Beginning the DLV 2017 follow-up:

Annie writes:

First of all, thanks go out to our volunteer team who put together our
recent event! It was very well executed and very well received with very
few issues!

Special thanks go out to those who stepped in at short notice to replace
a couple of volunteers who had last-minute conflicts and could not make
it.

Good job well done, gang!
. . . . .

Here's a brief summary of some of the things we'll be taking care of
over the next few weeks and months:

1. Final summarizing of the 2017 event. High points, Lessons learned,
etc. We'll start that now.

2. Activity reports. The first ones appear below.

3. Reviewing of the DLV 2017 survey results. (Closes April 30.) If you
attended and have not yet taken the survey, please do so. Link below.

4. Annual "Vote Of Confidence" (or of no-confidence) of those holding
the named leadership positions. This will happen very shortly.

5. Election of the "Odd Year" Administrative Committee member. This will
occur in July.

6. Addition of the DLV 2017-2018 volunteers. This will most likely occur
in June-July.

7. Preparing the DLV 2017-2018 electorate (voting status) list.

8. Preparing the DLV 2017 follow-up web pages. The staging area is now
open and photos are rolling in.

8a. This is kind of a behind the scenes systems project, but two people
specifically asked me about it during DLV. We'll be implementing https
on the divalas.vegas web server shortly. (If you don't know what this
is, don't worry about it.) This will give our web visitors more security
and privacy. Snoopy service providers will not be able to easily sniff
what the user is doing.

9. Beginning the planning of the 2018 event!

If there are any other items which need our attention in the immediate
future, please don't be silent. :)

Latest numbers:

Annie writes:

Since the last ORG mailing, 16 stragglers have "reported in", bringing
our running total to 147. If we count two vendor reps who did
participate in some activities with the group (historically, we have
always counted such people as attendees), we're at 149.

One individual who was not counted stated that she did indeed make it to
Las Vegas but did not attend anything due to illness. Actually, I think
that this is a Good Thing, as one year we had some very serious issues
with a bug making the rounds. :(

The final reminder batch (confirm attendance) went out Monday. We'll do
one last go-through below, asking for any more first-person sightings,
and call it good.

For the most part, the people this year have been far more responsive
than in years past, regarding responding either affirmatively or
negatively, confirming if they were or were not actually with us.

You'll see that the final "Missing in action" list below has less than
20 individuals on it. This is the fewest number of non-responsive
no-shows that I can ever remember.

We did get one f-bomb punctuated "Get lost and stay there" response to
one request to confirm attendance. This happened to be the same person
who wrote the racially-insensitive "warnings" in the Forum. This
individual has been removed from our mailing lists and the Forum.

I'm expecting that a few additional stragglers may respond when they
realize they do not have their links to the photo staging area. :)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
DLV 2017 Survey:

As of this writing we have 49 responses to the survey, which,
historically, is very good for one week into the survey.

We hope to have 70-some or so responses by the time it closes. (Hint!)
Remember that this year's survey is briefer and takes less time to
complete than those of recent years.

One obvious difference this year is that the percentage of responses
which have textual comments is obviously lower than in recent years.

If you attended and have not yet taken our 2017 post-event survey,
please do so. If you attended as a couple, please have both individuals
take the survey.

The 2017 survey is on line here:

http://divalas.vegas/2017survey.html

If you wish to add additional comments, please re-take the survey,
leaving all of the check boxes and buttons blanks, and just scroll down
to the comment section and submit an additional comment-only entry.

We'll keep the survey open through the month of April.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Photo staging:

Everyone who attended should have received their link to the photo
staging area yesterday.

If you attended this year and did not receive it, please let us know
ASAP.

Also, please check to be sure that the links work and that the photos do
display full-size when clicked. Please report any technical issues
promptly.

We're now up to just over 1000 submitted photos this year! Not all of
them appear in the staging area as of this time, but will be added in
the next several days.

One area in which you can help out is in the area of duplicate or
near-duplicate photos.

One of the most time-consuming parts of the process of creating the
final web pages is deciding which of the near-duplicates to use.

If you will please "like" the ones you prefer, particularly if you
appear in them, that will help to move the process along.

Thanks for helping out by doing this. :)

Activity reports:

Annie writes:

I'll make a few comments on the activities with which I was directly
involved. I'll comment on those I attended but did not organize at
another time.

Overall, most of what I did went well, but there were a few which could
have turned out better with some better foresight, unfortunately.
. . . . .

Sunday, Denny's Dining option Denny's Neonopolis

This one turned out very well. I do not have a headcount since people
were dropping in and out all the time. This venue appeared to be the
default touch-base location for the evening.

Food and service were very good as usual and the gang appeared to enjoy
things.

I know that the idea of Denny's sounds like one of those ho-hum
yeah-yeah sure-sure type of things, but this one has always worked out
well ever since we started using it.
. . . . .

Monday, Studio Lites Open House

This one was a semi-last-minute add-in and was not that well attended. I
did have one report of difficulty finding it.

We've agreed that next year we'll "do it right" and make plans sooner in
the cycle.
. . . . .

