Our jobs for the near future:

The dates for our 2015 event are now in stone, or as close to stone as
we can get. Sunday, March 22 - Friday, March 27.

Most of our work within the immediate future is along the line of group
decisions that need to be made.

General strategy items are on the top of the stack, as well as a few
specific decisions.

One specific unfinished strategic item is that of name tags. See notes
below.

Another is hotels. As a reminder to those who wish to see anything done
regarding "Special Group Rates (tm)", nuisance fee waivers, or anything
else, please izzy-wizzy let's get busy! :) Our milestone for hotel
decisions comes up in November, roughly two months from now.

Speaking of overall schedule -- you may have noticed that March 22 is
the earliest start date in our history. It occurs roughly one week
sooner in the calendar year than our start date for DLV 2014, which was
then the earliest. This means that we have less time in which to plan
and several of our various milestones and checkpoints will need to be
moved earlier accordingly.

The gang here appears to be on the same page with regard to overall
evening strategy. There's a strong "don't fix it" preference for having
our two major gatherings on Monday and Friday evenings.

There's momentum toward making Wednesday kind of an all-day "anchor"
affair centered around the revamped EHM and the Kings Of Hustler with a
supporting mid-scale evening meal.

Overall, we are in good shape. In comparison with many of the other TG
events, we are in GREAT shape! We're clearly heading down a more or less
straight track to our 19th. annual event. We have no roadblocks of any
significance. Several other events, however, are struggling, as you may
have heard. Significant issues appear to be along the lines of internal
disagreements, bean counting (too many red beans and not enough black
beans), and overall declining attendance. We are clearly in agreement
that our model "ain't broke, don't need fixed", we don't have the
central pool of funds (and quite honestly, we probably would not be here
today if we had adopted that model) and our attendance level is stable.

Of all of the remaining national/international TG events out there, we
are clearly becoming one of the stronger ones! :) Thanks go out to all
who have helped to make this so! :)

Unfinished business - Name Tags:

Annie writes:

We need to circle back and finalize our strategy for name tags for the
2015 event before we get caught up in the programming aspects of our
event.

First of all, Vera and Dennis? Are you willing to continue with the
production of name tags for 2015, assuming we go with the "ain't broke,
don't fix it" strategy for name tags for 2015? Also, can you please
confirm that you still have the stash of tag holders? Thanks.

We had no conclusion or consensus on our name tag strategy.

The default path will most likely be the same name tag strategy as we
had for DLV 2013 and 2014, meaning pre-written tags, plastic holders,
one set of tag inserts, one name tag kit, and the distribution of tags
at "choke points", daily touch-base locations, and as many of the
midscale activities as can be covered.

One thing we can brainstorm on is encouraging the wearing of tags,
particularly as the event peaks. Let's open up the floor for discussion
along this line. Ideas? :)

EHM activities:

Sara writes:

I'm glad to see EHM is back up & running and more importantly, it seems
to be a very enthusiastic part of our 2015 schedule.

But for selfish reasons, I'm glad that it is pencilled in for Wednesday
as the PF Chang's dinner has historically been a great lead-in to EHM.
In the years this has happened, we have had 50-ish at the dinner. 2014
with no lead-in and competition from Doves, the numbers were down
significantly (high 20's IIRC).

Anyways, this talk has me looking forward to DLV 2015 already with of
course much to savor in the meantime (wonderful fall/winter/holiday
seasons are around the corner)!!!

The blurb about lunch with Dr. Victoria at the EHM kind of jumped out at
me.

The nite at EHM was an anchor event until last year when it was closed.

Possibly the EHM lunch could be combined with another EHM event that
nite? Then, lunch attendees could pay an entrance fee then and return
that nite on the same ticket? And, those that skip lunch can pay the fee
that evening if they attend the EHM nite as usual. Whoever wants to host
an EHM nite may want to research this?

Yes, Dr. Victoria is open to having another event at the new EHM in
addition to this Lunch With Dr. Victoria concept. This concept would be
similar to the Hustler night rooftop discussion where we had about 30
DLV'rs.

> What is the intended fare for lunch?

She mentioned some type of catering that she would provide. We are
invited to make selection suggestions. I'm thinking, keep-it-simple and
have sandwiches, salad or pizza delivered.

> not to partake, what is the intended price point?

I told her we need to discuss and recommend the cost for the event and
let her know what we decide.

