yes, definitely: 47
+Yes, probably: 15
+Maybe: 5
+Probably not: 3
+Definitely not: 0

These "bottom line" questions seldom if ever have had more than low
single digits in the derog categories. However, I would like to see us
strive to get these down to zero! :)

Any further comments, gang? :)
