Dates and such:

The big news this week, of course, it that the DLV date vote is
complete. We do have a clear majority on the second round of voting
and we hope it's a set of dates that everybody can live with.

For those who can't wait to scroll down, the selected dates are Monday
March 28 thru Saturday, April 2.

The PM Team would like to thank everyone for their participation and
patience in this process. See details below.

We now move on to formulating a strategy for our selected dates.
. . . . .

All material received by Tuesday, September 22, appears in this mailing.

If you sent in something and do not see at least a reference to it,
please send in a reminder.
. . . . .

No significant news on the Jenner front. The consensus among all is that
if Ms. Jenner wishes to attend, we'll resume efforts along that line at
the time she states so.
. . . . .

We're planning a one-shot survey for the Teeming Millions, to open in
the next few weeks and to be announced (among other places) in the
general mailing which announces our dates as final. This will
concentrate on two topics:

1. Splitting of checks.
2. Hotel preferences.

We'll most likely have the ORG group be the test audience for this.
. . . . .

On another subject, Pinkfest 2015 (our 15th. year!) happens in only
three weeks in Chicago! If you can't wait for DLV, this is your chance.
Several people on this list are all set to attend. We would love to have
you with us!

DLV 2016 date vote results:

Votes are in and polls are closed on our second round of voting. Here
are the totals:

Monday March 28 thru Saturday, April 2.: 13
Sunday April 3 thru Friday, April 8.: 9
Abstain: 0
Invalid: 0
Duplicate: 1

Last vote was dated Tue, 22 Sep 2015 06:16:21 PDT and polls were closed
at that time on Thursday morning.

Therefore, assuming no serious objections are received, the dates of DLV
2016 will be from Monday March 28 thru Saturday, April 2.

As is our custom, a one-month "Call For Comments" period is now open,
to conclude on or about October 24, at which time the dates will be
considered final.

The dates have been marked as tentative on the DLV web site. A general
mailing announcing the tentative dates will be sent out very shortly.

The customary caveat, of course, please do not make any nonrefundable
arrangements until the dates are final.
. . . . .

The first round of voting gave us no majority and a tie for first place.
Here are tne numbers for the first round:

Monday March 28 thru Saturday, April 2.: 10
Sunday April 3 thru Friday, April 8.: 10
Sunday April 24 thru Friday, April 29.: 3
Sunday, May 15 thru Friday, May 20.: 1
Abstain: 0
Invalid: 1

Last vote on the first round was dated Mon 14 Sep 2015 14:29:07 MST/PDT,
polls were closed at that time on Wednesday and the second round was
opened at that time.

One invalid vote was received on the first round. Clarification was
requested but not received. This particular vote could not have affected
the outcome.

Raw votes for both rounds appear below.

Monday - Saturday timeframe:

Annie writes:

We've voted to hold DLV within a Monday to Saturday timeframe in 2016.
This particular span of weekdays has not happened since 2009.

Our job in the immediate future is to formulate a strategy for planning
our schedule within that span of days.

In particular, we want to plan for our two major gatherings in a manner
that encourages maximum turnout and participation.

In the three years that we had a Monday thru Saturday span of weekdays
(2007-2009) we always had our big opening celebration on Monday, once at
Suede/Blyss (or whatever they were calling it that week) and twice at
the now-closed Blue Ox. This first major gathering always had a very
good turnout, as it has in all years when we held a big opening bash.
One item of trivia is that the 2008 opening celebration was the first
single DLV activity having a headcount of over 100!

In those years we also held our closing bash on Saturday evening, once
at the now-closed Elvis' and twice at Bahama Breeze. Although we did get
moderately-good turnouts, we were plagued with comments of weak ("fizzle
out") endings during those years, and we noticed a significant departure
of many of our people on Friday during the day.

During the years of 2010 to 2013, we had very strong endings, in all
years at Bahama Breeze, and in those years we observed that our people
would tend to be willing to stay over Friday night. That trend has
reversed in the two most recent years, as we've seen more significant
departures on Friday and less-than-expected turnout at the ending bash
during 2014 and 2015.

The floor is now open for discussion on our overall daily strategy, in
particular, the weekdays on which to place our major gatherings.

One goal, in particular, is to facilitate as good a turnout as is
possible for our two major gatherings.

We would particularly like to hear from those who, in recent years, have
departed prior to our final gathering and/or did not attend the final
gathering for some other reason.

Various items:

I agree we are a vacation, not a convention. I'm not real keen on the
idea of a celebrity speaker, or a panel, regardless of who might be on
it. It still smacks of formality to me. I feel the best way to get to
know one another is to do just that. I don't think we should be focused
on a few.

