Org List:
This is the DLV 2015 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg_at_geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Welcome back:
We sincerely hope that everyone enjoyed the holidays!
Now it's out of the frying pan and into the fire regarding DLV planning
and programming.
We have 10 full weeks to complete all arrangements for DLV 2015.
However, we have only seven weeks until activity sign-up is scheduled to
open, and as of that time, all activities which require any kind of a
sign-up or headcount need to be solid.
This mailing covers all ORG items received and queued over the holidays.
If you sent in anything and don't see at least a reference to it here,
please remind or resend.
Please be proactive: We are asking all of you who are involved in any
activities which have been placed on the schedule as tentative to please
give us a status report within the next list cycle (one week). We have
some tentative items which need clarification in order to move forward
with scheduling.
Also, we ask all to please sanity check the schedule, checking to be
sure that everything that should be scheduled is scheduled, and that
any obvious conflicts or other issues are reported.
We will do a detailed schedule review next week.
. . . . . . . . . .
Closing gathering: One major item, probably the most single important
item as of this time, is the major closing gathering. Please see
discussion and pending motion below.
. . . . . . . . . .
Registration: If you are a volunteer and have not yet registered, please
do so ASAP. If you need to have your registration e-mail re-sent or if
you didn't get it or need it to be forced, please let us know.
. . . . . . . . . .
As of this morning we have 81 individuals signed up so far. This
includes 14 SOs. It's still far too early for any kind of a headcount
projection. Yes, for those keeping score :) this is slightly lower than
our count at this time last year (86/12). One factor that may be in play
is that this year we excluded a number of "chronic no-shows" from the
re-registration mailing. "Warm newcomer" sign-up starts this coming
weekend.
For those of you using the "DLVR" reports, the summary error at the
bottom has been corrected and all of the test attendees except for one
("Fnordia") have been removed. (Hmmmm ... Quite a few from Canada signed
up, eh.)

Bahama Breeze ending:
Bob writes:
Carmines was a mistake. BB has never been a mistake. As far as repeats,
isnt dancing at Paris every night a repeat? I'm not sure if my health
will permit me to host, but I might be willing the co-host.
. . . . .
Robyn writes:
Has everybody forgot the reason we hold the farewell on Friday at BB. It
is that it is one of there slowest days and the management can give us
our musician and the great room. That is a direct quote from management.
. . . . .
Katie writes:
If voting on this is where we are at the moment then I would say No to
Friday night at the BB. It is a much better place to open the week than
to close it and using the same place would send me off to somewhere else
for the Friday evening. and I am sure there will be others who think the
same way.
I like BB and we already know that they will treat us well but I would
not want to cram 2 nights out at the same joint withing the span of 6
days.
Friday night is traditionally the night where the LA crowd comes to town
in droves so finding a relatively private location for a group as large
as ours could be difficult but we have 3 months to think of something.
The best I can come up with is the Hoffenbrau. but we need more
suggestions from interested people who will be staying past Friday night
so that we will have something to compare it with and we ware running
out of time. IE:--3 Months left to DLV and logically only about 1 month
to finalize a definite location for Friday night so we better get moving
on this one.
In my opinion we definitely need a separate location for kick off night
and final goodbye night so I will kick this off....>>> Can the Hoff'
accommodate us and will everyone be happy about it?
. . . . . . . . . .
Annie responds:
Our traditional ending gathering needs to be one of our highest
priorities at this time, if it is indeed to happen this year.
We have a pending motion to hold this at the Bahama Breeze. In order to
bring this motion forward, we will need a volunteer to agree to take the
lead on this.
This person will need to be willing to contact the venue (we will give
you contact info), check for availability, push back (if you choose to
do so) when the venue tries for a limited menu, and creatively side-step
any deposits/guarantees/minima/etc.
Volunteers?

