Org List:
This is the DLV 2015 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg_at_geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.

Beginning the wrap-up:
Some of you may have already seen this mailing. Due to a technical
issue, about 150 members of the main DLV mailing list received a draft
copy of this mailing last Monday instead of the intended general
mailing.
A resend of the general mailing was made to the affected list members.
. . . . . . . . . .
First and foremost! Big thanks to all who worked hard to make our 2014
event the success that it was!
Relatively few complaints were heard and everyone involved deserves
thanks and congratulations for another totally high-class event! :)
Most of the usual post-DLV items are currently underway and running
fairly smoothly.
We're now in the "debrief" phase of the plan-brief-execute-debrief cycle
so now is the time to review, analyze, and think critically about all
aspects. For those of you who wish to share your thoughts and
experiences about our event in general, or about the various activities,
please write them up and send them in.
We're asking all of you to help clean up and finalize our attendance
roster. Please look at the "Missing In Action" section below and respond
if you are listed on it and did attend, or if you have any certain first
person sightings that you wish to report.
Also, please send in your activity reports. :) What worked? What did not
work? What lessons were learned? Do your activities warrant a re-run in
2016? :)
. . . . . . . . . .
As of this writing, 50-some responses to our follow-up survey are in.
If you attended and have not taken the survey, please do so. Surf here:
http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/2015survey.html
If you have taken the survey and wish to add additional written
comments, please re-visit the above link, leave all of the checkboxes
blank, scroll down directly to the comment boxes, and add your comments.
Please don't forget to click the "SUBMIT" button. :)