Yes I have my stories to share. I don't need an official platform. Want
to get to know me. Spend an hour with me. I promise it will be a two way
street. I would like to get to know you better as well.

I feel that one will get to know me much better after an hour of lunch
with me, than me standing on a stage. Yes I like to take the stage every
so often, but I don't think DLV is the place for it. OK off my soap box
now.

> I mentioned before, I think the only way to her there is to have
> her TV show film a segment there.

I'm really not on board with this. Again, it looks sounds and smells too
much like a convention. Doesn't really matter where it is, just the same
old thing in a different package.

> I would not attend the reception, as a matter of fact, it just
> might be reason enough not to attend dive 2016 at all.

I agree here, I live in Las Vegas so I would probably still attend other
parts of DLV as my commute is only maybe three miles. Still, I really
think the vacation spirit of DLV should be preserved. Thanks.

I agree, let's put this issue to bed and move on with the business of
planning and preparing for DLV 2016.
. . . . .

I appreciate the initiative of several people trying to put together
deals that can help make DLV more affordable. I am concerned that we
could be spreading ourselves too thin with multiple hotel offers. And I
am of the understanding that if the minimum number of room nights isn't
met, the coordinator could be held liable for the difference. (Am I
right or wrong here?) I'd really hate to see that happen. DLV is a
vacation and no one should have to endure the stress of a possible
financial hit.

Yes I am local. I'm still on the fence about taking a room for myself. I
think the Flamingo deal looks like the best overall package, and I'd
like to see concentrated support for it.

For the most part, the old saying goes, you get what you pay for.
. . . . . . . . . .

Annie responds:

First of all, the Jenner item is on the back burner, to be revisited if
and only if circumstances should substantially change.

For an interesting aside to the Jenner issue, www.predictit.org (an
arguably-legal betting market) is laying odds on whether Caitlyn Jenner
will speak at the Republican National Convention. The odds have been
strongly against until this last week, when they spiked to .25. Here's
the link in case anyone is interested:

https://www.predictit.org/Contract/837/Will-Caitlyn-Jenner-address-the-2016-Republican-National-Convention-in-2016

As for hotels, with the arrangement last yeat at the Flamingo, yes, the
Coordinator (in this case Beverly) was personally responsible if a
certain minimum was not met. Fortunately she did not have any difficulty
"cracking the nut" last year and I'm sure she will work the numbers this
year toward a minimal risk.

With the proposed arrangement at the Super-8, at least the way I
understand it, no personal funds will be at risk, should we choose to
make that one of our suggested hotels.

It should be noted that as an "Informal Association" (the term for a
group such as ours which has no definite legal standing) our individuals
are in many cases personally responsible for the debts they incur on
behalf of the group, and that in a few cases, yes, a "bath" has been
taken! :( In the case of a major activity, we've often times had several
agree to "share in the bath" should such a soaking occur.

Restaurants:

Katie writes:

Hi Gang.

I was in Vegas last week and did a bit of researching into restaurants
etc'.

We stayed for 5 days at The Flam' and it was above 100 every day!

Vegas is not in trouble girls. It was busy. Having given more thought to
a September DLV I withdraw my DLV at Labor day suggestion forever, if
anyone even remembers it. *lol*. I think it would be way too hot for a
week long T gathering and stressful activities would not go down well
with 105 F.

Nnyhoo.... While we were there I looked a a few places which might be of
interest to DLVers.

Lilly Langtre's Chinese restaurant in the Nugget does not exist anymore
so that's out. I did however talk to the head waiter at Sea in Bally's
which is a Thai restaurant and quite reasonable in their prices. He
assured me that if we had up to 12 or so they could probably do
individual checks for us. Just a thought to dwell on girls, Not an
essential but all the other places I talked to produced menus which
would likely scare off those who are not in the Very political 1% of the
populace.

The Italian place in the palms seems quite decent too and The Palms (if
you have not visited there before and I know that most tourists stay on
the Strip more so than explore the rest of town) has very modern decor
and is a great place to gamble and generally hang out. It is a *semi
locals casino* so the odds are better than the Strip too!

I do not personally want to Hostess a dining out experience and would
only want to assist someone else who was running something like this as
I think I am involved enough for my capabilities already so anyone,
please feel free to use these ideas if you feel the need to for 2016.
. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks, Katie.

At this time there appears to be no significant movement to move the
date span of our event outside of the spring months, although it does
appear to be creeping earlier in the year as the years go by.

The suggestion of the restaurants, particularly the one that is willing
to do separate checks for a mid-size group, is appreciated. We'll most
likely have one evening centered around downtown, and that's definitely
an option we should check into.