HofbrauHaus for major gathering:
Katie writes:
Closer/opener.
Would the Hoffenbrau be a viable alternative to the Bahama Breeze as the
opener or closer.
If we dress to the nines for BB which is a nice idea it might be a good
closer but also would be a great way to kick off the week too.
>From what I have read in our newsletters the Hoff' could fit the bill as
it is friendly towards us and seems to have the capacity for a decent
sized event too.
I must say though that I like the BB as a starter event for the week
more than a closer event if it comes to a vote. (not wanting to repeat
myself. this is for all the same reasons reasons I gave last year along
with several others who were on the same page so top speak)
So how how about the Hoff then?
By the time our newly out and about girls have done almost a week in
public they should be ready for a cab ride to paradise rd and the
exposure at the hoffenbrau.
don't you agree?
. . . . . . . . . .
Annie responds:
Yes, I agree. :)
If I remember the layout of HofbrauHaus, there is a large separate room
to the rear, kind of in the center of the main dining area. This should
be able to hold our group.
The sound of the Oom-Pah band may be a concern, as it is particularly
loud in the southwest corner of the main hall. I don't remember if the
separate dining area has a door or not, but I would suspect that the
music level is lower in that area.
I can envision this as working as either an opening or closing major
gathering, but I think the better fit would be on the closing evening.
If it's to happen, it's going to require a volunteer to take the lead on
it and basically go through the same steps as outlined above for the BB.
Any volunteers for the HofbrauHaus?

Brazilian dining:
Vera writes:
Dennis and I are willing to host an evening dinner option at the Texas
of Brazil steakhouse either Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday.
. . . . . . . . . .
Thanks, Vera.
As of this time all three evenings (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) are
open for an additional dining option. Thursday is somewhat iffy, but we
are still several weeks out. Please let us know what works best for you
two.

Two more proposed activities for DLV 2015:
Dionne writes:
Happy New Year to All of DLV!
Some of you may know or have heard about Stephanie Sanderson who does
Trans MU services. I have seen several DLV gals who have been worked on
by Stephanie and they looked great. Now, she has opened up her own shop
and wants to hold an Open House on Thursday of DLV 2015 week. Yes, there
are some planned activities on Thursday so Let's discuss this one
together. I'm helping her since she's not computer savvy.
Here are her proposed activities:
Open House, Thursday afternoon, March 26, 2015, 2-5 PM N2 the Looking
Glass http://www.n2thelookingglass.co/ Stephanie Sanderson, MU &
Transformation Services phone: 702-275-3246 email: lvmakeupsteph_at_aol.com
address: 3610 South Highland, Suite C between Spring Mountain and
Twain..off of Polaris. (it is the old Power Exchange building.)
-Meet & Greet Stephanie, Transformation services, Showcase previous work
-2pm (after lunch) until 5 pm (before Dinner) Open House hours
-Keep it simple, just wine & cheese reception. soft drinks, chips,
crackers & etc.
-MU appts. available that day, Optional live demo of MU transformation
-Optional sales discount for attending this Open House 702-275-3246
Thursday night, March 26, 11 pm Stephanie Sanderson is the the Hostess
for this Drag Show; http://flamboyanceshow.com/ Flex Cocktail Lounge,
4371 W. Charleston at Arville 702-385-3539 Not a typical Drag show. They
have Celebrity look-alikes, Fairy tales, and more. NO Cover Charge
. . . . . . . . . .
Annie responds:
Thanks Dionne.
We'll get the Open House on the schedule. Please consider that a done
deal. No conflicts or issues that I can see.
As for Thursday evening, as you know, there are many "IFs" outstanding.
To move forward with Thursday evening's plans, first we need an update
from Holly WRT the tentative Big Wheel activity, and in addition we need
an update from the task force doing the EHM/KOH activities.
All of these could have some interdependency, plus I can foresee a
conflict if a Flex Drag Show and a KOH Fantasy Ball are scheduled
against each other in the same timeslot.
Updates please. :)

Solo challenges:
I think it is important for newbies to set goals to achieve
self-confidence in dressing. It occurred to me that some activities
might go better as solo or duo. Maybe these could be called, DLV TG
Challenges (or something). Some sample challenges are:
1. Visit the LINQ Auto collection (Beginner level) The Auto Collections
@ the LINQ Hotel & Casino 3535 Las Vegas Blvd. SouthLas Vegas, Nevada
89109 Phone: 702-794-3174 Web Site: www.autocollections.com free coupon