Let's talk about numbers:
Annie writes:
The one thing that is very obvious to me and to many of you who attended
is that our total headcount was down this year. My best guess as of this
time is that when the stragglers are accounted for, we'll be somewhere
in the 130s for a total show-up count, or about 20-some down from last
year, roughly a 12-dot-something percent decrease in total attendance
from 2014..
Another pattern that was noticed as the registrations came in was a very
significant "roll-off" toward the end of the week, with many departures
taking place on Thursday or during the day Friday.
While some of you may be concerned about the decrease in attendance, I'm
not that concerned about it. Every other major TG event that I'm aware
of has been reporting lower numbers over the past few years. While many
of the other events are facing a significant struggle to stay above
water, we're holding our own and thriving.
We did break 100 at our opening gathering, and most of our other
activities had perfectly respectable show-up counts.
. . . . . . . . . .
As for the recurring activities, I only attended one KKK, but it had a
good turnout of about 12.
Lunch Without Ginger seemed to hold its own this year, with only one
session (Tuesday) reporting a disappointing turnout.
Our Afternoon Social had mixed turnouts, with the population increasing
as the week went on, with good showings on Thursday and Friday.
Dancing At Paris had great showings on Monday and Friday, and reasonably
good turnouts on the other evenings.
Almost every activity I attended had a meaningful turnout and a noted
level of enthusiasm.
. . . . . . . . . .
As to the activities I was personally involved with, here's a recap.
Sunday, March 22:
6:00pm: Denny's Happy Hour (Denny's Neonopolis) - ms
7:00pm: Denny's Dining Option (Denny's Neonopolis) - ms
We had 22 total, but not all at one time. The group took up several of
the bar seats and spilled out to at least three tables.
8:30pm: Fremont Street Experience (Fremont Street Experience) - ms
Our group was not that obvious on Fremont Street (that is a good thing),
but I do understand that quite a few ventured out and about. I did
receive one phone call asking where the group was, to which I replied
split up all over, and I suggested either Denny's or Brass Lounge as a
meet point.
10:00pm: "Softer" Common Gathering (Denny's Neonopolis) - ms
It was a smaller group after Fremont Street, but we did have a nice
gathering with good drinks and enjoyable company. :)
Tuesday, March 24:
5:00pm: Afternoon Social (Chayo at the Linq) - ms
This was the only activity I was involved with which had a turnout less
than I was hoping for. Several of the group activities on Tuesday did
report a lower turnout.
Thursday, March 26:
12:00n: Lunch With Ginger (Flamingo Buffet) - ms
Good turnout and great food. Flamingo Buffet is a bit spendy for some,
but it did work out fine on Monday and Thursday. I think we had a good
mix of consistency and variety for LWG this year. The poor turnout on
Tuesday appears to be a one-off. As I think back I do prefer the earlier
noon start time.
5:00pm: Afternoon Social (Chayo at the Linq) - ms
Much better turnout than on Tuesday. Very relaxing and enjoyable
session. LOL, the 2-fers gave me more of an early buzz than I was
expecting. :)
Friday, March 27:
12:00n: Lunch With Ginger (Fashion Show Mall Food Court) - ms
We filled three tables up front, very obvious to anyone coming up the
escalator. The big advantage to a food court such as this is that
there's something there for every taste and for every pocketbook. The
disadvantage is that it can be scary for newbees, and our group was very
heavily weighted toward the veterans.
5:00pm: Afternoon Social (Chayo at the Linq) - ms
Again, we had a good turnout, with some leaving early and others joining
later.
9:30pm: Official Group Photo (Trevi - Caesars) - ms
We decided on the fly not to do this. Some of the group had departed and
the herding of cats was deemed too intense. :) :) :)
10:00pm: Dancing at Paris (Paris - Cabaret Lounge) - ms
GREAT turnout for our final evening! We captured almost 50% of those who
attended the final activities at Trevi. The DAP for a recurring late
evening activity is definitely a winner.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Moving forward:
Our "jobs" over the next few weeks include the following:
1. Final summarizing of the 2015 event. Lessons learned, etc.
2. Activity reports. Send 'em in! :) :)
3. Clean-up of the ORG mailing list. This will begin in a few weeks..
4. Reviewing of the DLV 2015 survey results. (Closes April 30.)
5. Confirmation of the DLV 2016 leadership.
6. Election of the "Odd Year" Administrative Committee member.
7. Addition of the DLV 2016 volunteers.
8. Preparing the DLV 2016 electorate (voting status) list.
9. Beginning the planning of the 2016 event!
If there are any other items which need our attention in the immediate
future, please don't be silent. :)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Issues, incidents, complaints:
Over the week, I heard more b*tching about the splitting of checks, or
rather the lack of same, than I have heard in any prior year, and more
than about any other issue this year!
IMAO, if lack of separate checks is the most significant issue of DLV
2015, we had a very successful and trouble-free event!
. . . . .
BDR issues:
These always get more than their fair share of attention, however, this
year I'm unaware of any restroom issues or incidents at all!
I did field a few various complaints and issues. Let's discuss.
1. Thursday at Dancing At Paris. I was officially the HBIC, and an
attendee (did not recognize, not sure of the name) came up to me. The
conversation went something like this:
She: Who is in charge?
Me: I guess I am, what's going on?
She: What's with the cigar? (pointing at one of our attendees)
Me: Uh, I don't really know (or something like that).
She: It stinks, and looks like sh*t.
Me: I would agree on both parts.
She: Is it against the rules?
Me: I don't really know, do you want me to say anything?
She: I don't want to cause trouble, just want you to know about it.
I don't really know what to do about this, if anything. This was the
only BDR (specifically B) item I was in any way involved with for this
year.
. . . . .
2. At the High Roller dinner at Flour and Barley.
There was a misunderstanding and some disappointment as to how checks
were to be given to our people. (One per table, vs. separate.) One of
our people became very upset, summoned the Manager, became hostile and
aggressive, dropped f-bombs, etc.
This was very embarrassing to the Coordinator and others in our group.
The Coordinator did apologize to management, but unfortunately was
informed of restrictions on our group (menu, deposit) should we decide
to return to the establishment. :(
The last I heard on this, the Coordinator was considering making a
"decline to re-register" motion to our Administrative Committee.
. . . . .
3. I fielded a rather vocal complaint from one new attendee regarding
the length of and the verbosity of our mailings. I asked for specific
examples of material presented which was unnecessary for the attendees
to know and she could not immediately cite any.
I offered her a position on our Proofread Team, with the specific job of
identifying items which are not necessary for the attendees to know.
Let's see how that works out. :)

Bare Minerals report for DLV 2015:
Dionne writes:
For DLV 2015 I was the Hostess for 5 events, including the Bare Minerals
(BM) makeup sessions.
The BM Appointment Registration was better controlled this year by
requiring the DLV'rs phone# for signup and having them expect a
confirmation call from the store manager, Cindy. This worked out well
with only two No-Shows out of the 19 appts.
ResultsThe number of appts this year was down significantly from last
years' 31 appts. The total sales for this year was also down from last
year. I also noticed some attendees left my Tuesday luncheon & workshop to
go to their MU appt. This apparent scheduling conflict was not necessary
since the MU appts could be scheduled at any time.
Suggestions for Improvement Rather than have fixed appt. times, let the
appts. float. DLV'rs can schedule around other activities as they want.
Other suggestions are welcome.
. . . . . . . . . .
Annie responds.
Thanks, Dionne.
On Tuesday of DLV week I stopped in to BE/BM just to touch base and see
how things were going. I spoke to Cindy and one other SA. They said that
things were going quite well. I inquired specifically about no-shows and
they said that our no-show level was down around that which they would
otherwise see with their non-DLV customers.
As for suggestions, whether or not you do appointments on the DLV
schedule again, I do think that at least one line item does need to
appear on our schedule. Many of our people, particularly the ones who
are new and would benefit most from something like this are far too shy
to stop in unnanounced or make a cold call for an appointment. I might
suggest some kind of an Open House earlier in the week, at which they
can set up appointments for makeovers.