Monday, New Attendee Welcome and Orientation

I did not know that I would be doing this until Monday, so I really did
not have a plan in place and kinda winged it. I emphasized the high
spots and the frequently-misunderstood items. Yeah, we touched on such
things as behavior and restrooms but not heavily.

Delaney went over things from the Big/Little Sister perspective.

Overall, I think we're converging on a plan for this that works. Let's
see how the survey responses go to see if this is indeed the case.
. . . . .

Monday, Official Group Photo

We let things get away from us somewhat on this one and did not call for
people to pose until the crowd was breaking up and some had actually
left!

As always, the term "herding cats" most definitely applies! :) :) :)

Yes, I know these are a royal pain to do, but those group shots are some
of the most-viewed on the web site.
. . . . .

Multiple days, Late Night Dancing

This one REALLY caught on this year! Our people are most definitely
getting more and more comfortable doing such things in the hardcore
mainstream. I was glad to see a very good number of our first year folks
there on the nights that I host(ess)ed this!
. . . . .

Wednesday, Limousine Tour

I thought this went exceptionally well this year. (LOL, too well in one
particular car!) :)

This year was one time where the number of paid tickets EXCEEDED the
number that the machine predicted, so we ended up adding another car
and selling a few additional tickets!

The tour kept to the planned schedule for the most part. Yeah, we did
the "walk of the cats" down Fremont Street. :)

I want to do a special call out to Tonya and Juanell, who stepped in and
did the refreshments for the Limo Tour. That was indeed appreciated by
all. I'm trying to remember that one mixer (for the champagne) that they
brought. It was very good. Too good in some cases. :)

In any case, everybody survived and the Limo Tour went very well.
. . . . .

Thursday, Lunch Without Ginger

Grand total of Two!

Let's put it this way, when LWG is opposite the very popular Creative
Wigs thing, it ain't gonna be well-attended!
. . . . .

Friday, Giordanos dining option

This was one case where I feel I missed the boat, badly! :(

Giordano's is one of my favorite places to eat in Chicago, so I figured
the one in LV would be almost identical and all I would have to do was
show up, steer people to the bar and tables, and eat and drink.

It turns out that there are TWO bars and TWO separate dining areas at
the Giordano's at Bally's! One of them is right out on the promenade and
the other is up an escalator overlooking the promenade. I was at the
lower one and I understand the larger group of our people were at the
upper one and wondering where the {expletive} I was.

One person claimed to have texted (me? did not say who?) and got no
response. I checked both my personal texts and the group texts and did
not find anything fitting the description.

Lesson learned: On a new venue, check it out, thoroughly! :(

Just want to give you my quick count so that you don't have to keep
bugging me and that it's fresh.

On Sunday afternoon at Carnival Court we had eight girls.

At Topgolf on Wednesday we had 10 girls.

I also know that the tennis tournament had five girls.

Friday's lunch with Kami was five girls.

Friday afternoon at Carnival Court we had about B 10 girls. There may
have been a couple of missed. Friday night's show and dinner was a total
of 8 girls.

Obviously late night dancing at Paris probably averaged about 20 girls.

Sunday night a bunch of us went to Planet Hollywood to the extra lounge
and there was about eight of us there. Any other questions let me know.

Logistical items:

Here are some notes on some of the "pet projects" I was involved with
this year.

First is the on-site check-in at the Flamingo. I did this from Sunday
through Thursday.

Skipping to the bottom line, I think it was well worth it for the first
few days, but not for, say, Wednesday and Thursday.

Quickly looking at the timestamps of the check-ins, I did 20-some at
these sessions, almost all of them on Sunday and Monday, with a few on
Tuesday.

I was late to it on Thursday. I was on the Monorail when it had to be
shut down for a while due to the power issues toward the south end of
the route. For those who did not hear, power poles were blown over on
Koval and Audrie, between Flamingo and Tropicana. This fouled up the
Monorail control systems.

Fortunately we had stopped in the Harrahs/Linq station so I walked
through, survived the wind tunnel of the Linq Promenade, and made it to
the Flamingo about 10 minutes late.

One comment was that I had noted the location as by the Sin City
Brewery, which had been rebranded. Again, attention to detail!
. . . . .

Speaking of check-in.

I did most of the check-in this year and it was all paperless. It was
definitely easier to reconcile than with the paper check-off sheets and
I'm sure it was more accurate.

The tag scan worked well if the light was good, but was slow and sloppy
when the light was marginal, like at the Bahama Breeze. I was able to
get it to work much better by using the flashlight I carry all the time
to illuminate the QR codes.

It did take two people to handle the peak check-in at BB (thanks, Bev!),
one to do the tag shuffling and the other to do the scanning/clicking.
. . . . .

Group text and activity reminders.

The logs showed that about twice the people used reminders than did last
year and about four times on the group text.

Group text seemed to be used in spurts, with long gaps between flurries
of messages. One suggestion was that a daily "touch base" text should be
sent out.

One of my personal take-aways is to add "barnacle scraping" to the
texts. :)

Last time around - Missing in action:

Thanks to all who responded to requests to confirm attendance and to
requests for first-person sightings. We've done a great and most timely
job cleaning up our roster this year! :)

If you have any first-person sightings of any of these people at any of
our activities (participation, however slight) :) please let us know.

Last call!