2. Try on gowns at Rent The Runway (Intermediate level) (No cost) The
Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas 3708 Las Vegas Blvd. South, Level 2Las Vegas,
NV 89109 Mon - Thurs: 11am - 10pm Fri - Sat: 10am - 10pm Sunday: 11am -
8pm Phone ahead if you wear plus sizes so they can make some stock
available Email: vegas_at_renttherunway.com phone: 702.698.2500
3. Get a bra fitting at Victoria Secret (Intermediate level) Fashion
Show Mall, 3200 South Las Vegas Boulevard, Las Vegas, NV (702) 369-0110
Go for this after you get your Bare Minerals makeup session.
More ideas are welcome.
. . . . . . . . . .
Annie responds:
If I'm hearing you correctly, you are proposing that we do not place
these on the schedule, but instead offer them as "suggestions" for those
who wish to do them on their own.
Or are you proposing a more structured thing where a mentor or (for lack
of a better term) Big Sister accompanies the newbee(s) and supports and
assists?
If the former, let's take this as an opportunity to re-open the
discussion along this line. In the last go-round, there were two
opposing schools of thought:
1. Why not? Our people need things to do to occupy their time.
2. If it's important enough to suggest, it's important enough to put it
on our schedule.
My personal opinion, but I'm not everyone, is more along the line with
#2, but with the thought that if we prepared such a list, it would take
resources and would duplicate such things as what's already pre-screened
on our Big List, and what's available at any concierge desk.
IMAO, all three of the proposed activities above would make excellent
informal daytime activities and would take a very minimum of effort to
coordinate.
If I'm hearing your intent correctly, it is to build confidence and
mainstream experience by getting our newer people out and about.
Knowing how our people tend to behave, however, we've found that in most
cases it takes far more than a list of suggestions to get them out when
they would be going solo.
I can envision smaller groups of close friends doing any of the above on
their own, but not those who have not established close circles of
friends, who are really the ones we need to reach out to.
If it's to be a more structured thing, it could easily give a newbee
or newbees a nudge to get more familiar with and more comfortable in
mainstream public.

Hair, nails, and Giada:
Cami writes:
I just wanted to give you an update and mention a few things that I
would like to propose to the group. I will be attending as it turns out.
Yahoo.
I have been in touch with Wendy and she is willing to do 2 things. One
would be to do nails for some of the participants, maybe even more than
one day. It would likely be done in her hotel room.
She also is willing to do another wig seminar and sell wigs after, as
she did last year. It would seem to make sense for both of those to be
scheduled early in the week.
. . . . .
I would also like to host a higher end dinner at Giada's new restaurant
in the new Cromwell Casino Hotel.
>From there I would like to host and attend the Raiding The Rock Vault
concert at the Tropicana. Looks very entertaining.
Not sure which night works best but obviously it would be either Sunday,
Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday nights. I don't have the current schedule
of events in front of me so we can plug it in where it fits best.
I am also still thinking about doing the pinball museum. That could be
held some mid afternoon. Love to hear your thoughts and those of others.
. . . . . . . . . .
Annie responds:
Thanks, Cami.
Let's touch on each of these items.
First, we're all glad that you are going to be able to make it! :)
For a Wig Seminar early in the week, both Sunday and Monday afternoon
would be good, but Monday would be better due to Sunday being an arrival
day for many of our people. We do have Bare Escentuals makeovers on
Monday (and Tuesday) but those are very limited in capacity. Tuesday has
another commercial activity in the afternoon and we want to give each
one of these a "clear channel" in their timeslot, so overall, Monday
would be best for this.
As for nail appointments, those could be done about any time.
. . . . .
As for Giada (I understand she's single again and on the market) :) we
already have two higher-end dining options on Tuesday, so it would be a
much better fit some other day. Sunday would be good for Giada, but
again this is an arrival day for a good number of our folks. Wednesday
and Thursday are very iffy as of this writing, but we should have a much
better handle on those days in a couple of weeks. As it sits currently,
Giada's would work just fine as a second-track option opposite PF Chang
on Wednesday or Trevi on Thursday.
IIAC, Giada's wants reservations well in advance so we'll work with you
on getting your sign-ups if you need to get them to be solid before our
usual activity sign-up opens, which will be around March 1. The way it's
set up now we could easily do an early sign-up for that activity only.
. . . . .
Now as for Rock Vault, the Tropicana site says it's dark on Thursday, so
if you want to pair it with Giada's, Sunday or Wednesday will be your
best bet for both of these.
. . . . .
For the Pinball Museum, about any morning or afternoon will work. We
will be going over the schedule next week so we can try to name a few
specific timeslots for it then.
