Org List:

This is the DLV 2016 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg_at_geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.

Moving toward some decisions:

In checking the recent general and special ORG mailings, a tick count of
the suggestions, notes on strong points, preferences, etc. of Thursday
vs. Friday show a three to one tilt toward Thursday.

Unless there are meaningful objections raised over the next special list
cycle, we'll consider Thursday to be our evening of choice for our final
major gathering of 2016 and concentrate our efforts on selecting the
venue(s) and the format of the evening.
. . . . .

Two other venues have been added to our list of possibilities. Both of
these were mentioned in previous mailings and are discussed below.

Thanks to all who have volunteered to do the legwork on our final major
gathering and thanks to those who have provided input and suggestions.

Please keep those cards and letters coming! :)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Reviewing the options:

First, let's consider Margaritaville, The Venue downtown, and Carlos &
Charlies to be out of the running unless someone can show any reasons of
significance why they should be (re)considered.

Let's also consider Buca di Beppo and Hard Rock Casino to be "on the
back burner" to be moved up front if none of the more promising venues
are found to be workable.

This leaves us with Rio, Yardhouse, and possibly Bahama Breeze in
consideration along with Hofbrauhaus and Brooklyn Bowl. Chayo has also
been mentioned and that could indeed be added to our A List if it looks
to be promising.

Here's where each one stands:

1. Rio Hotel & Casino

The big issue of the Rio is a location where our people can socialize
with little formality. This needs to be addressed and answered to our
satisfaction if Rio is to remain in the running. (Hint!) :)
. . . . .

2. Yardhouse

Assuming the preference for Thursday stands, Yardhouse is a very strong
contender. See below.
. . . . .

3. Bahama Breeze

Again, assuming Thursday stands, BB may be an option and the big Gazebo
Room may be available on Thursday.
. . . . .

4. HofbrauHaus

This possibility has been mentioned previously and if they can offer us
something that we can live with, it's definitely in the running. See
below.
. . . . .

5. Brooklyn Bowl

Again, mentioned before and if they're willing to play ball, it may be
one of our stronger options. ("Yeah, what's it to ya?") :) Again, see
below.

Hofbrauhaus:

Vera writes:

Hey Gang,

I'd like to submit another idea...has anyone considered the HofBauhaus?

It has served us in the past for two dinning options.

I see on their website they have two rooms that can accomodate 1000
people. If you want I can contact them and see what they have and how
much it will cost for us to book a room. Let me know if this is
something we would be interested in doing.
. . . . . . . . . .

Annie responds:

Thanks, Vera.

I know this has been mentioned before and yes, I think it has
possibilities.

Please go ahead and make contact. I'm sure you know not to make any hard
commitments until the gang here says to pull the trigger. :)

I'm familiar with their private room, or rather I know where it is and
I've peered into it at times. :) The room appears to be out of immediate
carpet-bombing coverage of the oom-pah band so it should be easy to chat
in there even when the band is going strong.

My hunch is, however (and I hope I am wrong!), that they will try to
push one or more of the usual "one size fits all" group dining
solutions.

If they're willing to work with us regarding what our people need and
want (mainly the option for some to imbibe and socialize without dining)
then this could be a strong possibility.

Thanks for looking into this one. :)

Brooklyn Bowl:

Marisa writes:

The EHM would not work Friday evening because of the puppet show. Dr
Victoria has us set for Wednesday, but Monday or Tuesday evening could
work also.

Quite some time ago I brought up picking 3, 4 or more dining options
near the Linq promenade and then meet at some place like Brooklyn Bowl,
the upstairs patio at Chayo or Yardhouse, if it's big enough.

Brooklyn Bowl has a large bar area at the entrance with a view of the
Linq promenade and a restaurant with 3 dining areas just past the bar.
They also have a big bowling alley just past the restaurant and a big
concert area by the bowling. The bowling and concert area are past the
entrance bar far enough so that it shouldn't be nearly as loud as it was
at D&D several years ago.

Chayo has a nice upstairs patio with a bar that overlooks the promenade,
but could get crowded with much more than 80 people and this could be a
dining option along with dining down stairs too.

Is Yardhouse an option for socailizing after other dining options?
. . . . . . . . . .

Annie responds:

Thanks, Marisa, or rather thanks for reminding us. :)

The big advantage of the Brooklyn Bowl, as with Chayo and the Yardhouse,
is that it's within easy walking distance of the Flamingo, and also the
Paris, assuming you like to walk. :) Very few transportation issues,
coming or going.

Brooklyn Bowl (or Yardhouse) could most definitely work as a final
gathering place following multiple dining options, one of which could
indeed be Brooklyn Bowl itself.

Cami will be touching base with Yardhouse, and if you (or someone else)
want to check out Brooklyn Bowl (and Chayo) please do so and give us a
summary on what you think.

The naming of cats:

Beverly writes: Here's an idea... instead of calling our final get
together "farewell dinner" or something along that line, why don't we
just call it a celebration dinner. We are celebrating the 20 years of
DLV.
. . . . .

JoAnn writes:

Like that idea.

Also opens up some thinking around "celebration"

Dionne writes:

Yes, much better than The Last Supper.LOL

Annie writes:

By jove, I think she's got it! :)

Yardhouse:

Cami writes:

Hi all. After reading all the comments I certainly understand all the
different viewpoints.

Based on all these comments I think that the single track event being
held at the Yardhouse would be great. We can call it the 20th
anniversary celebration which will hopefully attract more people.

Perhaps we can add some entertainment from some of the attendees. I have
put in a call again to the salesperson to clarify some things and will
get back to you hopefully tomorrow.
. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks, Cami.

Please let us know what you find out. :)

Closing Celebration Venue:

Ginger writes:

Of the suggested locations for the closing/celebration venue I don't
care for any of them other than the Rio and Downtown.

This may be colored because of my past experiences with some of the
suggested places and the fact that I am staying at the Rio.

Unfortunately, while I have always enjoyed it, and especially the
buffet, I know little about all it offers.

Downtown has always been a mysterious happening place that I have always
enjoyed, but I know almost nothing about. I'll be happy with what the
local experts decide.

Closing comments:

Katie writes:

Having suggested the Carlos n' Charlies, I only meant it as an
alternative if Margaritaville fell apart and not as a mainstay event so
I haven't really weighed in on the Friday night ender much and as you
say we need input weather it is positive or negative to get us on the
right on track to success for all involved.

I like the idea of Thursday night for the big Do! Especially being a 20
year anniversary of something this good so if nothing else comes up I
will find my own entertainment for Friday, I also like the title too and
I absolutely must have a last opportunity to wear something up scale one
last time! A Celebration dinner sounds like it could be any night of the
week whereas the ender squeaks out as s rather dull and has a bit of a
pall to it. lol.

Having the big bash on Thursday will probably leave some new or even
older but shy attendees out on a limb and feeling a bit left out and
alone on their final night so if we do the big thingy on Thursday, lets
try our best to have something in mind for Friday too! We still have a
few weeks to come up with something easy and a bit laid back which might
entice a few to attend, The Bahama Breeze would not be my choice for
this but it is an easy fix if nothing else comes to mind.

Personally I would like to get together with a small group and do a
final night high end ($35 +or - $2 or $3 lol) dinner together before
flying home. This may sound a bit sectarian and isolating but if we do
Thursday as a big Do then Friday will not hold much interest for me
unless it is something special and out of the ordinary so I would likely
do something like his on Friday.I would likely only go to Bahama Breeze
for the second time in a week on Friday if I was completely lost for
something to do. and I won't be!

Hopefully this helps a little.

Huggers. Katie.
