We sincerely hope that everyone enjoyed (or at least survived) the
holidays!
Now it's time to get crackin! :)
We have 11 full weeks to complete all arrangements for DLV 2015.
However, we have only eight weeks until activity sign-up is scheduled to
open, and as of that time, all activities which require any kind of a
sign-up or headcount need to be solid.
This mailing covers all ORG items received and queued over the holidays.
If you sent in anything and don't see at least a reference to it here,
please remind or resend.
We'll start including the working schedule in these mailings. We'll do a
detailed review of our schedule, where we stand on various items, our
weaker spots, etc. next week.
. . . . . . . . . .
One major item that needs to be solidified very soon is the timing (and
the venues, of course) of our two major gatherings.
Beverly has selected Monday for the opening bash at the Bahama Breeze.
This is right along the line of the preference expressed here during the
recent call for comments.
Discussion on our closing major gathering appears below and comments are
encouraged. We promise you that by simply commenting you will not be
coerced into volunteering to coordinate a high-maintenance activity. :)
. . . . . . . . . .
Registration: If you are a volunteer and have not yet registered, please
do so ASAP. If you need to have your registration e-mail re-sent or if
you didn't get it or need it to be forced, please let us know.
We had one report of non-receipt and one very minor technical issue.
. . . . . . . . . .
As of this morning we have 89 individuals signed up so far. This
includes 17 SOs. It's still far too early for any kind of a headcount
projection. For those keeping score :) this is somewhat higher than
our count at this time last year (81).
"Warm newcomer" registration opens this coming weekend, and a general
mailing will go out this Saturday.
. . . . . . . . . .
The new Internet domain, divalas.vegas, was officially turned on
January 1, 2016. All "official" email should now be coming from
that domain. The old main URL on the web now "bounces" to the new
one and web logs appear normal so far. Some of the items (MyDLV and
some dynamic pages) continue to use the old domain for now.
For those on the ORG list, if you use any kind of email filtering or
screening service, please be sure that the addresses dlv_at_divalas.vegas
and dlvorg_at_divalas.vegas are on your whitelist.
All old email addresses will continue to work as expected for inbound
email.
If anyone notices anything (email, web, etc.) that is not working as
expected, please report it. tech_at_divalas.vegas is the best address to
use when reporting issues, but a report can be made to most any of the
usual addresses.

Mini golf and such:
Dionne writes:
Did someone mention mini-golf?
On my recent trip to Vegas (Dec.10-18) I stopped by a crazy place to
check out the mini-golf
KISS by Monster Mini Golf,
{Relocating in Rio Hotel}
Las Vegas NV 89169
www.monsterminigolf.com
The cost per person is just $11.95 and groups of ten or more get
$3 discount per round, FREE T-shirt for best score in group.
This unique concept combines glow-in-the-dark golf with KISS (American
hard rock band).
They have arcades games, KISS Wedding chapel/ meeting room, memorabilia,
apparel and merchandise.
KISS By Monster Mini Golf is the first-of-its-kind indoor Glow in the
dark custom-designed, Rockin' 18-hole miniature golf course, complete
giant guitars, special effects, a live DJ on the golf course plus a
state-of-the-art arcade, KISS gift shop including autographed items,
KISS Museum, a private VIP Room and FANtastic KISS themed event rooms.
This activity can happen with or without lunch/ dinner as an afternoon
or evening event.
I recommend we consider adding this activity to the DLV 2016 calendar.
Maybe it would go opposite the same timeslot as the golfers playing Red
Rock or ?? It depends on what else is planned. I'm offering to be the
Hostess for this activity.
. . . . . . . . . .
Thanks, Dionne. That is quite affordable and sounds like fun. Please
select a timeslot at any time. Most daytime slots are open at this time.
Since this is (will be) in the Rio, it would pair nicely with Lunch With
at the Rio Buffet.