She already said she would waive the EHM admission cost for this lunch
event. I hope this addressed the first round of questions and welcome
more.

Valorie writes:

Following last year's Fantasy Ball, my current idea is to do an
EHM-Hustler Club double header as an evening anchor activity.

We would tour the new museum then ride-en-masse (possible by limo) over
to the club for the after-party. Tentative schedule: EHM 7pm-9pm,
Hustler 9pm-2am. The only challenge is fitting in people's dinner plans.
I'm also open to bringing back the Fantasy Show at the Hustler as part
of the after-party if other girls still want to perform.

I like the idea of a Ask Dr. Vic lunch, just for a change. One comment I
got last year was that some people didn't feel like a low-key Q&A late
at night when all they wanted to do was go out and party. The
contrasting opinion, was that the consumption of alcohol at the Hustler
helped loosen up the discussion.

My 2-cents on the length. I think its a good idea to list Saturday day
on the schedule (even if it is listed as pre-DLV) to increase awareness,
however definitely keep the opening and closing activities on Monday and
Friday to maximize attendance.

Annie responds:

Thanks to all for taking the initiative with this! Please continue.

Most if not all of my concerns have been adequately covered.

It appears that this is moving in the direction of an all-day "anchor"
affair with specific parts. I would suggest a "divide and conquer"
approach for this, with Dionne taking the lead on the lunch portion,
Sara (no "h") taking the lead on the supporting dinner, and Valorie and
Sherry taking the lead on the evening portion of the program. (Am I
missing anyone here?)

One potential concern I have is the discussed "move" from EHM down to
KOH. Historically speaking, our mass moves most definitely result in
fall-out, meaning not everyone who leaves A ever arrives at B. Something
like a limo or party bus may help alleviate this, but I know that some
(many?) will prefer to take their own vehicles and balk at the prospect
of being stranded at KOH until the singular return trip occurs.

Another item which I think can help mitigate some fall-out is to be sure
that the entire evening is included on one admission. I know that an
additional cover charge for the second portion of the evening, no matter
how modest, will result in fall-out.

Anyway, this one is clearly on a roll and when we start seeding the
schedule next month we'll reserve the appropriate Wednesday timeslots.

Ear piercing:

Dionne writes:

I've read the ear piercing DLV discussion thread and want to mention I
got my ears pierced this week. I went to my Dermatologist to have both
of mine done. Yes, if I bought the earrings at certain shoppes, they
pierce for free. I went to my Dermatologist (paid $50) to get this done
right, not by some kid in the Mall. Self-piercing is tricky, so I didn't
want to try that.

The Gals at the Dermatologist office and Dr. Heidi were all thrilled to
help and encourage me. She was extra careful and related that she had
her ears done at age 8 but they were misaligned. The actual piercing was
like someone had tapped my lobe with their finger, not bad. My ear lobes
were slightly sore the next day but not an issue. They all use the same
piercing kit with surgical steel earrings/ backs, piercing tool and
cleansing solution. The earrings are 3 mm silver circular studs with no
design on them. These earrings need to be left in for 6 weeks and
cleaned, twice daily with antibacterial topical cleanser. Using Q-tip
swabs or cotton balls didn't seem to work well for me. I tilt the bottle
of cleanser and aim it at the earring stud. Then, I rotate the earring
by twisting the backs, wiping off the excess cleanser with a tissue.
When these come off, I want to wear big hoops when I go to Vegas. If I
take good care of my new pierced ears, I can wear these new hoops.

I went shopping for earrings to wear in guy mode. I found stainless
studs with a simple silver 4 mm ball. I also got a small double ring
with a simple twist in silver. The cost (on sale) for both pairs by Ann
Taylor was $5.

I also went to Michaels crafts store for earring tools and supplies. I
got jewellery tools (misc. pliers & tweezers) with a storage case for
$10. I found a pair of charms with my initial and made some D initial
earrings with purple glass beads along with the big hoops. All these
were 30% off last weekend.

For those DLV'rs who have met me already, you will know that this is
pushing my comfort zone. However, more guys wear them to College. I want
to be cool now that I started teaching this semester in the College
environment. I did this last week, before school starts and soon enough
to wear hoops in Vegas for Halloween.

I hope you are planning to meet up there for the last week in October.
You are all invited, just let me know so I can pass along the info. Best
wishes.