Farewell dinner and various:
Cami writes:
I wanted to give you a sense of what I would be interested in organizing
this year and to discuss the Farewell dinner.
On one afternoon (Monday if no wig seminar) I would like to have a pool
party at the Flamingo. Weather could be an issue, but we could adapt if
needed. Perhaps a meet and greet kinda event.
Lunch could be available as well as drinks.
I want to run a combined dinner and show one of the nights. It can be
either Tuesday or Wednesday night assuming that the Limo ride is
Thursday night. This will be fairly high end dinner ($75-100) and the
likely show is Matt Franco at The Linq, around $60.
I also want to have an afternoon event at the {Carnaval} Court starting
around 3 PM for drinking and dancing. Probably will last till 5:30 ish.
This could be Thursday or Friday.
I might be willing to help run the Limo Tour if no one else steps up,
however I am in favor of the Party Bus idea over limo's. Way more fun.
We can have the Wig seminar or something equivalent by Wendy as she
wants to come back. Need to see what works for her. Maybe Friday
instead?
One evening for dancing late I would like to go to the dualing New York
New York Piano Bar. This might have a 10 PM start. That could be on
Thursday following the Limo tour? or Friday after party.?
As for the Farewell dinner, I could check back with Margaritaville, I
can check on their check policy and see if we can figure something out
about those that just want to come and not eat and/or drink.
. . . . . . . . . .
Annie responds:
Please join me in thanking Cami for taking the initiative on these
items! Comments on any of these will be appreciated. Don't be shy! :)
Let me respond to some of these items ...
There may be some issues using the Flamingo pool(s). The last I knew the
Flamingo pools were closed to non-Flamingo guests and they were checking
room keys for entrance to the pool area.
Beverly can probably get you the names of some contact people if you
want to try to arrange something to include those without a Flamingo
room key.
At that time of year the highs are usually in the mid 70s. My guess is
that not many will be interested in actually getting in the pool but
something like that for socializing might work very well.
. . . . .
The way it looks to be shaping up, Tuesday will be one of those multi
track "anything can happen" evenings, so dinner/show would be a good
fit. This could also be a second-track option opposite one of the
"anchor" activities on another evening.
. . . . .
Carnaval Court could be about any weekday. The only day I would suggest
avoiding would be Monday, prior to the Welcome Celebration.
. . . . .
We'll definitely use your help for the Limo Tour. We will most likely
start the spin-off dlvlimo list shortly for those who wish to help out
with this.
. . . . .
For any "Personal Improvement" type of session, such as a Wig Seminar
and the planned "Doing Brows" demo and such, I would strongly suggest
doing them as early in the week as possible, considering the special
circumstances this year, of course. Turnout for daytime activities is
typically better earlier in the week, plus the early timing allows those
who participate to benefit for the rest of the event.
Now, having said that, I would avoid Monday this year. That will be a
travel day for some and a Monday afternoon timeslot will not get the
best turnout. IMAO, Tuesday would be ideal. :)
. . . . .
Late night dancing venues will be the choice of those volunteering to
coordinate the sessions. We do want to have a consistent start time
across the days if at all possible and 10:00pm is what we've used in the
past for a posted start time.
The Limo Tour typically does not wind up until after our dance session
is well underway. :)
. . . . .
Saved the best for last! :)
Let's open this one up for discussion, but we don't want to let it drag
on. :) We need to make plans.
Farewell evening:
I'm assuming that most of us are on the same page in that Saturday will
be kind of a wind-down day and not the best day for some kind of a
maximum-turnout single-track evening. There's no definite consensus, but
the preference appears to be for Friday for the closing bash.
Two different types of a closing evening have been discussed:
1. Single-venue HH, Dinner, and closing festivities, somewhere in the
vicinity of the Flamingo/Linq.
2. Multi-track HH and Dinner, followed by a single-track closing
get-together in the vicinity of the Flamingo/Linq.
Yes, Margaritaville could work, if they choose to think outside the box
and allow those not dining to attend to imbibe and socialize. They have
the advantage that they (usually) have a band beginning at 9:00pm or so,
so that could be our Late Night Dancing venue on that evening as well.
Another venue in the vicinity that keeps coming up is Yardhouse, which
is supposedly under the same ownership/management as Bahama Breeze. We
might be able to leverage our relationship with BB to get some decent
terms. IMAO, Yardhouse would probably work fine for either a single
venue dinner and social activity or as a final common gathering place
after dinner.
(Late update: Cami is reporting that there may be difficulties using the
Yardhouse on Friday.)
Beverly could possibly get us some suggestions from her contact people
at the Flamingo regarding final evening venues. I know I mentioned it to
them that morning at KKK, but I was not totally awake so I don't really
remember what they said. :)
As a review of the check-splitting issue, here's the summary of the
first choices listed on the survey WRT splitting of checks:
+If separate checks are not available at a Diva Las Vegas dining
+activity, what would you prefer as an alternative to the one check
+per table situation?
+37 No alternative. I have no problem with splitting checks.
+10 Offer a fixed-price party menu with a few entree choices.
+10 Offer a fixed-price self-service buffet.
+8 Assist with the dividing of checks.
+5 Forget it! I'll just eat on my own.

EHM:
Marisa writes
Do we have plans for a EHM activity? Dr Victoria told me that
reservations for the museum are filling up!
. . . . . . . . . .
Dionne writes:
On Dec. 14, I visited the EHM to review the recent changes to the
facility since it is always changing and with the new theatre for the
Puppetry show.
In the area some will remember as the cafe, there is now a theater with
seating up to 150 people. There is a small stage with lighting and sound
equipment. There are risers with folding chairs that are movable so we
can rearrange them, as desired.
The luncheon/discussion with Dr. Victoria I hosted this year could be
held in this area by arranging the chairs for a small group.
. . . . . . . . . .
Annie responds:
Here are my thoughts regarding EHM involvement this year.
First and foremost: We want a turnout that gives our people a good sized
crowd to mingle with, leading to a high degree of personal enjoyment and
satisfaction. We also want, of course, a turnout that gives a very good
"door" to EHM.
Ginger's Principle "Keep It Simple" should definitely apply!
I am suggesting to you (and to the others involved with the EHM
activity) that we put all of our "EHM energy" this year into one
singular activity of an appropriate length at an appropriate time.
For our optimum turnout, this means evening.
I suggest we keep the "edgy" aspect to this, with a liberal dress code
and a cash bar. Entertainment in the form of a self-produced show or an
entertainer, such as we had in 2013, would add to the draw.
I know you may wish to do a daytime Lunch With Dr. V. session, and it's
really your call, but I would suggest rolling all of it into one larger
activity to eliminate any "been there, done that" fatigue and to hit the
peak of the enjoyment and attention spans of our people.
. . . . .
Now, to all: "Can We Tawk?"
(DLV Project Manager's hat on)
A concern has been raised to us (the PM Team) that there are now three
DLV volunteers contacting Dr. Victoria and the EHM staff regarding what
will be the same activity or set of activities. This is resulting in
confusion as to what is officially being planned or proposed on our
behalf.
Officially, Dionne has "First Refusal Rights" for the EHM activity this
year and she has chosen not to refuse, so she is our official go-between
person for EHM for 2016.
If you wish to be involved in the planning of the EHM activity or
activities, please work with Dionne on it, using her as our official
go-between.
Let's please work together for an EHM activity that our people will
enjoy and one that will benefit EHM without "wearing out our welcome"
with Dr. Victoria and the others on the staff.
You can do a "divide and conquer" type of thing if you wish, such as one
person concentrating on entertainment, another on a swap meet or similar
item, etc.
If you need any help with communication, from exchange of email
addresses, an ad-hoc mailing list, a conference bridge for a real-time
planning call, please let us know and anything like this can happen.
(DLV Project Manager's hat off)
Thanks for your cooperation on this! :)

Limo, Dessert, and Volunteer Luncheon:
JoAnn writes:
I would consider, given concurrence from the Org Team, to coordinate
the following---
(1) Doing the Limo Tour with Annie and another volunteer. I would
keep it to three stops and 7 individual Limos with a new theme.
(2) Doing an afternoon desert event at the Wynn as an alternative to
High Tea. But if someone wishes to do High Tea I will support them and
drop the Wynn venue.
(3) Doing a lunch at for volunteers [location to be selected] with
two fixed menus.
. . . . . . . . . .
Annie responds:
Thanks, Joann.
Yes, I'll volunteer to help you with the Limo Tour. Cami has volunteered
as well so we have a team assembled.

Flamboyance Drag Show:
Dionne writes:
> I believe the hostess for this activity was Dionne kandi Piper
You are correct, I was the hostess for {DLV} 2015.
This was a fun activity but I'm not planning on hostessing it for 2016.
I took on too many activities in 2015 so this is one I suggest someone
else take on.
Also, I'm allergic to the smoke you mention.
This activity was rated highly in our survey and should be included in
our 2016 calendar.
IMHO.This is a shovel ready activity that any hostess can handle.
Thursday night, March 31, 2016 @ 11 pm Stephanie Danderson is the the
Hostess for this Drag Show; http://flamboyanceshow.com/ Flex Cocktail

Thanks, Dionne.
Vera has indicated that she might want to take this one.
Vera, your contact info is above. Please confirm if you will be doing
this. It's a very easy one. Just agree to be there and head up the DLV
Hospitality. :)

Ballroom dancing:
Dionne writes:
I recommend adding this dance studio to the DLV Big List. I visited them
on Dec. 11, 2015 and attended their Friday dance party/lesson.
I was greeted warmly, took the lesson and stayed for the dance party. I
was the first Gal to be asked to dance on the first tune of that night.
I met the owner, Rosemary who is TG positive and inclusive. This place
gets 10/10 rating.

I can teach a dance lesson here when we have enough interest as a DLV
event.
. . . . . . . . . .
We've had dance instruction in the past, but not for 10 years or so.
When it happened, there was definitely enough interest to make it work.
